  1. I have been watching and participaating in the Heritage auctions for Four Colors actively for a while. Seems like 4GEMs books are posting less frequently, but has been replaced with listings from DOugs Dell collection. It appears that some of Dougs were actually won on Heritage from Glen a year or two earlier. I received my heritage wins since the beginning of the year. 5 graded books as well as two small lots. Hope to really look through those by the 4th Here is one of the upgrades I got from ebay seller Generations. upon looking at this one compared to my existing 2.5 copy from Terry I am not sure it is really that much better given the significant tape pull on the front cover. Is this really a 5.0?
  2. Will there be a place to drop off comics for off site grading
  3. I have two from the 1994 warehouse find. Coincidently I just dropped one off for a grading. Could be a9:8
  4. I agree, this had to be someone who was aware of the collection, and likely also aware of when Frank would be not be around. If these are the same small gray acid free boxes that I use ( from Bill cole around 30 years ago) they only hold less than 100 books each. Given 1200 four colors and hundreds of other books mentioned we are looking at 20+ of these boxes and even with a dolly it would take several trips to transport and load all of these books into a vehicle. AS an avid Four Color Collector I agree that most of these books are not high dollar, unless very high grade and\or slabbed. If I lost my collection I would not have the heart to begin again after collecting these almost exclusively for the last 15 years. So sorry for your loss, and hoping that the community helps find the scum who took them from you
  5. got in one of my biggest shipments in from MCS on Friday. I think these complete the Little Orphan Annie appearances.
  6. Nice OLD book. I had my first copy sitting out in my office for quite a while. Now I have my slabbed copy of Pirate Gold on display. I am sending off my undercopy of #17 to MCS in my next lot. . Even though it is a bit lower than yours, it should reach the consigment value I am also including in the MCS box are some Promotional Harvey comics such as American Airlines and Weather Bird SHoes. Won a bunch of stuff like that off ebay from our owm Blissard. They were advertised as files copies, and they are beautiful. Wonder how the MCS graders will view them?
  7. was very happy to fill this hole. From a fairly recent transaction with MCS I think this completes the entire run of Little Lulu's I even have two that I have upgraded and I will be sending off to trade with MCS for some new additions soon
  8. I have that Nellie on my upgrade list as my copy is only a 3.0 So, upon reviewing further I found that with getting 1335 Aggie Mack I have actually completed all of the "Standard" Four Colors in the 1300 range. There are not many of the potential 54 that are actually in the real Four Color system instead of the "missing Four Color". In the spreadsheet I had active space sfor 1329 and 1334. I knew 1329 was really a missing, but had not realized that the name filling in 1334 was repeated form a few issues earlier . I also only need 673, 740 and 835 to complete each of those 100's and have a string of over 300 in a row.
  9. I have a copy , or maybe still two, of the Your United States mentioned as a :good Comic" SO after adding 23 FOur Colors I am I am down to only 42 left. Of those 6 are first series and another 6 are among the first 50 issues in second series. That is followed by my best streak of completed between 42 and 203. I was surprised that with so many additions and how few are left that I did not finish any other 100 columns I will do a deeper dive into the stats over the weekend
  10. I just pulled the trigger on a large purchaase from MCS. I won a First Series # 12 Little Orphan Annie . Now down to only 6 missing in the First Series. They issued a store wide 10-20% discount that is running now but for only maybe a few more days. If you are not a member sign up through the link below I will get a credit and will send you comics as a thank you. SOmebody did this last year and I got a $$ credit, but they forgot to tell me so I cannot respond. I do think they have the best collector website in the business. Is there anybody even close? Anyway this discount prompted me to add most of the items in my basket to the order and have a total of 28 books coming. 3 of my missing Classics , 5 Missing Four Colors and 20 Actual Four COlors that I was missing. I went against my principles as only 5 of htese books will be EITHER 4.0 or above or cost over $25. and 15 of the 20 will move from missing section right to the UPgradable section. In the process I will decrease both my average cost and average grade. Once these arrive I will be down to about 40 holes in both runs combined
  11. Last weeks Riverdale was loaded with comic books, Really this entire Final year/retroboot is loaded with them. From what I can tell all of the characters have a comicbook eel to their images. Just look at Archies skin and hair
  12. Drawer boxes is the way to go. you can have access to all of the books even in a stack 6 high of boxes. The magazine size fit slabs very nicely
  13. I was/am A claccis illustrated collector before beginning on the four colors. As I neared completion of the much easier any HRN copy i switched to the four colors. Picked up another 3 on my list fro. The ebay seller Generations. Very nice copies at reasonable prices. Earliest copy was a 529 little beaver from 1954 Got me wondering where the character originated. I know that Robert Blake played him in some kind of shorts after his days in the little rascals
  14. I was actually reading/collecting from about 1965 through 1969. Mostly DC. Gave it up for about 15 years until Crisis drew me back into reading. and that quickly grew into buying collections to "fill in" the gaps. Stopped reading and buying new issues with the onset of the pandemic
  15. I restarted collecting in about 1985. While I am closing in on retirement, HOPEFULLY I AM NOWHERE near dying. Also I tried to get my daughters interested in the hobby. One of them enjoyed reading Archie and Mad, but neither of them are interested in the work it would require to slowly sell off my collection
  16. So the Adventure 247 ( my original grail) sold for only 2100 or relisting. quite a hit from the previous 3,000> At least it was my undercopy This is a link to the remaining book that failed to be paid for. Still wondering what kind of penalty applies to the bidder who fails to pay. I asked my reps but have not gotten an answer. You can view and bid on my entire consignment in auction #7339 at the following link: https://www.ha.com/c/search.zx?saleNo=7339&collection=121&type=friend-consignorlive-notice&FC=0 If the link does not work it is the freshly graded version of the All Flash 2 pictured above. Closes in 5 days and is currently at 525 . Dont actually remember what it closed for originally
  17. I am looking forward to this show. In past years this was the best show in the Los Angeles area. I had no problem with the Paladium. Plenty of parking in a secure lot right at the event. I did not like the earlier venue down by LAX. Felt like a dungeon Hope more information is posted soon
  18. New HP All-in-one replacement has the same problem the other one had. It will not maintain a direct connection to the primary home PC to send scans to It is at least bow working where the PC can access and order the scan. A couple of added benefits of this method are that the settings are all saved. JPG, with a time/datestamp and the ability to save multiple images
  19. I am sure I have some extra hawk an, but likely not high grade as they are my under copies. Dont forget the Atom/hawkman issue at the end of the Atom run
  20. Since I posted last I have had and recovered from COVID We have also recarpeted about 1/3rd of the house. So that means I am finally able to build out another Walk-in Comic closet in the bedroom where my youngest daughter ( 28) lived until a year and a half ago. I was able to convince HP to replace the awful printer I had purchased from them as it kept loosing connection almost every time I went to use it. Got the new one installed and my PC computer moved upstairs as well ( My wife got a Apple so we no longer have to share.) These scans are the first with the new setup. Worked very easy. Most of these books are from the 4GEM collection being auctioned off at Heritage on a Weekly basis
  21. Two of my 13 listings did not get paid for. The Adventure 247 had closed at $3,000. When I checked yesterday it was under $700 with 2 days to go So now is your chance to get an affordable GRAIL
  22. This book is BACK up for Auction at heritage. For some reason the winning bidder s on two of my lots failed to pay. Hard to believe this thread has had NO action in over 3 months LONG LIVE LEGION!
  23. based on the way MCS listed this one (#208 as in August of '62) I thought it might have been a missing Four Color and added it to my want list along with dozens of other Missing Four Colors years ago Turns out it was actually a spun off series which was listed as Jonny Jason Teen Reporter #2 inside. Bht a fun book to look at. How many issues did the series run anyway?
  24. Finally got a chance to start scanning the additions from MCS. Mostly the Missing Four COlors Not sure why, but having trouble uploading newly scanned jpegs Well actually the entire post did not work. Looks like it is working correctly now
