The Official The Walking Dead Discussion Thread
BladeTX replied to MutantKeys's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
It looks like a never-before publicly seen (or sold as far as I can tell) TWD 1 9.9 has shown up in a ComicLink auction. This is officially Cert number 17 of 26 known 9.9 examples. Happy Bidding! https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dwalking%2Bdead%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1751804&id=1751804&itemType=0 -

Here we go! Another 9.9 has shown up on the radar in the ComicLink sale. This one was not previously documented so is officially 9.9 #17 (though I have partial numbers on an 18th). Get ready to break out your wallets. https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dwalking%2Bdead%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1751804&id=1751804&itemType=0 -

Bump. I haven't visited this in a while but it looks like there are now 23 on the census in 9.8U. Some lucky collector scored big! -

I was fortunate when I got back into collecting in 2017 I only did TWD for 5 years until 2022. That definitely helped me make major progress without being sidetracked. It also allowed me to jump on good deals like runs and multiple graded books when the opportunity presented itself. I put forward a pretty tough goal and I stuck to it. Now I just have to track down 5 books that don’t come around very often and the wait is painful. -

I’m a massive fan of 19. My favorite cover from the series. I thought about adding an Adlard sketch but I’m nervous something bad would happen. -

Super excited! Thanks for proposing the collaboration. 🔥 -
Someone found the old post and put a link here. Check it out.

You found it, but this is about the fire proofing. I guess it’s a fair point that any chemicals in a concentrated atmosphere could be damaging

I bought this one off the rack!

The chemicals that prevent fire protection leak through the bags and slabs. There is a gut wrenching post out there where a dude with a Hulk 181 9.8 had the staples completely rust and disintegrate in a couple of years. He had to have the book removed, he got staples from a trashed Hulk 181 and he got it regrade 9.8 green label. My high value books are at the bank as a result.

I’m looking to buy a TL-30 safe for my comics and other valuables. I’ve seen the treads about avoiding fireproof safes but this will be for burglary protection. I’m going to ask this anyway to get a group consensus even though I know the conservative answer is to keep them apart. I’m considering storing my firearms and comics together in the safe. My concern is that I shoot a lot and bore cleaner has one heck of an odor. It’s designed to break down carbon and other fouling and it works wonders. The smell alone could transfer to comics so I’m thinking I would have to seal up the books (all will be CGC graded. Is anyone storing guns and comics in a safe? Ideas to protect the comics?

What makes you think it was a younger person? Guessing by the item? I’m in my 50’s and this is the primary title I’m collecting. -

Just saw this on something bigger than a phone. 127 is cool too. Time skip after All Out War. First Magna, Yumiko, Luke, Kelly. All of these were at the peak so plenty out there but 127 and 132 will remain sought after. -

I wouldn’t be concerned with $2 a pop as long as 9.6-9.8. 132 is first Alpha, cool book to own. -

Well the TV run is over. Sort of. Actually not really. We had the final 8 episodes with one major death, Rosita. After the mass backlash over killing Carl, they didn’t kill almost anyone. I wish they would just stop all the spinoffs and reboot it all in 5 years. -

Might need some crafty detective work. I suggest hitting up some of the really big Walking Dead Facebook Groups (some have up to 60K members) for advice. Good luck! -
Anyone what to give an over/under when this will hit 500 pages? 😂
-
I was going to catch up on this topic because last I checked there were 13 pages in this post. Now there are 186 😲😂

These are so available that I recently bough a $40 SiKtC books and the guy gave me a 9.8-worthy 8th print for free. -
Ah I stand corrected. I don't pay any attention to Way too many stories of favoritism, overgrades, inconsistency for me to pay any attention to them. I would rather keep my books raw or maximize their value. It's not a permanent thing - I've seen the #2 grading service in other collectibles improve to compete with the top dog. It's just going to take a lot, including a more presentable product, for them to get there IMO.

Who else has QR codes that can instantly pull up grader notes? Imaging being in a comic shop. One click - boom - you know exactly why the book graded the way it did. Sounds pretty innovative to me.
