  1. Hate it when my tracking information is not up to date.

The Four Color 21 from above was purchased from MCS  but when putting everything together ( starting with First Series )  I realized  that I had long ago traded for a much nicer graded 3.5   from A-1 comics just had not entered it  correctly.,  so  straight into the for sale/trade box

It looks like I am only missing 4 5 7  and 15   from the entire First series.

Over the last year or two I filed several holes including 6,12 18 as well as the 22 above  from the excellent inventory system of MCS

    Very cool thanks

i forgot flipside is actually still in business

And Cat from comic kon has had his own store for many many years now

mike frank collectors dream had a really good silver age key selection back in the day - haven’t been in a couple of years but he was setting up at the frank and sons mega warehouse throughout the 2010s

Man according to that article continental was established in 1977. It’s almost as old as I am. First time I walked in there was 1990

Wow is that an old article.  Almost 30 year.

Flipside, which was my main LCS  for new books until the pandemic,  sold out and closed over a year ago.

Collectors dream (den) was a store I traded with for years until his attitude caused him to lose his lease.  I did a long term trade and cash deal for an Xmen #1.  When I eventually submitted the book to CGC it came back an 8.5 RESTORED. By then the store had closed.  When I ran into Mike and mentioned the undisclosed restoration, his response was "You can't PROVE  that I sold you that book", and then rapidly walked away.  JUST A CROOK IMHO

My first LCS in the valley was passport and Earle Bowman.  Sadly both have passed on.

  3. Here is a book I had never seen before.   As an off shoot of Classics not only were Jr's included so were Fast Fiction  , Picture stories in the Bible, American history  etc.  Another variation was the picture news.  That is supposed to be a pre Queen version of ELizabeth  and came out prior to her fathers death.77 years ago

Found this one at the booth of a local guy I have been working with for many years.  He opened a shop in Santa Clarita called Cruzin thru comics.

TO make our deal balance  we greatly expanded it so I got a very nice Showcase  41 first Tommy TOmorrow.  As I was not much into TT, I did not think I had it, and even if I did this would be a nice upgrade.

I traded him two silver age DC war books and one of the slabbed books I brought

  4. After circling the rooms  looking  for FOur Colors  and Classics  I was at Lady T's booth and noticed a T-Man  with a Hitler cover.  I have about 1/2 of that series, and fortunatley  had  added the missing issues  onto my Mycomicshop want list.  I was quickly able to determine that I actually had  issue 34,  and that it was a reprint on #6.

I recircled the main room looking for the even more obscure T-Man.  Low and Behold  Bedrock had a nice looking copy  that also had the Hitler cover.  This one was the original #6  but  had several spots of restoration.  I was glad to be able to trade for it.

Moved around more to Harley and he also had an issue #37 ( last issue?) that was in nice grade but at a high price.  He looked at the books I was offering,  but could only find 1 book that he wanted and it was for less than a third of the cost of his book.  Was unable to make a deal for that one.

  5. Organizing the Missing Four Colors a bit better, prior to attempting to incorporate them into the main spreadsheet.

Here is my current list.  I have the bold ones, but do not have the orange highlighted ones.  Have about 30 missing about 15.  Most of what I have has come from MCS who has the best inventory system around

  6. Nice to see  our cousins from downunder

I recently etered  nearly 20 upgrades that came from either Gneerations or  eritage group auctions.

I was only able to increase my average grade from 4.816  to 4.858

Even though few if any of these books were over my goal of $50  I was able to increase my cost basis from 48.09  to 48.32  as many of these books replaced low grade copies that I only had invested $5  or less  many years earlier.

Here are a few of the upgrades

  7. there are so many parts to adding books to my collection.

I recently received 11 upgrades from generations

    For upgrades:

    I need to

Find the replacement candidate in my various boxes

    Compare the two books

Up bag the keeper into a mylite bag with Acid free backer

insert a comic extender or two if warranted.

    Scan back raw

    Scan front in new bag

    Down bag  the replaced book

Rename the front and back cover scans

Enter the books in my Thank You list

Update total thank yous for that list

Enter old book into my for sale list with  cosy and grade

Enter  the  keeper issue in my master spreadsheet  along with grade and cost

the spreadsheet  automaitcally calculates  average grade , and average investment  for each one hundred as well as for the entire series

preform a 3 step sort and replacement  to  produce  my consolidated want/upgrade list.

Actually physically  file the books into my two tier filing system ( the two short boxes  that are culled  for upgrades,  the three (soon to be 4 magazine boxes of slabbed books  or the main filing of 6 short boxes and three long boxes

Oh that reminds me,  for any CGC books I need to check them in with the registry

Thought of another step in the car .  ENter them onto the MyComicShop list of books to trade to them.  It is probably a good time to send that box off  as they have a few nice books  that I added to my order  just after buying out all of the low grade hole fillers

I wanted to attach scans  but for some reason I have been unable to upload any images  for most of the day.  Any ideas  why?

  8. I have been watching  and participaating in the Heritage auctions for Four Colors  actively  for a while.

Seems like 4GEMs  books  are posting less frequently,  but has been replaced with  listings  from DOugs  Dell collection.  It appears that some of Dougs  were actually  won on Heritage from Glen  a year or two earlier.

I received   my heritage wins   since the beginning of the year.  5 graded books  as well as two small lots.  Hope to really look through those  by the 4th

Here is one of the upgrades  I  got from ebay seller  Generations.  upon looking at this one compared to  my existing 2.5 copy from Terry I am not sure it is really  that much better  given the significant tape pull on the front cover.  Is this really  a 5.0?
