  1. Do I need to tape off the book if I don't care where the creator signs? I'm getting Buffy #1 signed and I don't know enough about SS to know where a good place to sign is, so I figured maybe leave that to the signer?
  2. If you plan on leaving it to your son, leave it to him unrestored and let him make the decision on whether he wants to remove the pen or not. I would be resentful if my dad left me a comic in 40 or 50 years that might be worth a ton of money, but he devalued it by restoring it so it would look better to him.
  3. You can submit it to CGC for a reholder, although if you have one of the Stan Lee labels with his image on it, FYI they no longer have the license to offer those. You will receive back a standard SS label in its place.
  4. The regular grading rules still apply. That book might be a 5.5 even if they couldn't tell it had restoration. It could have hitler mustaches drawn on everyone on the side pages that dropped it down 4 points. Do you have the grader notes?
  5. This is what I was saying. The grade is a restored 6.0, meaning that the restoration has brought the grade up to what would be a Universal 6.0, but they are flagging it as restored. Without the restoration, the book would be a lower universale grade. If I have any of that incorrect please let me know.
  6. 6.0 because of the restoration, meaning that if CGC couldn't tell the book was restored, it would be a 6.0 book. The restoration doesn't negatively affect the grade, just the label.
  7. You're right. They should have invoiced you the additional $300 and then subtracted the $30 for your insurance and covered it for the full amount. Then you would be out $270 instead of $30 but at least CGC would be following their policies.
  8. But it also could have been avoided if you had valued it correctly to begin with and paid the additional $300. Then they'd likely have offered to insure it the full 20.
  9. What a beautiful cover. Artgerm + Peter David please. Is there an option to also have Greg Land sign? No worries if not. Thanks!
  10. Know how much he disliked signing things, that seems like a real pain in the on his part to have to call CBCS to authenticate someone's books. If you plan on keeping most of them in the family and only need to authenticate a few, then I would just put them on ebay and explain the connection. People buy fake stan lee sigs on ebay all the time. They'll certainly buy your ditko sigs without third party authentication.
  11. Thanks. Based on the replies, I'm going to hold onto it and might sell my original issue 300 6.5 newsstand edition and see what I can get for it. I hate selling it since that's the copy I bought at the store. It's too bad it's not in better condition.
  12. That's true. Kind of a dumb thing for me to be annoyed about because of that. I've just grown to have a negative association with green labels, as irrational as that may be in this case. I appreciate your insight into it.
  13. What you brought up is interesting. I like that policy because I don't necessarily trust an artist to authenticate their own sig. Can you imagine Stan Lee doing this? I know if you pay the same fee for them to authenticate as sign it doesn't seem like there is any benefit, but you could always have a case where a book has a forged (but realistic) sig, you then get it SSed by another artist, and then decide to take it back to the fake sig artist and have them authenticate it to remove the green label. I was trying to figure out if CGC had any type of consideration on a book where you can guarantee the signature is authentic because 100% of the books were signed. I have this brand new book just as it came from the publisher and there is zero way for me to obtain a universal label on it.
  14. I didn't even think there was anything wrong with doing that. I figured it was just a way to get around a technicality in order to get a Universal label on a book that ordinarily would always be a Qualified label since it has a non-witnessed signature. The purpose of that would purely be to avoid the inherent stigma of the qualified label rather than trying any act of deception. I know if the artist signed in a different place it would still be qualified because it has a second unwitnessed signature, but I thought maybe by signing directly over the original, it would "cancel it out" and CGC wouldn't have an issue with it since you're not trying to pass off a second unauthenticated signature. I realize now I asked my original question incorrectly. I should have asked if CGC would give a Universal label on the variant rather than a qualified, since they know the sig is legit. I realize now though that this is just too rare of a circumstance for it to be practical for them to have an exception for. Regarding this variant, yes, it was limited to 100 issues and every one was signed by Dan, except for one which was signed by Joss Whedon. I would like my copy slabbed but I just don't want a green label, even though anyone who buys it has a guarantee that the Dan signature is legit. The person who tries to sell the Dan + Joss copy though can only guarantee the Dan signature
  15. I purchased this book off eBay as "NM." I guess that could be any condition from 9.4 - 9.8, but I was hoping it was 9.8. After receiving it, I noticed there are a couple long scratches on the back. They are in the ebay pics, but those pics weren't high resolution and I thought it was part of the art when I saw it. The main scratch runs from the middle right down to the "Y" in "Buffy" and then there's another one about 4 inches in length right above it. How much would this affect grade? It's not really worth it to me to submit if the book isn't a 9.8, but if the book is at least a 9.4 I feel like I can't request a return as the book was advertised as "NM." I hate when people request returns so I don't want to be a jerk to the seller. Thanks.
  16. I have a comic in 7.0 with below notes. I think when I was a kid I used to practice drawing by tracing over my comics. would a press possibly take out the indentation causes by tracing lines? I can't see the tracing lines now that the book is in the slab, but I'm assuming they are noticeable when the cover is viewed through a light. Thanks for any help. Grader Notes: bend right bottom of back cover multiple dent spine stress lines tracing front cover
  17. How do you know Batman's genitalia was put in there by the artist to sell books and not just an artistic decision he made? It wasn't a DC marketing decision since they recalled it (unless you're under the impression that was their plan all along).
  18. I have an ASM direct 9.6. Given that this is the most graded comic in the CGC census and there are likely still 100,000+ issues out there, from a purely speculative standpoint, should I sell it on ebay for around $775, and use that money to buy SAGA 1 and Into the Spider-Verse #2 CGC 9.8? or spend another $150 and get Invincible #1 CGC 9.8? I can't imagine ASM 300 holding its value over the long term.
  19. It's the vague outline of a <edit, apparently the "p" word is filtered>. It's one panel. It's not gratuitous and not a central part of the story. Does it really bother you that much?
  20. I don't hate the first twenty years of the modern age, but this is the main reason I hate things now. I hate the stupid renumbering of the comics. I get why they do it from a business standpoint, but it is so confusing to me as a collector when Spider man jumps to a numbering system every year.
  21. Then maybe you should have mentioned that in your original post? People are trying to be helpful in your absence of information.
  22. He listed it for sale here in September and it still had the old label.
  23. Oh yeah, I don't know what I'm thinking. It wouldn't have a yellow label at all and all issues would be graded as green. I wonder what they would grade it as if I submitted it at a con to be witnessed, and had Dan sign over his previous signature. I'm not actually going to do that, but it's an interesting thought.
  24. I have a Buffy #1 variant signed by Dan Panosian. The variant was limited to 100 issues and all were signed by Dan. If I submit to CGC would they still slab it as a qualified? Or is there any chance that it comes back unqualified since the nature of the variant is that it is signed. I'm assuming there is no way it could come back SS since not actually witnessed, but I really don't want that green yellow label.
  25. I think I mixed up your post with another one about AF15, or maybe was confused by faster's reply because I just noticed my reply makes little sense, since you're asking about it being trimmed and not whether you should have it restored. Sorry for any confusion.
