  1. Here is my Spawn 9. I know you're supposed to refrain from saying what you think the grade is, but my problem is that I have several mid 90s comics like this (X-Force 1 and 11, Spawn 1, X-O Manowar 3, Rai 0, etc) that I am considering submitting because it would be worth it only if they are 9.8s. I am still new to grading and don't really understand how hard it is to get a 9.8. It seems to me like almost all brand new books would seemingly automatically be a 9.8. The aforementioned books to me all appear to be almost perfect and how they were when I purchased them. I know a 9.8 can have 1 small and even sometimes 2 defects. All my books look pretty much like this, so I am trying to learn reasons why this (and my other books) might not be a 9.8. As to this Spawn 9, the only flaw in the entire book that I can see is that the corners has some minor rounding instead of being perfectly sharp, and in picture 4, you can see some minor wear on the corner in the bottom left. Thanks for all critiques!
  2. That blue mark won't affect the grade at all. It's how it was printed.
  3. Yeah, I was going through comicspriceguide.com the last several weeks and inventorying my old collection when I just happened to notice there were two versions and looked at mine. I have no idea how I ended up with it since I never lived in one of the test cities, but out of my entire 1000+ collection from when I was a kid, including my ASM 238, 300, 361, this of all things is potentially my most valuable.
  4. Census only shows one 9.6 ever graded and 27 total. I should have specified in the title but this is the 35 cent variant. Estimated distribution is under 1000 copies.
  5. Thanks all. Looks like it is indeed a tear. Seller wants $645 for this and a pretty nice copy of ASM 121, but I'm thinking if this is a 6.5 that is too much for both books. You guys saved me from making my second possibly big ASM mistake this week!
  6. I'm looking at buying this copy of ASM 33 and was wondering how much a stamp like the one shown at the top of the back cover might affect the grade? I know this isn't PGM but the book looks like it is in pretty good condition. Does it appear it could be at least a 7.0 even with this stamp?
  7. I would be ecstatic to have an 8.0. Do you feel it would benefit from a press?
  8. Linking the images due to larger file sizes As shown in the 5th image, almost every page has a series of 3 holes at the bottom, however they appear to be a printing defect and not caused by anything afterwards. Not sure if that affects the grade. Almost positive I'm going to have pressed as well (unless anyone here thinks it doesn't need it). Thanks so much for your opinions. I am definitely submitting for grading so I will follow up with the results.
  9. So if the overhang isn't a defect after the book was printed, why can't CGC grade these?
  10. This caused a ton of confusion for me when I first submitted. I used the raw value and had no problems. It makes sense, since you don't know what cgc grade you're going to get. I used the modern tier for all of my books even though I had ASM 300, which would have come back over 200 after grading. If all your books are after 1975 you can use the modern tier for all.
  11. Isn't discussion what you do on a discussion forum?
  12. How does that work if CGC isn't there? I thought SS had to be graded immediately after they were witnessed?
  13. Hijacking to ask if CGC will be there? I have a bunch of books I was planning to ship to them next week but would be great if I could get them graded this weekend without dealing with shipping and insurance. I'm not very familiar with CGC at conventions. I don't see any mention on Soda City's web site ab out them.
  14. It's pretty interesting to read through this thread from the start and see all the comments from the beginning saying the market would be flooded with 9.8s in a year and when the movie becomes official, but then seeing only 80 9.8s graded in the last 14 months.
  15. I just noticed in my online submission form that one of the entries is incorrect. I submitted a 1988 GI Joe 21 published by Marvel, but the submission says it is a 2017 GI Joe 21 published by IDW. Do I need to contact them and let them know I entered the wrong info or will they figure it out?
  16. Thank you again! I have just one more question, and then I'm going to submit. I want to include a 1971 comic. Since it's not eligible for modern, is the only difference (other than turnaround) between sending it standard or economy how much I want it insured for? It would only be worth maybe a max of $500.
  17. Thank you very much for the quick response. So I assume on the submission form I just list the max value of $200 next to each comic for "Declared Value?" Looks like that gives me a total of $180 for grading on six books. Does that sound right? And should I use Domestic US Registered Mail or do you guys recommend Fedex/UPS? I don't want them to come back all bent up.
  18. I apologize if this is covered somewhere else, but I can't find at all in a Google search for figure it out from the site. I have some modern age comics I want to submit. Nothing crazy, things like Wolverine #1, Amazing Spider-Man #300, My books might be worth as low as $100 ungraded, or up to $800 (at the very top level) once graded and if sold on ebay. I can't figure out what tier to submit them under. Can I submit them all using the Modern tier? Someone told me that Max Value ($200) is pretty much just for insurance purposes, and I can use that if I am okay if I only receive $200 if the book is damaged? Based on ebay auctions, there is a possibility that the books could sell for over $400. So does that mean I need to use the much higher priced Standard Tier? I guess what I am asking, is what determines value and which tier I am required to use. Thanks for any help.
