  1. I am glad I was not the only one who had that thought. I recently picked up a copy of Jackie Gleason #1
  2. This was the version I developed a few years ago when the HAVE list exceeded 1100 and the wants dropped into the hundreds I added the upgrade section later
  3. I will post more later but I want to improve my Four COlor Collection If you win my offering win I will spend the net proceeds on you Four Color books that help that process, say A number 1 either series I have a few auctions coming up on Heritage in the next few weeks. I have links in the ad section Books include Hulk 181 and Special Edition #1
  4. I have got a freshly graded 7.0 up for auction at heritage starting on Monday. There is also an 8.0 in that same event
  5. Now that I have grades and costs in the RAW data section of my Spreadsheet I figured it was time to start really working with the DATA. I built a Query sheet where all I have to do is enter an issue number and I can see if the book is missing, or if I have it what grade and price info I have for my copy.. It is setup to permit many multiple queries on the same page. Really a useful tool when looking to fill holes and upgrade issues in a very compact manner. I plan on transfering the Thank You data from the Word Documnet into this sheet and would like to add the Title for each issue. as an aid. I was wondering if anyone here has list of titles in some kind of word doc, or spreadsheet the I can cut into mine?
  6. While for many here these are not big books they certainly were for me My 4 better consigned books were delayed to the March 5-8 Signature Auction. All scans are available, and the bidding actually opened a few days ago. Special Edition 1 CGC 6.5 https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/special-edition-comics-1-fawcett-publications-1940-cgc-fn-65-cream-to-off-white-pages-this-is-the-first-book-devoted-entirely-to/p/7224-47001.s? Seven Seas 1 Big Apple CGC 8.5 https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/adventure/seven-seas-comics-1-big-apple-pedigree-universal-phoenix-feature-1946-cgc-vf-85-off-white-pages-south-seas-girl-captain/p/7224-47003.s? New Book of Comics 2 CGC 5.5 https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/humor/new-book-of-comics-2-dc-1938-cgc-fn-55-off-white-pages-last-issue-of-the-title-contains-dr-occult-a-superman-prototype-/p/7224-47002.s? Uncle Sam Quarterly 1 CGC 7.5 https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/uncle-sam-quarterly-1-quality-1941-cgc-vf-75-off-white-to-white-pages-origin-of-uncle-sam-will-eisner-story-eisner-and-lou-fine/p/7224-47004.s? These books have not been up for sale for nearly 20 years, and were part of one of my last major comic investments. Also hitting the blocks in the NEXT Sunday-Monday Weekly (FEB 17-24) auction are two of my better Silver/Bronze books that are recently back for grading. Hulk 181 7.0 and Aquaman 29 8.0 https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/the-incredible-hulk-181-marvel-1974-cgc-fn-vf-70-white-pages/p/122008-101001.s? Besides my 7.0 there is also an 8.0 in the same auction. Hope mine comes after the higher grade one. https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/aquaman-29-dc-1966-cgc-vf-80-off-white-to-white-pages/p/122008-101002.s? That still leaves 2 other recently slabbed books (Cap 100 and Aquaman 11) to be scheduled. As I mentioned previously if you win one or more of my auctions I will use the net proceeds to buy missing or upgrade FOUR COLOR issues for my collection. I am currently missing just over 100 issues and want to upgrade at least another 200 issues. For example if you win the Hulk 181 with a hammer of $2,000, you will pay $2,400 with BP and I will net $1,800 after SP. That will leave me with $1,800 to spend on your NICE, but often hard to move Four Colors. Net result, for $600 and a pile of Four Colors you can have a nice Hulk 181. Call it a QUID-PRO-QUO if you will, but more like a perfect transaction to me. Feel free to pm me with questions Jim Greenspan ( jmg3637)
  7. Several of my consignments are listed in the March signature auction including a Special Edition 1 that i have held for over 15 years
  8. and this list is for the books I am looking to upgrade. 9. not going to the REAL show this time Just the swamp meet the Below is the current list of the issues I am missing Comics Want list--FOUR COLORS FIRST SECOND SERIES 1 1 319 704 1102 4 2 332 730 1122 5 7 337 733 1124 6 8 344 740 1135 7 9 359 754 1154 9 13 361 765 1164 12 14 405 776 1175 15 18 428 796 1181 18 22 435 799 1204 22 26 444 827 1215 28 455 834 1221 31 469 835 1222 37 474 840 1241 41 485 867 1262 63 494 868 1266 73 502 872 1272 74 503 876 1284 94 526 879 1296 110 529 916 1297 139 553 917 1298 172 561 922 1309 204 564 931 1335 206 575 932 211 593 938 224 594 940 235 597 963 259 673 974 265 983 294 1019 1065 1097
  10. I have gainer an appreciation for them since beginning my Four Color Collection. I have never taken the time to think about it much less count, but there are certainly Hundreds published over the 25 year span of the Four Color Series Does Zorro count as a Western?
  11. I think I snagged the last table for the swap meet. I am looking for FOUR COLORS via trade. I will post the list of the 100+ that I still need as well as the 200+ that I am looking for upgrades to say F or above Will be bringing mid grade Marvel and DC's primarily Silver age. Also random slabs and excess Four Color inventory Was it like 6 short boxes on a table? and will I have space behind to bring a small display board?
  12. I have been working on refining my tracking system to include as much information as possible In the last month I have quick graded all of my collection and entered that data in a new section of my tracking sheet. I have also added another new section for value at time of trade (i.e.cost basis)where that information was available With the 1/2 dozen books on the way I am now down to just 109 issues missing and just over 200 that are in serious need of an upgrade I am now only one book (673) away from completing all of the 600's my first completed column Here are some of the First series issues, no idea when I posted them last. I am sure that many of them are on the "to be Upgraded" list, just not likely to happen for a long time
  13. The scans are up for the 4 Golden Age books I first mentioned in this thread. Well for 3 of the 4 anyway. New Book still shows the placeholder of the GL junkie issue For some reason they got bumped into the March 5-7 Signature Auction, but the links still work Books are : Special Edition 1 CGC 6.5 New Book of Comics 2 CGC 5.5 Seven Seas 1 (Big Apple) CGC 8.5 Uncle Sam Quarterly 1 CGC 7.5 All of these are old slabs. Who knows what they could CPR into Thanks for looking , and especially to those who bid
  14. Unfortunately my diabetes has progressed to the point that I have had Diabetic Nephropathy for nearly three years In addition to attempting much better control of my A1c, I have also had to treat the symptoms with periodic Shots in the Eye. Over 2 dozen so far including yesterday. To add insult to injury that is the same eye that I had a cataract in a few years earler I know that there were several covers with this image, so please post them here. Was not sure that this was a Silver or Golden Age but I assumed that EC would have had something like this in the pre code era I would love to look them over and decide which I might want to add to my collection and display in my office ( for point of discussion)
  15. Another of the earliest one shots was I Met a Handsome Cowboy, but I dont have a scan handy Here is the last slab from the recent transaction with MCS. Guess the cost of working with them just went up as I saw they not charge Sales Tax for most of the country
  16. I realize that now Heritage's BP is 20%($19 min) but I noticed that back in the day it was 19.5% or only $9 min. When was back in the day? that increase must have hurt the sellers and discouraged lots under a hoped for yield of $100
  17. While I have almost half of the First Series, that is one that I have not filled in yet. nice to see it As I am going through my collection for the umpteenth time I noticed the Jacky's Diary and was thinking that I had not seen a followup. Since this was usually a tryout series I was wondering what other attempts never got a second shot prior to the series demise? So we have the movie issues as well as some of the later issues like the other two below. Any other come to mind?
  18. I agree that dells were very common back in the day.. When I was playing at being a dealer 35 years ago many of the collections I bought had them so I accumulated quite a few but most were low grade. They rarely sold at shows so I usually did not even take them. When I switched to a four color collector 15 years ago I started off with like 75 from this stock. I am now finding many of those seed books are among the 300 that I started trying to upgrade a while back Long way of saying that I have upgraded a Duck book so something to post here. That also means that my undercopy is available for its next home
  19. Any spots left? This might be a good way to offer up my mid to high level books
  20. And another graded book from MCS. This one was a nice upgrade from the one I got previously from World's Best Comics. As I recall that was from SDCC many many years ago Oh course that means my old copy is available
  21. Another nice addition to my Four Color Trading Quest from MCS Unfortunately I have not figured out a good way to scan slabbed books with my Epson all-in-one NX420
  22. here is another of the graded books that recently came from MCS
  23. I still have a "free" account with them, but since I have like 4000 images stored on it I basically have no access to anything. I have been in contact with them to find out if there was a paid account where I could do some kind of mass download to rescue my books but was told NO
  24. And another of the graded books that I got from MCS. Most of the graded books that they get in are consignment and and not eligible for credit. Not to mention the 3% bump and they are not eliogible for the peridoic sales
  25. I recently consigned my first selection with Heritage. The raw books went in the first weekly selection a few weeks ago My individual lots did fairly well, but they grouped the lessor books in fairly large lot of 30-50 books and those did horribly 34 Silver First series Aquaman with an estimated OSV of 800 sold for 252 including the 20% Buyers premium 41 Captain America's below 200 with an OSV of 350 sold for $126 At least the 12 Hulks with an OSV of 225 closed at 228 Is there a better place to try and sell runs of Silver/bronze books
