  1. I just wanted to give everyone an update. I contacted CGC and showed them the image that I found on ebay and told them about the 4th print thing and they were very easy to work with and very nice and they are going to switch out the label for one says "convention print" instead of "4th print". I think I'm going to pay an extra 5 dollars and get them to do a fancy label as well. I didn't talk about the signature thing on my two Damned comics because 9.8 isn't bad. I learned my lesson on that. I also think I might send in some of those venom vs carnage books that clayton crain did. Now I just have to figure out which ones to send in, I suppose I'll send in the ones where Toxin has his first appearance. Thank you everyone who responded to me here for your comments and your insight and advice.

  3. I'm not butthurt about anything. I am just here trying to learn. I wasn't talking about CGC not accepting signatures as authentic. I never had any expectation that it would be recognized as an authentic signature by CGC and being given a special label. I was just saying that if the book was downgraded because of a signature that that wouldn't make much sense to me.
  4. Thank you Qalyar for your response. I think that I'm going to try to contact them again. I'm a bit scared of sending it in to get it fixed. It was a bit expensive to ship and get the books shipped back to me and I don't want the to hate me hahaha but I'm trying to contact them anyways. I talked to someone there once before and they were super-nice. Do you think it's worth the shipping. I wonder how much it decreases the value of the book to have it mislabeled? There were actually two books that I got signed. They were both copies of Damned, the comic with the bat-dong. haha I thought it was too funny not to buy and they had the guy who drew it do a signing in Houston at Bedrock comics. I was first in line and videotaped him signing them and also the Joker book he drew. It's the only time I've ever gotten an artist to sign a comic (that wasn't a personal friend of mine). In the video I filmed him signing it and then focused in on the cover and you can see that the cover is exactly, exactly the same as the comic. The people who owned bedrocks were shipping off people's comics to get them slabbed but I wasn't sure I wanted to slab anything yet. I've been an on and off again collector for a long time but I've only come back to it after a long hiatus and I'm learning lots of new things. If I could go back in time I would have paid Bedrock to get them slabbed so that I could have avoided this issue but I'm not super concerned about it either. I'm still waiting to get those in the mail and I'm pretty excited about it. I was happy to get 9.8's on both of them, just a bit confused and I think that I might be wrong, that maybe they didn't downgrade the book because of that at all? They were absolutely perfect though but I had heard that people should be prepared to be disappointed when they get their comics back. I'm still learning. It seems to me that there are lots of other ways to verify signatures, like having a notary witness the signature. Handwriting experts have been verifying signatures for forever as well. Idk. I'm not even sure that I want to sell them and I know that he signed them because I watched him sign them. I'm thinking of selling one of them, the jim lee cover, and keeping the other one and the joke book. idk.
  5. Thanks for the response Juno Beach. Personally, I understand why they might have that policy (they make money selling signatures) but I don't think it makes sense. It isn't the case that if CGC doesn't witness it that it's just someone scribbling in a book. I'm glad that I understand that that's their policy now though. I wish I had understood it before-hand.
  6. Thanks for the reply Bax. There are other ways to know that a signature is legit besides it coming from CGC. People sign legal documents all the time (for example) and it's very important that they are legitimate signatures. Sometimes millions of dollars might be riding on the legitimacy of a signed contract and they don't rely on CGC. It doesn't make sense to me that if it is a printing exclusive to this company why it should be a 4th printing if it is their first printing. I looked up the comic and found another one graded by cgc. The same comic but they labeled it as a convention edition instead of a 4th print which is accurate. https://www.ebay.com/itm/VENOM-3-SDCC-2018-VARIANT-FIRST-PRINT-MARVEL-COMICS-CGC-9-8-FIRST-KNULL/202427663554?hash=item2f21a104c2:g:fQQAAOSw5S9bkCw7
  7. Thanks for the response! Here are some photos of the comic. I guess that it is what it is with the signatures. Personally I don't think that it makes much sense to do it that way but what can I say? I wish I had known that that would happen but i'm new to this. Thank you again for responding.
  8. I posted this in the modern comics section and I'm not sure that was the right place for it and I haven't gotten any responses so I'm reposting it here. Hope no one minds and if you do, my apologies, I didn't notice this thread when I went to post. I just got back a px preview exclusive comic that they made a limited number of prints of and overall I was very happy with my first time experience with CGC but I'm confused about this comic. It has the cover of the 1st print but it was labeled as a 4th print by cgc. I don't know a lot about these things but I'm a bit surprised. If it's a 4th print, why do they call it a preview and why does it have the 1st print cover? One more thing that was odd about my first experience with cgc... I send in two comics that looked like they were downgraded because they were signed by the artist... Really? Hell, you would think that would make it a 10.2 not bring it down...
