  1. Do you have the second (Romita) Spider-Man? If so, I’ll take it.
  2. Not trying to degrade the seller or buyer, but this signature reflects all that was wrong with Stan Lee in his final year of life. Sad to see this expressed here.
  3. Oh wow! Never noticed that before! Ditko’s signature is somewhat worked into the drawing itself, unlike Romita.
  4. I was looking at some of my favorite ASM Romita covers the other day, and I realized Romita didn't sign his name on a cover until 24 issues into his run with ASM 62. He didn't even sign the classic ASM 50! In fact, I am wondering is ASM 62 is the very first artist signature to appear on a Spidey comic as I don't think Ditko ever signed a cover either. Oddly enough, Romita's signature again disappears before showing up a bit more regularly with the classic Mysterio cover to ASM 66, but even then it is sporadic in the run. Does anyone know the story behind cover signatures? I wonder who was the first to start doing this and when it finally became a cover staple?
  5. The 12th edition of "The Collector's Handbook" was provided to me (unsolicited and free of charge) by Heritage Auctions after a recent comic book purchase. I was quite surprised to see the following official storage recommendations: 1) Maintain a temperature of 50-65 degrees(F). 2) 40-60% relative humidity is important. I wonder if these recommended conditions (at least in temperature) have a bit of flexibility if the books are graded? I'm guessing not. I would venture a guess that the majority of us do not keep our houses at 65 degrees or cooler and I also don't actively track the humidity levels in my house. I've always been most concerned about UV light hitting the books and assumed that if I was comfortable with the temperature/humidity levels in my house, the books would be okay.
  6. McFarlane doesn't have "bad" covers, but he certainly recycles his art a lot.
  7. 9.2? Can’t decide if I should press and slab? Plan to sell soon.
  8. Comicdonna’s answer. I used to work homeowners claims for State Farm and I remember a ‘special limit’ on things like jewelry and collectibles (stamps, coins, comics, etc.) at or around $1000 for the lot, not even individually. So while I’d love to live in a world where $16,000 in comic value is little, it’s far more than any special limit coverage provided by any current insurance plan I have and the gap is not one I could quickly or easily make up in the event of a loss. So for me, it’s worth the $125 or so they quoted me for the year.
  9. I’m not sure that a basic homeowners or renters policy covers collections like these. If they do, I imagine they are subject to pretty small limits.
  10. I thought I was get a separate policy on my relatively small comic collection (valued around $16,000) I tried to go through State Farm for a personal articles policy, but they won’t accept GPA as an ‘appraisal’ and are giving me a difficult time in trying to document the collection despite pictures and CGC grading. Has anyone had any better luck with a particular company or service? Thank you! Ian
  11. It’s hard to remember time when Spider-Man wasn’t plastered over everything (no complaints about it though). But most of my childhood, it was very rare to find a toy or merchandising item with Spidey. In 1979, at 6 mo old, I was introduced to Spider-Man by the awesome Mego doll. I played with that thing until the arms literally broke off. But it wasn’t until I had my first Viewmaster with Spidey battling Doc Ock that I realized he came from comic books. I ‘read’ ASM 3 so many times in that device and loved every frame and word bubble. For years I have wanted to have that book in my small Spidey collection. Finally! I’m so happy
  12. Just bumping this since it's been a while since I originally posted.
  13. Cool, about what I was going to guess, but wasn't sure with a possible upgrade due to a good press. I decided to sell for $150, which according to GPA is below the current price point for this grade. Thank you for all the help. It's such a great cover!
  14. I forgot I owned this and recently found it at my parents house. Not in the best condition, but certainly not had for a newsstand copy and having had it since I was a kid and read it a few times. Somehow, I even kept the tattoos intact. One caveat: I am NOT a professional comic book grade. So I actually posted this in the "Can you Spare a Grade" forum to get a general consensus based on the images provided here. My opinion is that it can certainly benefit from a press. I see quite a bit of non-color breaking areas I tried to capture. There may also be some staining on the back page that I don't think can be cleaned. I honestly don't know what that is. Here are the rules: No probies or HOSers 1 Buyer Pays Shipping, Dependent Upon Location: $15 for USA, outside of America based on current rates. 2. Payment by Paypal or Venmo only. 3. First in the sales thread gets it. 4. No returns but happy to provide additional pictures or subjective observations. Please feel free to make me an offer through PM I'm asking $75 (OBO) plus shipping.

Somehow, I even kept the tattoos intact. I'm going to sell it, but want to get a good idea of the grade first. It can certainly use a press. A lot of non-color breaking areas I tried to illustrate. There may also be some slight water damage or staining on the back page that I don't think can be cleaned. I would appreciate an idea of a grade before and after a press. I'll then sell on the boards once I have a fair idea of what to ask.
  16. Invoice has been paid so I'm going to close this thread Thank you everyone for your interest.
