Tax question - capital gains tax on sale of collectible
shadroch replied to Brian48's topic in Comics General
You are Even Steven if you sold ten items, five for a profit and five for a loss. Hope for an investigator with a sense of humor. -

That is not true. Aren't all the books you mentioned part of the modern tier? -

Do signed Spider-Man #1 now get Yellow labels?
shadroch replied to JasonK221's topic in The Signature Room
They'll get some CGC approval, but I doubt they will be yellow labels. CGC would be foolish to try to merge authenticated books with witnessed books. -
Certified Collectibles Group to Acquire James Spence Authentication
shadroch replied to Ryan.'s topic in Comics General
Perhaps they will authenticate Roz's signature. I'd like one of those. -
With the only individual copy sold on eBay this year selling for $2.99, I'm going to assume this is a low-population book with little demand. Your copy, with a blank page, is not going to bring much of an increase. I'd keep it as a curiosity. If butch buckram or whomever suddenly becomes a break-out star, you are in the catbird seat.

How is JSA's reputation in the autograph industry? I know they are one of the larger but do they have a good rep? -

CBCS grading of a Deathmate Orange 9.8
shadroch replied to bandbsdad's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Kool and Da Gang. Now you have to find five buyers. Best of luck. -
Manufacturing errors are a small niche in the hobby, and the book is worth more to people who collect them. It's a novelty that might make good trade material. It's a fairly obscure Dave Stevens cover so the book is in demand. Those errors are rare, but not many people chase them.

Talking about collecting underground comics
shadroch replied to DRex33's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
I picked up a small, well-loved batch of Underground a few months ago. There are lots of cool titles, but most have coffee stains throughout the books. I didn't read many underground books in my youth. I didn't care for B&W, and many were 50-75 cents at a time when comics were a quarter. Eventually, I'd buy an occasional Raw or Neat Stuff, and I sold those in my shops, but I avoided underground books since I had many underage patrons.- 17 replies

This Week In Your Plastic Crack, Action Figures and Toy Collection
shadroch replied to Buzzetta's topic in Comics General
I have not identified the two large Indians, but they are incredibly detailed. Blue figure is most likely from a 1950s Fort Apache set. The other is known as a ring hand, as it's hands allow for interchangeable weapons. -

Recent finds, fresh from a vinegar bath. The three brown ones are six-inch Marx, circa late 1950s/early 1960s. The Yellow one is an unknown maker from the same era. These were sold individually, where the small figures came as part of a playset. Marx had playsets in the $5-$7 range, but offered a deluxe version of most. The smaller cowboys are mid-1950s Lido and the nazi is from a 1963 Marx Desert Fox playset. -
Pull up a chair. Let's you and I have a discussion...
shadroch replied to NoMan's topic in Comics General
Only those willing to risk going too far can determine how far they can go. Artists like Miller, Giffin, and Bill Sienkiewicz could have stuck to imitating Kirby and Starlin, but they struck out in their own direction. I don't like their new styles, but I appreciate how they evolved. Daredevil was forty-five years ago. I'm sure all of us are vastly different than we were in 1979. So is Miller. -

Batman, pre-Miller was dead. It was one of the lower-selling DC titles but Miller changed that. -

Trying to get better at grading
shadroch replied to Ron Funk's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Have you looked at the notes on the book? CGC grades the whole book. You are looking at the cover.
