  1. Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. Got an email from someone at CGC. They said that the grade would not be changed, but they did offer me a decent credit. Whether it was graded wrong to begin with, or the crease happened during the signing, they took responsibility (After it was pointed out though) for the mishap and took steps to satisfy. I'm greatly appreciative. NOW I find myself having to take steps to correct another issue: I sent in a 1st print MGN #5 for the Chris Claremont signing. The book is currently at the "Scheduled for Grading" stage (still...although I got back my 11 other Claremont books weeks ago?) when I noticed that it says "Marvel Comics Fifth Printing" on the submission page. This is DEF not a 5th print as there is no printing listed on the title page, and there is no ISBN on the back cover (A sure sign of a later printing of this issue). Oofa.
  2. It was not pressed the 1st time. It was pressed when I sent it back for SS; I have books that look way worse than this at a 7.5. That said, I'm not screaming about it. I trust CGC's judgment 99% of the time. They'll get it back this week and if it it remains a 7.5, so be it. That crease, IF its a legitimate crease, is WAY blown up. Its small. I just don't think that alone should put it at a 7.5. But I could be wrong. I'll keep everyone posted when the regrade is finalized. Thanks for all you input:)
  3. Like I said, those are dog hairs, BUT while inspecting them, I found the 'crease' mentioned in the grader notes, and it's NOT a crease. It's a 'print ink crease' in the ink, not on the book itself. You can tell because it doesn't run the length of the book into the white areas where there is no ink. And even if it was, 7.5 for that ONLY? Still some BS. It's boxed up and going in the mail on Monday. We'll see what they say. Hopefully it doesn't come back as a 5.5 now.
  4. Those are actually dog hairs on the case. I've got a mostly white bluetick hound dog. I set the book on the bed after I opened it so it picked up some doggy shrapnel:)
  5. Notes say that there is a 'crease that breaks color on left of back cover' ; that's it. I've looked at this thing under a microscope. I was like Costner looking at the Zapruder film in JFK. "Back and to the left, back and to the left." There is NO crease on this comic. What I'm thinking is that he graded two of the exact same book (Twins, if you will, for the purpose of the upcoming metaphor) and mixed up the grades. I got the Danny DeVito grade on a near perfect book, and some guy with a looking book got the Arnold Schwarzenegger grade:)
  6. Hi everyone; 1st, thank you for any thoughts or suggestions. I sent in Amazing Spider-Man Annual 15 back in April; grading only. I'm kinda a Punisher nut. Came back as a 9.6 / White pages. Then (of course) CGC announced the Frank Miller signing; I sent it back in to be signed by Miller and figured I'd get it pressed and maybe squeeze a 9.8 out of it. I know that doesn't always happen, but why not, right? It came up as finalized on the CGC site...7.5 / Off-White pages. WTF? I've heard of that happening, but I've never seen it up close. I tried calling before they shipped it back, but CGC does this amazing thing where they wait until they close to show that your book has been finalized so there's f-all you can do about it. Called the next day got and the "too bad - it happens. We get these calls all the time. Send it back in for a re-grade at your cost, we won't charge you for shipping if we were wrong." Great, now I'm paying for a 3rd grade on, what is now a book valued at $15 dollars. I figured that unless Frank Miller rolled up my comic and used it to swat flies, this is some major BS. I mean, that's a pretty big disparity from from a 9.6 White to a 7.5 Off-White in 3 months. I've sent in a LOT of books, and have never once questioned a grade. Anyway, got it back today and it looks EXACTLY the same as when I sent it. Nothing wrong with it. If fact, it looks flatter from the pressing. So my question is, how do you get someone to seriously call an audible when there are 2 disparaging grades on one book? I was told to write a note on my submission form for the receiver, but from what I understand, graders are in a bubble. They don't know if a book was pressed so I would imagine they don't know when a grade is being disputed. And at what point does CGC stop being a fat New Yorker cartoon character with a handle-bar mustache wearing a sash that says "CGC", with their hand reaching into my back pocket as I bend over to pick up a graded comic? I mean, sheesh already. And I get it, I get it, I get it; I'm CHOOSING to send my stuff in, they're not forcing me. I'm just frustrated. I mean Miller was $150.00 bucks with the pressing for crying out loud. I'm not trying to go to another grader because frankly, CGC is the only game in town as far as I'm concerned. I know they get a LOT of disputes; I get it. I worked in retail and there are WAY to many people with nothing but time to complain, but there's got to be a way for them to legitimize claims, even it's it's doing a cursory look online. So, I'm going to send it back, fast track so they've got that $12 bucks out of me. Please take a look at the pics below and tell me if I'm the insane one here. I HAVE legitimate 7.5 books, and THAT is not a 7.5 book. I apologize for the lighting, those are not stains on the back cover, those are shadows (and a hair; caught it after I took the pic.) Thanks again!
  7. Ok, I'm going to be quick because I have to get to work. For all the people looking for a work around to the CGC SS, I have a little story for you. I used to work at a comic shop called Heroland, in Worth, IL., back in the early 90's. I was 15. The owner, Lee Tennent (of Lee Tennent Enterprises, or LTE) was a huge POS who would rip off any one he could, steal from his employees, beat his wife in the back room and manipulate children into working for him for free. Lee would hire artists and fly them out to his store to do signatures for his customers. He would set up an agreement with them to sign a certain number of books at a certain dollar amount per book. When they got there, they would do the signing and then Lee would significantly lower the amount of books he wanted signed for the store, from 500 to 50 typically. He would then cut them a check for a WAY lower price than previously agreed to. If they made a fuss, he'd agree to the original deal, and then stop payment on the check after they left. After they left, he'd take his throng of young kids, me included, to his warehouse and have us practice forging the artist signature 100 times. Then we'd sign 5000 books and he'd slap a BS 'COA' on them. These books are still out there, on ebay, most with my signature on them. When I see them, I let the seller know that they're selling the comic book equivalent of a blood diamond. Artists include Kurt Swan, Marty Nodell, John Romita Jr., Kevin West, Tom Morgan, among many others. Because of this I ONLY use CGC verified signature witness service because I know I can trust it. The system works, so let it work. Here's a pic of one of those BS COAs; stay away from them.
  8. 'evening; can we get a 'Spider-Man vs. Wolverine' please? Set created "Spider-Man vs. Wolverine One-shot" set. Thanks
  9. Keep chipping away; you'll always find a deal. I try to set attainable collecting goal each time I reach the last goal. As a kid, and we're talking '80's here, I traded a handful of 'Now and Laters' for and Amazing Spider-Man #1 and #15 in the best trade deal since Manhattan v. Beads. A few years ago I started trying to build an ASM collection from 200-700. Once that was complete, I needed all of the variants in that run. I got myself down to the 4 big ones (648 Campbell Color Variant, 667 Dell'Otto Variant, 688 Campbell Variant & 700 Quesada Sketch Variant) that I'll never be able to afford. Since I have OCD and hate looking at those gaps, I started a 'gofundme' campaign. I don't expect anything from it, it was just something fun to set up since they have a 'wishes' section. I saw a young lady got 30G to buy comic books by giving out pics of her self in cosplay outfits with each donation, so why not. Now I'm widdling my way DOWN and I'm at 108-700 (minus 129 as I'm waiting to find a good deal on a 7.5 or better). But keep plugging away and you'll get the issues you need:)
