There was a discussion of Cole Romance cover popularity as a result of the recent Heritage sale of True to Life Romance 11.

I will set up a poll for that, with the following approach:

Pick your 10 favorites out of all 83 Cole Romance covers.

    Deadline Midnight Sunday

I have scans ready for all the covers to make it easy to participate.

    Thoughts?

I’d like to see it. I’d also like to see a poll on his non-romance covers, but first things first

Glad you sold your Batman 1 when you did going to take a bit before that book gets that price again.

If memory serves me right, I think you have a Cap 1 hm

Hi Harold. Yes my Bat 1 was the same book that sold yesterday in heritage. When I sold it 2 years ago thru CC it went for crazy money, and I feel bad for yesterday’s consignor.

yes I still have my Cap 1. I guess I should have sold it same time as the Bat 1!

3.0 ow/w vs. 2.5 cr/ow has me declaring a win for the 2.5 by more than a nose.

Both books are super cool. There is a strong case that CA 1 probably should be the higher valued book given it is the title character very first app and origin and Batman 1 is not. Still, the fact that CA and his rogues gallery are just not as good characters as Batman and his rogues gallery probably tips the scale for now. Batman 1 could even get a big bump off of the Joker movies now CA is out of the MCU.

Dont disagree, but due to Caps lucky birth into the Timely/Marvel world, he’s got better friends that resonate more with the youngsters. Spider-man, anyone? Heck, even Daredevil and Iron Man too. That alone will maintain some parity for our beleaguered Cap

#1 and #2 just keep going up.

#2 for sure. What I learned with this most recent #2 sale is that, unlike most books, there appears to be no price fall-off after the pandemic ended. The price just keeps motoring upwards

actually, now that I’m thinking about it, same for #1.  Unlike almost all the other Promise books, the #1 sold for more the second time around: $102k at initial offering in June of 2021, then $144k a couple years later.

these books must be on every want list. Overcoming the Promise curse is no small feat

What does everyone think of the relatively high number of very high value comics being flipped in the recent past with big losses? Need for cash, not reading the market correctly or something more ominous?

anyone with the wherewithal to gather these books ain’t likely to be dumb or unaware of market conditions. I like to think the sale of these big books simply marks the end of someone’s odyssey thru the collecting arc. When the thrill is gone, just let em go, no matter what the music is doing at the time.

But then again, of course, I can’t discount the “ominous” part of your query(as the world moves toward electronic images and away from good old fashioned printed media, the effects will blow back on the funny book business, blah blah blah)

and as AJD says below, I don’t think we know yet how the market is going to treat these high grade big books. The Action 1 seems to be doing just fine. The 9.2 Cap 1 is still low, but the slugfest is just warming up

This is the link to the GoFundMe that was set up for Bob's daughter Katy to pay for Bob's final expenses and to help her, as she uprooted herself across the country to take care of her dad in his final months, quitting her job, and only starting a new one the day he passed. Paul Levitz, Doc V, Neil Gaiman, Steve Englehart, and many others have stepped up to the plate to help out. They are very close to their stated goal, and it would be nice if the CGC boards could put them over the top.

the irony here is inescapable. I always thought Bob got into book trouble due to his desperate attempts to fund his daughter’s medical needs, and I admired him for his strong sense of responsibility to family. so it’s only fitting that it’s come to this.

im happy to give, same as to jimjum
