  1. In the 90's...... i was told by nearly every art collector who was collecting a lot longer than me that John Romita Sr. simply drew..."THE MARVEL WAY" He has zero style and his art would never be special to anyone. I have to confess...i collected John Romita art right from the beginning because Romita Sr and Ross Andru ASM was the cheapest Spiderman art you could buy! Ditko ASM pages were $1000 and up already in 1989-1990...... McFarlane interiors were 300 and up in 1990-92 and even RON FRENZ interior ASM pages were selling for more than John Romita LARGE ART ASM pages in the early 1990s!!! I still have a 1992 or 1993 purchase receipt From Mitch I were i bought his last 20 large art ASM Romita pages he had in inventory... all were between 40-75 dollars, with a 2/3 splash from ASM 47 being 125 dollars. and on the VERY SAME invoice i also bought 4 Ron Frenz ASM pages for 150 each! I also bought on that invoice both ASM annual 21 Romita wedding covers for 200 bucks each.... But my point is...THAT WAS THE MARKET BACK THEN!!!!! Don't ever think i was so smart...I got rid of all my ASM Romita covers around 1997-1998 when they were going for 5k..as i felt they couldn't ever possibly sell for higher. I felt that people will pay 1000 for an ASM Romita page in the future but no way will collectors pay over 5k for an ASM Romita cover, as the buying pool of collectors at that number woukld be quite low... I certainly blew that one..........LOL But i did always use my ASM cover money sales to buy more ASM interiors and splashes...so it all worked out in the long run, and i'm certainly thankful and quite happy that I was at the right place and collected at the right time to get what i could before the auctions and Ebay exploded the art collecting world as we know it.. Mike
  2. The Avengers 4 story is rumored to be complete...And physically SEEN in the past 5 or so years.
  3. I sold his one not too long ago also...LOL...always fun seeing art come back for auction.
  4. I just sold this one very recently....LOL
  5. Actually...the FF 70 cover deal didn't happen at the show...the deal happened unexpectedly at my home on the Monday before the show as the brothers were driving cross country to the NYC show and asked if they could stop by! i got "3" Herb Trimpe Hulk covers in the deal for the FF 70 cover,..including the COMPLETE hulk 121 cover and complete story, with the first appearance of "THE GLOB" (precursor to first swamp thing in HOS #92 by 1.5 years!) Hulk 121 is a great great book with 2 great FULL splashes....and 2 great semi-splashes....But the deal was a lot lot bigger than just those. I collect Trimpe hulk covers so i was ok trading away the FF 70 cover to get some sweet sweet collection pieces! Mike
  6. i actually agree with Mike H (vodou) here..... The stories on how certain collection art was acquired is actually as fun to talk about as much as owning the art itself. I have so many amazing stories...many i've shared here..and they are fun to rehash from time to time.... with people who appreciate our hobby of course. I got laughed at by other collectors and dealers for about 10 years for being mainly the #1 guy collecting and paying retail at the time for Romita amazing Spider-man art from october 1989 (when I first got into the hobby) to about 1997.... I was trading Kirby and every other high end artists work for Romita ASM for that entire early decade of the 1990's at value for value, and I was laughed at a lot for doing that. then Glen Brunswick came in the hobby...and the Romita art market changed......... LOL. As for this flipping thread...... I flip art every day practically. that's what you do when you sell art . If you don't know what you are doing, you go out of business real quick and/or you stop selling or leave the hobby having lost money you invested. Not sure why people think flipping art is bad...... if you have it too high it wont move......and you are losing $$$ on your investment......... some people are ok with that...i'm not.... i choose to move art and work deals out in trade or cash / trade that work if i've had art too long. This works for me...others choose to keep art for many years and even decades without it selling....... everyone has their own business model on what art is worth to them. I always tell people..if you want something on my website i've had for a long time...i will "ALWAYS" give a discount (within reason) to work a deal out. Is that not common sense thinking? My ASM art collection is the only art i have that I choose to hold onto for the long haul..BUT.....if someone asks and i get an offer that makes me feel it's worth selling....I SELL!

  9. Hate to ask this but.......i bought this piece in the last comiclink.... and returned it back to Josh at the san diego comic con, as the cover which was stated as all painted art. was to my eyes, actually 12 color glossy photos or post cards glued onto a piece of foam core. i showed it to 3-4 collectors in san diego before returned it.. (in case i was missing something...) everyone agreed with me that it was not painted art just original pictures i guess???? ......i just noticed the piece was back up for auction again this past night as tonight was the first time i looked at the full auction.... this lot has the listing for the cover below as being painted art....i'm hoping this was just an honest error.....I feel the new owner should know.. (it did sell for more last night than what i paid for it in the previous auction). SWAMP THING #101 COVER TOM TAGGART 1990, Unique painted collage image of the many faces of Swamp Thing ComicLink Comments: This collage art by painter Tom Taggart was published as the cover to Swamp Thing #101 (1990). Photos are of a model made by Taggart. The piece features the many faces of Swamp Thing in an eye-catching design. Swamp Thing has been a part of DC Universe now for almost five decades, often attracting many of the top creators in the field to tell his stories.
  10. Hi all...... just got emailed about this thread..... yes...sadly...as many others have stated.....the first piece is a clear tracing. Webs on Spider-Man’s head are just off and not the smooth webbing John is known for. This art image was actually published twice.....first as the HEADER CARD FOR the NEWSPAPER VENDING MACHINES PROMOTING THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN STRIP in the newspapers in December 1976. But this person probably copied the image from the back cover to a mid 1970s marvel treasury which is this exact same image. if you look closely at the signature...he tried to fit the “M” into the last name as it’s sorta squeezed in there on the signature. I believe the published image is on my website still in my spiderman gallery but a good friend on list here now is the proud owner of the header card art and he can share it as well if he wants. I do know that heritage had ANOTHER ALMOST IDENTICAL pen and ink black and white image they sold a few years back...to my piece but without all the webs that are shown in the header card surrounding spiderman on my piece I owned....so I knew mine was the definite one used for the spiderman strip header card. Now this older hand colored piece is from the 1960s and John Romita has confirmed in the past he drew it and one other similar image of spiderman in a leaping pose also drawn and hand colored by John Romita in the 1960s. 11. Hello.... sorry my late message .....I actually planned my first ever vacation overseas and needless to say ....I got swept up into the big Hong Kong protests going on last week....and didn’t get to emails for a few days after flying out to Asia on August 7th.....and I’m now in Thailand. My brother ships my art for me and takes care of things for me while I’m on vacation and I needed to get hold of him first to respond to Steve’s one email he sent me asking for tracking on the 10th.... but I couldn’t answer him for a few days until I heard from my brother that the art has shipped, so I’m sorry for any inconvenience to Steve as he is very anxious to get his art which I do understand and I hope we get to do deal #2 in the near future. ever since I got into this great hobby I’ve always considered it a mini Christmas present to myself when I get a new piece of art in for my collection......so I most certainly try to ship as fast as possible to everyone, regardless if it’s a 100 dollar page or a 100k page, as we all like to physically feel our hands on our art! It does upset me at times however when people think and even post at times that because they didn’t buy a high end piece of art from me that for some reason I would not give them first class service, as that is never ever the case with me, as all of us started small.....even us higher end collectors. I've always believed that the 100 dollar buyer today very well may be a BIG DOLLAR BUYER TOMORROW.....so I always treat a lower end buyer with the same respect as I do a high end buyer. Customer service is extremely important to me...... if I screw up I should be told about it so I can do better next time...... And ALL art sellers.....( collectors too) should be held to that same standard. I love this hobby and I want to buy, sell, and trade art with as many people as possible in our great hobby!! Mike Burkey
  12. Not sure if anyone posted this but......cap 109 cover was LARGE ART! I sold it to the HA consignor..... same person who put the asm 100 Cover in auction I sold him as well. He told me his kids college tuitions are all paid off now...LOL

  14. These are pretty rare Christmas cards Barry Windsor-Smith drew for Gorblimey Press. 1974 Card on top, 1976 card on bottom. looking to know if anyone has ever seen the art or even the published cards? if anyone has the published cards themselves i'd be VERY interested in seeing them.... Thanks Mike
