  1. Thank you! Yes, everything is still included and attached including the tattoo inside the insert(that's on the back part), it's just the small front part that is stuck to the front cover. That's part of a submission I just sent in so I guess I'll find out soon lol

Attached a pic of the part stuck to the inside front cover.

  2. Have a copy where the front of the tattooz insert is stuck to the front page(the glossy side of insert in the front, unfortunately I've seen it before usually when pressed improperly). How will that affect the grade or be noted? Would it still maintain a blue label?

  3. Never submitted cards for grading before, are comics and cards shipped to the same location for grading? If so, can they be packaged together?(obviously different submission forms so they're partially seperate)

    Thanks for any help!

I do think a non-qualified label for part of a mailing insert being removed sounds weird. This is more or less why qualified labels exist. And people tend to be harder on qualified books that are missing ads than they should be IMO. Missing a MVS is one thing, but missing something that's inserted that isn't connected to the story is silly. I don't make the rules & maybe this is an exception.

Going off very limited information, all the available & sold MJs of this issue I can find have a CGC label that says it also contains the Tattooz insert. The label could not reflect reality, but that's what several say. A missing Tattooz is the classic green label for this book. I don't think that should really matter with grading, but if that's the case you could still get a Qualified grade.

I don't see the spine ticks, but this looks like a 9.2/9.4. Sometimes I think this book gets treated with a heavier hand, but maybe not as heavy for a rarer variant.

Just going off of what cgc told me. Inserts that are supposed to come with every copy would cause qualified or a grade drop, but special inserts that were only in certain copies wouldn't.

9.2/9.4 is about what I was thinking, its harder to see the ticks on this cover due to the color of the cover at the spine. It looks pretty similar to one I sent in last August that got 9.4, might be nicer corners etc but more spine ticks so it kinda evens out.

I do not know who told you it wouldn't affect the grade, nor garner a qualified, but I wouldn't trust that accretion.

The graders are the ones who make that call and this should get one or the other. They either ding the grade for part of it cut out or they don't,  but it gets a qualified grade / label, either way the label should note that it has been cut.

    Just my 2c

    either way. Good luck.

That was straight from a cgc grader and also a customer service rep. They said that since you could basically take the insert out and it would still be a fully intact newsstand book, it doesn't affect the grade, and also doesn't get qualified but it may be noted either in graders notes or on the label or both that the order form is missing.

  6. Already had my question answered by cgc that the missing order form portion of the MJ insert wouldn't affect the grade or give it a qualified, so let's see what everyone thinks of the book itself...only defects I can see are 3 1/8" or so color breaking spine ticks. Will be pressed before submitting for sure. Appreciate the opinions!

  7. Another quick question, same book...if the 238 had the front part of the tattooz insert stuck to the back of the front cover, would that affect the grade? From what I remember the back of the tattooz insert was like a slick coating and I've seen a few get pressed and not have the proper buffer so it got stuck to the cover. I got one like that, and just curious before I see if I can get someone to get it unstuck without damaging anything.

  8. I have a MJ book missing the order form(half of right page of insert, cut cleanly right at the middle, does not affect story) and am curious how much of a grade hit a book would get for that if I wanted a blue label. Assuming the book was pristine otherwise, how much of a hit? And how would I request blue instead of qualified when submitting? Thanks!

  9. Long story short, bought a lot that had a couple of sets of venom lethal protector in it and noticed one was a fairly nice newsstand so I bought it. Finally get it in hand and it has some ticks and needs cleaned which was disappointing. But then I notice it's an APV, of which there's only 15 currently on the cgc census and 0 on cbcs. Detailed pics listed, some discoloration on the price box and back cover but looks superficial and should come off easily, probably 5 decent spine ticks mostly on lower half both front and back cover. Not much color break but enough, press would definitely help a ton there. Bottom right front cover corner a little dinged up maybe 1/8" or less into the book.

    Thank you for the help!

  10. Two questions.

1 - are paid memberships now required for submitting books/getting sigs witnessed at cons?

2 - is cgc still doing occasional sales for premium memberships? Had mine run out and missed the discounted rate(my email is too flooded and missed the notices).

    Thanks!

I have heard stories of folks taking the "Tatooz" from F.F. 252 and use them to replace the missing Tatooz in ASM 238, is this the case with this particular book?

Here is a pic of my F.F. 252 with the insert removed, as you can see, there is a tear at the staple and the cover is detached from the top staple.

    thumbnail.jpg

No clue honestly, the insert I'm almost 100% sure is original, because who would swap out a damaged insert?(it's not damaged at the staples, it's ripped)

As far as the tattooz, it's possible it was swapped but there's no real way to tell as it's the same as the one that would have came with it.

I'm pretty sure they would give a blue label since there's no definitive way to prove it was swapped out, but unsure how much of a grade hit it would take. The entire insert is intact, just part of it was ripped. It's a shame since the book itself is in great shape, probably around the 8.0-8.5 range.

  12. So I have an asm 238 that does have the tattooz in the insert. But the insert itself is damaged. How would cgc note this? Is it still blue label but takes a small hit for the insert damage? If so, how much of a hit?

Second part to this. The tattooz are obviously loose in the insert, how could I secure them in there so they don't potentially fall out due to the damage to the insert, or would that be considered partial resto?

    Any help is appreciated!

  13. Couple questions about getting sigs witnessed when doing multiple per book. I read up on it a bit, and get the whole process with witnesses, but not quite as much about multiple signatures.

At baltimore comiccon I have about 7 or 8 books to get signed, I believe 3 of them are double sigs and 1 will be triple. Total of about 10 different creators doing the signatures. I'm assuming a witness wouldn't have time to follow me around and wait in lines for all of those, so do you just have a way to contact them specifically for the signing? Also, for multiple books they'd have the book in their possession after the first signature, so I'm assuming that's how it's handled?

Also for the witnessed fee, is there any extra charge for multiple sigs or a flat price for SS grading?

Thanks for the help! I've been collecting for a while and have dropped books off for grading before, but never gone through the SS process and just want to make sure I have my ducks in a row to make it easier on both myself and the cgc witnesses.

  14. Little wrinkling at the top of front cover, presser fairly sure he can remove 99% of it, may have a tiny bit of defect still showing but nothing major. Slight color dulling on front cover(lighting made it look worse but it's not bad at all). A couple small ticks on front cover, don't see any that break color. Plan on submitting this in October with a batch I have waiting for signings.

    Thanks for the help!

  15. I have multiple books I'll be getting graded and witnessed sigs at baltimore comiccon in October, and had a couple of questions.

1 - is it possible to fill out submission forms ahead of time so I don't need to at the show? Or just do that at the booth when I get there?

2 - these books will be getting multiple sigs, I believe one of them is up to about 17 different artists/authors that will be at the show now that I intend on getting it signed by. How is that handled? I figured a CGC rep would need to be in possession of the book to authenticate sigs etc since it isn't like I'm just getting it signed once. Also, in the case that I couldn't get all 17 done in one day, would the rep hold on to that book until the second day and them continue with getting the sigs?

New to con submissions and witnessed sigs, any help is appreciated!

  16. Any help on this one? Minor edge wear, no tears. Has a minor crease on back cover maybe an inch long on the corner but no tearing. Some page yellowing. Minor spine roll and some ticks along the spine but no color loss that I can see. Shiny cover with no scratches etc. Picked this up from a guy who bought it about 25 years ago and hasn't been removed from the bag/board and top loader it was in since then. Debating to get it graded, unfortunately my local shop stopped being a cgc participant so I might have to wait a couple months til the next con to submit it.
