Something I hadn't noticed till now: 38 lots of Kirby art, which strikes me as more than I've seen in a single auction for a while. I can't say that any specific page leaps out at me, and most of them are repeats -- but I recognize a few pages from long-term collections, so the results will be interesting.

Maybe the consignor was ashamed and is dumping it because he hadn't gotten more signatures on it.

I figure they've got a guarantee of that amount. The plot thickens if it goes higher.

Haven't seen many pages to this issue, alas. I count two at most (I feel that Herc lifting a building showed up at some point). Also, it's not true that when Jack got his art back "most" were JIM/Thor pages. That list is out there if you look for it.

I still remember the eventful half hour I owned this piece, 100% of the pleasure coming from how it solidified my friendship with Felix.

My 12 year old self loves this painting, and there is something exciting (and nausea-provoking) about how much money it's going to go for. But if you're going to fantasize about Frazetta being fine art, then you have to also brace yourself for the art world crying "Orientalism," among other things, as a critique. I'm not Edward Said or anything but I see how it's pretty problematic.

I am so so hoping that someone has that "looking over the edge of a cliff" feeling and joybids on Egyptian Queen right now. Go on! See if you can be the high bidder!

I love that the sales tax on this thing could buy you any other piece of comic artwork.

Without seeing it in person I have no opinion about that one -- wouldn't be surprised either way. Instinct says "probably good," and awkward because it's done in felt tip pen, but WHO KNOWS.

No, I know what it was used for -- I mean how is it a victory if it goes for $5 million? It would be astounding and generate a lot of think pieces, but I'm trying to wrap my head around "victory." (Not being snarky -- genuinely curious what you mean.)

There's an intriguing amount of late silver/early bronze DC superhero stuff in there, even beyond the Murphy Anderson collection.
