  1. I recently purchased some EC comics from an estate auction for the late lead singer of the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia. The auction, hosted by Bonhams, was covered extensively and the provenance of the items was not in question. Jerry Garcia was well known to have a collection of EC comics and had mentioned it in interviews and it was listed in his estate filing. All this to say, I trust that the comics are indeed from his estate and the provenance could be verified. I don't assume that they were all purchased by him off the rack in the 50's though, mostly a collection of books purchased over the years. All the comics are ungraded and I would like to have them graded but I'm wanting the fact that they're from his personal collection noted on the label. Any idea if that's possible and what the process would be like? I contacted CGC and they referred me to their pedigree requirements which amoung other things states that they must be from an original collection and in high grade. I know I've seen CGC graded comics with Nicolas Cage Collection noted on them so their must be some other criteria for a pedigree. Any thoughts or feedback is appreciated!
