  1. Great. Yet another reason for me to not consider sending some of my comics in for grading. Had been thinking about sending some of my comics in for grading, joined this site, found this forum and now second thoughts. From Newton rings, lost comics in the mail and CGC issues. Please give me a reason to change my mind. Are all these things rare. Hope you make out with your books that sucks!
  2. Tough question to ask. Art is very subjective but you do see some common names. If the post is about “best comic artists” taking out number of comics done, telling of stories, influence etc, i mainly bought comics for the below artists first, then certain characters, and all else last. So for me my favorite and I think the best comic artists are: 1 Neal Adams. 2 Bernie Wrightson. 3 Barry Smith. 4 Al Feldstein My favorite GOAT is Frazetta however I agree at least honorable mention because of very limited comic work. I feel artists like Kirby, Kane, Steranko, Miller, McFarlane etc. while I like there art and it is good, there art is very unique, and while good in uniqueness, I feel they don’t hold a candle to the artists above. Sorry the ranking is jacked up. Did not look like that when typing. Tried fixing it but couldn’t.
  3. Thanks to both of you I think I got it. I assumed shipping wasn’t covered. It will help in figuring out how many comics I plan on shipping vs what tier to pick.
  4. So I know a comic shop going out of business. Tons and tons of comics.,I was thinking about buying him out, already offered but he told me to come back he was trying to liquidate by having sales then Covid hit., His dad owned the shop and passed away. Do you really think there’s be a profit made in doing this? I know it would take time. take pics publish etc. I was going to continue the shop but I don’t know how profitable it would be having to pay someone vs expenses and sales.
  5. Sorry if this has been asked. I’m probably going to send in several comics to get graded. And the number of them I send in sounds like it may be more economical to do the $149 plan with $150 credit. Can someone tell me how the credit is applied? And when? Is it per comic? Per order? Thanks
  6. So it looks like there have been mixed answers I asked on whether to slab or not for desirability. But let me ask. The benefit is having a professional grade so that there can be no dispute on the price/grade. So for example if you want a Green lantern #76 at an 8.0 and you don’t want it slabbed. But you find one selling at 8.0 and you don’t want it slabbed why don’t you buy it and just take it out of the slab? It’s not like someone is charging you for it being slabbed. I’m confused.
  7. Underground comics are Awesome. Main stream “sucks” it’s like music. You Do realize there are tons and tons of music, comics and artists that are never recognized by the main stream what ever. So to bash UG comics is like bashing any art or artist. Some of the stuff is awesome.
  8. Awesome glad to see another Cherry Pop tart fan! I have every issue.
  9. The more I think about it. I don’t know if I want to chance getting Newton rings (they are unacceptable to me) for what you are paying for, and the risk of my comics getting damaged or lost. These are to me irreplaceable. We’ll see.
  10. Thanks everyone for your opinions. All my comics are bagged in mylers and boards. My goal was definitely for resell but not right away and I only planned on slabbing the ones that would be economically worth doing like some books Worth minimum about $200 or more. Just thought an “official” grade would help with the resell. I mean a 9.0 today would be a 9.0 5years from now right. And figured there would be no dispute haggling on differing opinions on what someone thinks the grade would be. I think I’m pretty good with grading but I think a comic may be a FN/VF another may think VG. I have seen the varying grading opinions here when someone asks to grade a comic. What if we did a little contest and have everyone grade a comic then send it in to CGC and see how close everyone is? Thanks for the input much appreciated. Maybe I’ll volunteer a couple of mine when I get them back from pressing.
  11. New to the site. I have been collecting since the 60’s and I am waiting on some comics being pressed as we speak. I am considering sending in several comics of value to be graded and have heard of these “newton rings” how often does this happen? How many people here have experienced this? Is it rare and what’s the percentage rate? Also is it really worth it to send in a comic to be slabbed? By the time I get my Green Lantern 76 graded it will cost me over $100. Them to grade, me ship to them and them ship back. Other than knowing a “professional” grade to sell, why would it be worth it, because other posts here say if you store it with the correct bags and boards it will last as long. Any thoughts or comments. Thanks
  12. “Casca the eternal mercenary” series. Is anyone else familiar with? Any fans? The Roman soldier who speared Christ on the cross. Christ condemns him to live as a soldier, eternally until they meet again..... Would make an awesome comic and movie.
  13. New to the site and have a couple questions. So I have been collecting comics since the 60’s and have a pretty nice collection bronze to modern. I have recently went through the collection to ID gems, comics with value etc. I have some books right now going through pressing and I am thinking about having some comics graded and slabbed. Question: what is more desirable to most people looking to purchase, slabbed or in the raw? If I wanted to sell some would it be easier / more desirable to slab? I know some advantages to slab just want to see what you guys desire if you were to purchase. Thanks. I have more questions but I’ll separate them into another thread.
