  1. Someone on Instagram suggested embossing the cert number on the slab in more than one place including the inner well as one step they can take. I'm sure this isn't nearly a cure all and don't think there's a way of insulating 100% against a talented/determined fraudster. Maybe there's some way of stamping or coding the books themselves but I'd suspect that'd be out of the question for most.

If people had some ideas on how to full proof a slab against shenanigans or al least improve upon whats been done please share. Just seems like a more profitable way of spending time here instead of becoming fatalistic talking about the hobby getting nuked or repeatedly ragging on a company (while being on their chatboard no less 😕).

Yes the guy that was selling trimmed books in blue labels many many years ago. What did cgc eventually do about that besides banning?

I know CGC bought back a bunch of the books. There was a list published of the suspected affected books. But after a year or so, people moved on and stopped talking about it. I'm sure someone knows more than that but good luck finding that someone and getting them to talk.

    Rinse and repeat.

Not sure how much of this thread you've been able to get through, but one of the things that's emerged is that the "tamper-proof CGC holders" turn out to be pretty easy to open and reseal, with a substituted book inside.  It potentially implicates every CGC slab.

Yes I've gathered that thanks. There's no such thing as a tamper proof slab. Not every slab is impacted by this. My point stands.

Just stumbled upon this... sooo... Ewert scandal v2.0 huh? Show of hands, how many of you know what I'm talking about? I'm going to guess less than 25% of you. This too will go the same route.

On a related note. Kew Gardens and Arizona connected sellers? Comic scam. Anyone else smell Danny Dupecake here?

  5. Intuitively I'd think 101 102 104 106 and 124 would be the toughest. All of those are chronically miswraped in either direction or the marvel banner on top is crooked, the CCA stamp cropped, etc...etc..

Personally I decided the label is less important than the overall eye appeal/registration of the book especially in the bronze age. Marvel reached peak sloppiness in production trying to pump these out with no regard and or reckless abandon.

Buyer is most likely using a freight forward service (which will combine packages etc before shipping it to China). If you are comfortable with the buyer - then should be ok. Note that your responsibility ends when package delivered in Delaware (google address and make sure to use signature service is more than $750). What buyer does afterwards is his respon

Sure thanks. Just some hesitation from reading a few Ebay horror stories on here from seller experience. Example - seller receives return that ends up being something other than what was shipped out, etc.

    Appreciate the feedback.

I'd 1 call ebay, or chat with them to double and triple check

2nd isn't there a global shipping program with ebay? Where you ship to eBay center for over seas sales, and they take care of the rest? Global shipping program? I'd look into that, but

That said, other than those reassurances that ebay will have your back, I'd pass.

Yeah but global shipping wouldn't be involved. His shipping address is supposed to be Delaware which is known to be a tax haven. Just raises some red flags. Upon checking with Ebay everything looks good with him including the shipping address.

  8. Looking for some feedback on a situation I got here.

So I have this buyer seems really interested in a very high price slab I have on Ebay. Frequent messages about what my best offer is without making an offer despite replying that he could make one. They've only been on Ebay for bit over a year. Location is China but they claim their shipping address is in New Chastle Delaware which is known as a tax shelter. Looking at their feedback it looks great. Never sold anything but 100% as a buyer with wonderful glowing feedback from mostly comics and collectibles type sellers. Has 329 transactions with positive feedback. I'm inclined not to take seriously out of caution but what would you do?
