  1. Midnight box breaks Alright, this was a nite to remember! So, i get the news my friend is feeling a lil blue, i tell him to come over so we can open some star wars galaxy 7 cards. I had bought two boxes for $20 apiece at this flea market i frequent. He gets to my house about 12:30 am, and by 1:14 ish we get a big hit out of our what was supposed to be a one box break. Well as luck would have it i pulled a luke skywalker sketch card, or so we thought! Turns out its 1:231 packs ratio sketchagraph card not only is it an original sketch of mark hamil,l but its also signed by mister hamill himself and the artist sarah wilkinson! Well this journal is less about my big hit, but more about the ferver that insued shortly after. So high on foil wrappers, and cardboard glory he starts suggesting we open more boxes! At first i was reluctant, but i soon caved in because his magic is undeniable. So i tell him i have two clone wars widevision retail boxes, and i explain to him taht retail boxes are not like hobby boxes the ratios are double the odds, basically hobbies have 1:24 packs odds and retails 1:48 packs odds ( for sketches). Well at 24 packs per box our odds were low..... Or so i thought out of the two boxes we got two sketches one of which i like the other bein so-so. So still not satiated my friend says whats next?!?!?!? I tell him he's crazy! He tells me 1 more...so i break easier than the boxes we just cracked...i admit to having 3 topps transformers rots boxes....he proceeds to "read" each box, and settles on 1 in particular....i tell him autographs are rarer, 1:91 packs! Seeing how i opened two boxes previously, and did not get a hit i figure our odds are good....i tell him also that some autos dont command big bucks like peter cullen and shia lebeouf...close to the end he pulls a shia lebeouf autograph, well im not a fan of shia and i was happy to pull it, but i was dyin for an optimus cullen card....but still it was better than nothing. All in all it was a goodnite and opening packs of cards is reinvigorating and exciting brings me back to my youth....thanx for reading..... Oh yea just in case some people say this is comic collectors site well one weekend my contact wasnt there at the flea market so i ended buyin y the last man's 12-18 for 50 cents apiece so there nyah! Ok so i opened a couple of the transformers boxes from my past journal looking for auto's sadly i didnt find any. But there was something bout rippin open dem packs, brought me back to my younger years so in short i went back to get more....heres what i got...3 sealed boxes of star wars galaxy 5 for $10 apiece, 2 sealed boxes of topps clone wars 1st series $7 each....and for $5 because the guy liked me a star wars trilogy 36 pack hobby box...this is a great flea market, i once found a decent cherry poptart #1 1st print for $1....ill be back next weekend hoping to find the motherload. Im thinkin bout selling the boxes to fund my comic con trip.....should i....should i open them and bask in the uv coated glory....i dont know. Thanx 4 reading. Fcbd weekend

$5 for what?? Ok so free comic book weekend went well, i saw avengers and it was best superhero movie to date i think. Fcbd itself was cool got some books i wanted but i didnt get the adventure time smurf flip book, adv time is funny show watch if you have never seen... I did get the mouse guard hardcover which i am sad and disgusted to see people are trying to sell on ebay....even retailers tried to hold out, for shame. Best part tho i stopped by a flea market on my way to forbiden planet in nyc to get my fill of free reads...well i happen to see a guy selling sealed boxes of cards, all kinds. Turns out i buy 5 sealed boxes of transformers rotf topps cards for $5 apiece... 1 transformers movie one topps sealed box for $7 (meagan fox auto would be great), a batman season one topps sealed box for $8 and for the heck of it wacky packages ans 1 for $4. 24 packs in each of the mentioned boxes! Btw thanks to ppl who weighed in on my last journal...keep replying cause this stuff does happen? Thanx again. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

But the thing is she wants $5 is it wrong to purchase the book? Should i give her $50 to be nice? Or have the collecting gods shined there light on you? 5. powerpuff hope somebody will read this and have info.not too long ago i got back an odd book from cgc its action comics 769, it got a qualified grade as well as a note on its manufacturing error, the error being it has powerpuff girls #5 interior pages, well i checked the census and it shows one more action 769 graded under the qualified label.i began to wonder does it have the same problem as mine and if so was this a large scale error that slipped by the dist.well if any other collector has this copy slabbed or not, share any and all info. thanx
  6. top ten reasons cgc should... okay, this will be my first real journal,2 days before nycc.i was thinking about how i like to submit my books at the con(,one to save money on shipping, two cgc ss,three to avoid damages and losses through the initial shipping to them)so i see dave gibbons will be there, and think to my self sweet time too get those graphitti designs HCs signed.so knowing that cgc wont grade hardcovers,i began to wonder why.is it just the sheer amount of pages to inspect, is it that maybe HCs are easier to bootleg/knockoff,or maybe its right man for the right job type thing.i dont know it could be a myriad of things. so... i decided on a top ten sort of list... well as many reasons i can come up with on the fly for pros on grading HCs/trades 1:rarity, some trades are hard to come by 2:PROTECTION,one of the reasons for grading.i belive HCs are more easily damaged(from falls) 3:more business for cgc 4:obvoius,increase in value 5:diplay? running low on ideas 6:preservation, ahhhh ill take it 7:aha how could i forget cgc ss 8:another obvious one, safety of mind in blind (online) purchases 9:fun? 10:da da .because its comic booky! ok cons 1:expensive grading fees(willing to pay by the way) 2:longer waits(again willing) 3:gee thats it... wait eat and think..,ah graded trades=shelf eater 4:trades are for reading, hmmm but then so are comics 5:too much plastic casing. well there are toy grading companies out there that grade some huge items well thats it. do i get my trades signed and risk losing condition points, when, if ever cgc decides to expand upon there services by grading trades. the world may never know. sobotimusprime p.s. not much of a con list huh.
