HERITAGE November comic and art auction

I also think, it’s easier to assume you’re getting FMV (even when you’re not) in an auction as there are other people willing to pay at the level you’re paying for a said piece. in a show or with a dealer, it’s easier to question whether a price is too high (even if it isn’t)

I think, with a big Heritage auction on the immediate horizon, people were more inclined to hold back and gamble later than pay these aspirational prices today. Had prices been lower and had the event had more space between it and next weekend, maybe people would’ve been more engaged. I bought a Ditko Daredevil 235 page last event, but it was aggressively priced to sell and I couldn’t pass it up. I saw no deals of that ilk this time around

I saw a page from a key first appearance, and I also have a page from that book. It seemed to be much higher than I would’ve valued it, but I’m hoping I’m wrong because that would mean my page is quite valuable! Watching it to see if it sells 🤞🏻

TOS 49 PAGE1 Splash DITKO new iron man and angel
Grant Turner replied to drdonaldblake1's topic in Original Comic Art
Yep. I requested a price on another ditko piece and they sent me a list of all of the ditko pieces they had, with prices. This was 9/23/20. I will say the page I was looking at was 24k. I balked at the time. When I went back 6 month later it was 36k… -

I stole a Sal Buscema Defenders 63 page from Heritage tonight! $660 with BP! Sal pages from that era have been selling between 1k-3k lately. The other Sal Defenders page tonight (from #62) went for 3.2k. Undoubtedly a better page but not 5x better. And it has 2 of my favorite Defenders, Nighthawk and Son of Satan

Heritage September 2022 comic and art auction
Grant Turner replied to drdonaldblake1's topic in Original Comic Art
Yes! It’s one thing to say Silver Age Hawkman pages are stagnant, but looking at Marvel pages, they’re still going strong. Don Heck early Marvel pages, for example, are seeing huge gains -

Not being facetious… is there talk about silver age stuff gathering dust? Certainly not Marvel hero stuff, at least not that I see -
Heritage September 2022 comic and art auction

228K for TOS #39 with one of the best pages from Iron Man's origin seemed cheap compared recent 6 figure comic art. Nah, this was a huge sale! It’s the highest selling page from the book to date. Wait until the first appearance of the armor page shows up! Or death of yinsen… -
Who out there is keeping their eye on this auction? personally, there are 2 items here, that I’m more excited about, over anything in the Heritage auction.

Is there a piece (or pieces) in this auction that people are monitoring to determine whether we’ve entered the downturn or not? If so what are you watching and what number(s) does it need to hit or miss? -
If you list anything on CAF as historic...
Grant Turner replied to allyz's topic in Original Comic Art
What if panels from a page you own are featured in Marvel Saga (the official history of the Marvel Universe)? is that historic? 🤣🤣🤣 -
Why are these identical Mignola Hellboy sketches worth anything?
Grant Turner replied to a topic in Original Comic Art
No different than the Steranko Nick Fury sketches. But full disclosure, I have a Steranko Fury sketch and I love it! -

My win from last month’s Heritage auction arrived today. So happy to have picked this up, didn’t think I would, and certainly not for the price I stole it at. I figured that by selling every page from Journey into Mystery 108 in one auction, at least one page would fall through the cracks, and luckily I was right. Dr Strange is one of my top 3 favorite characters so to get an early Strange appearance (and a Kirby/Stone page at that) is a real feather in the cap!
-
My favorite silver age book is Avengers 9 by Stan Lee, Don Heck, and Ayers my favorite Bronze Age story arc is Defenders 94-100 (here’s a page from 100 by J.M. DeMatteis, Don Perlin, and Joe Sinnott

The Daredevil 235 page I got last month on ComicArtLive for $1,100 looks like a great deal when the prior (almost identical page) went for $2,400 today😀

I just won a Kirby JIM 108 page with Dr Strange! Didn’t think I’d even be in the running but it actually came in almost 2k below my max bid. deals are still to be had out there!
-
I think that show that the Secret Wars 8 page was a huge mistake by 2 buyers who didn’t know what they were bidding on. I’m not a DC or Batman guy, but just saying, this should be more expensive than that

It seems as if we are at a proverbial line in the sand. on one hand, long term collectors; saying “that’s not the FMV, based on my history and knowledge” on the other, sellers; saying “it’s the new normal”, based on current trends, and a little prognostication. I think within the next two or three big auctions we’ll have a better idea who’s right. (as an example to John E, I’m watching something on eBay. Its a page from a key Marvel Bronze Age #1 that doesn’t feature the title character. The book is the first appearance of another Marvel luminary, one of my favorites, but he doesn’t appear, he’s just mentioned. I’m tempted to go for it just for that reason, but it’s about 2x-3x what I think it should be worth. Seller has already marked it down once. Now I just wait to see if he’ll go lower still)
