  1. Hello all, I haven't made a CGC submission in a couple of years, and since then the costs and wait times have climbed. Slabbing 3 books 3 years ago took a few months, which I found excessive - I can't imagine waiting a year or more like some people do these days. Since then, I have been slowly building up a little collection with some decent keys. While I would love to send them out to be slabbed, is it worth it anymore? Do slabs sell better than raw books? I'm on the fence myself - for higher value books I'd rather find a raw dog then pay for the slabbed grade...maybe lower value keys I'd spring for a slab, but the cost of higher quality books that are graded is making it less attractive to buy. My intent is to build up some inventory and start selling to get higher value books, in other words to have the hobby pay for itself. The question is this - is the cost of slabbing and the wait times worth it if you intend to have the hobby fund itself?
  2. Hello - could use a little help grading this Avengers 196. I intend to clean and press if I submit to CGC, but need to confirm my thoughts on whether it’s worth sending in to grade at all. My apologies - photos not scans. Thanks in advance!
  3. Hi guys, On my first CGC submission I made a newbie mistake and didn't press/clean the book beforehand (ASM 300 and 301). The ASM 300 came back a 7.0 and the 301 a 9.4. Grader notes only for the 300 were finger bends front and back, and colour-breaking spine ticks. Given how hot ASM300 is right now, I reckon sending it back for a press/clean and regrade may be worth the risk/cost. I know the spine ticks won't help the grade but I am hopeful the bends being pressed out will - worth it or no? If I do send it out, do I crack it myself or does CGC do that for me? Thanks!
  4. Hello all - got more images however not the best quality...apologies.
  5. Thanks! I reckon I will purchase but this helps me determine how much to offer!
  6. Hello all, I have the opportunity to purchase a raw Hulk 180 with the value stamp - I have yet to see the book in person but will do so this week. I have some images attached of my key concerns - there are clear pen marks where a vendor (?) has scratched out the 25cent price and written 15cent on cover page with a felt tip pen (?). There also looks to be a couple of pen swirls but they may be pencil marks. There are some stains on the cover, and a little spine roll but I don't see any major creases or major spine ticks(but will assume there may be minor ones). First page looks OW but the rest are nice a crisp W. Best guess without the pen marks is 5.0... I don't want to send this over to the Grading forum as the images I have are not very good seeing as they are not mine. I could use some help assessing the ballpark grade with the pen marks and more importantly would a press/clean help with any of the mark-up/stains? Given the price I reckon I will pull the trigger as it's a Hulk 180 with value stamp for not a ton of money, but I also want to ensure I am armed with the right information before I do. I try to follow the mantra don't buy the grade, but in this case it's a little more than I am used to spending! Help!
  7. Hello, I am thinking of buying an Iron Man Sub-Mariner 1 but I am wary of the grade give it is likely low to mid. I am horrible at assessing those levels and could use a hand! I only have the seller images - I hope this is allowed on this forum. If not my apologies in advance!
  8. Hello - I picked up a couple of CGC SS slabs and the cases are thinner compared to others I have. Is this normal? Thanks!
  9. Hmmm - not a stain may be production defect IMO. Doesn't look like bleed either. I bought the book off a collector who has multiple copies bought when it hit the stands in the 80's and was bagged right away (having seen his collection, I believe if anything it may be defect or bleeding somehow, not wash). Thanks for the input - I would have not seen that!
  10. Hello - looking for help grading this one. I think it's in the 9's but it has a couple of things that may or may not make it worth my while to submit to CGC. My concern is on the spine there are a couple of dents that don't seem to break color, but I am not sure if a press would resolve. Also, there is a bit of foxing (I think that's what you call it) on the top left corner. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
  11. Hi Folks - hoping to get some help grading this one based on feedback from the Newbie forum to try here. Recently purchased MTU #141 CPV, and being a relative newcomer to collecting missed the writing on it (front top left corner). I figured it was a solid 8 before I saw this, now I am thrown for a loop. Hoping it is still worth getting graded and slabbed for ultimate goal of flipping it so I can get to the titles I want to keep long term. Can you spare a grade based on the front cover? Back cover is solid, white pages IMO.
  12. Thanks for the great feedback! I will send it in for a press and grading and let you know how it came out. Given I my attraction to the art of the cover and not so much the value, I reckon this will stay in my budding collection. You guys are awesome!
  13. I've never sent in a comic for pressing and cleaning, so hopefully someone can assist before I send this off and spend the money... Recently picked this up and I am hoping that a cleaning will remove the writing in the top left corner on the front cover. I believe it is pen but I am not sure. I spent more than I should have ($40 CAD), but it was on hand and I love the cover art. Would a cleaning remove the writing? Thanks in advance!
  14. Hello all - recent purchase that looks rough but I am hoping a press and clean may up the value. Seems like white portions are tanned or stained. Bends and folds present, as well as some chipping. My guess is this is about a 3.5 or 4.0. Would you submit for cleaning/pressing? I love the cover and am hoping the this would brighten up.
  15. Hi Gang - need some advice. I recently picked up The Pro #1 CGC 9.8 SS signed by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti for next to nothing, but alas the case is cracked in the back (see image). I intend on selling it as I have no real interest in the book, and I am wondering if re-slabbing it is worth it? The integrity of the book is maintained, it is really just cosmetic for the case - they had stuff piled on it.
  16. Hello - this is my first foray into this world and I am by all account a novice collector. I recently found a Thor 128 (my guess is a 4.5-6.5 grade) but what is throwing me is the Stan Lee signature on the front. It was supposedly signed around 2014 at a Montreal ComicCon. Asking $200 - is it worth the risk? Can it be authenticated?
