  1. Ha! I highly doubt I’m second to Derek. Right, Ewan? And whoever is is waaayyy distant!
  2. I was watching that one! You got a deal! But aren’t you gonna tell folks WHY…?!?
  3. It’s not hard to look up crime rates, which are quite low compared to previous decades. Some big cities are quite safe compared to some rural areas. Facts matter.
  4. I see Bart has the reveal! After Fawcett lost the DC case, this is the first UK issue to announce that Marvelman will be taking over. In other words, first (text) appearance of Marvelman!
  5. There’s something else, unique to the UK edition…
  6. Okay, well done! Now explain to everyone the significance of this book…
  7. You’re right, I won’t… so you’ll have to tell me!
  8. I forgot, too! I’ll have to check it out. Thanks.
  9. FWIW it’s not NUMBER 101. It’s Comics 101. Like a college course. It was a UK convention and Mick Anglo did a one-page Marvelman but which to my knowledge is the only ‘70s appearance of Marvelman.
  10. I don’t recall the source but I think someone once estimated a 5000 print run. But comics got pulped in the UK in much higher numbers—and the UK didn’t appreciate their own comics. And yeah that’s a great point re 26! And that was with MARVEL hunting it. For 25 I know of Derek’s and Ewan’s. I think Ewan’s MIGHT be the one that just sold for $12k but I’m not sure. Those are the only others I know of. I haven’t been buying as much Marvelman now that prices are taking off. I did finally get his first annual and his only ‘70s appearance: http://boysadventurecomics.blogspot.com/2020/09/comics-101.html?m=1 it’s a one-page strip by Mick Anglo. You?
  11. Agree on the former but not on the latter. UK collectors have been scouring their country for decades looking for it. So…
  12. Let us pray: Kimota! Did you see the price drop on Marvelman 25?
  13. Even if he’s not adapted, it’s a big Marvel character first appearance so who knows. I mean, what if they got it slabbed and put it up at one of the big auction houses…?
  14. Fantastic! What’s the story? And did you see the huge new Marvelman auctions on eBay?
  15. I will add that it was widely compared to Citizen Kane as a transformative work for its medium in terms of technical breakthroughs and innovation.
  16. Pretty sure the internet is filled with accolades making the case for this better than I could. Time magazine I believe named it one of the best 100 novels of the 20th century. Not graphic novels. Novels.
  17. Watchmen, without peer, obviously, and undisputedly outside the hobby. Other contenders for distant second could include Ronin, From Hell, and Moonshadow. We’re doing greatest, folks, not favorite. There’s a difference so let’s try to be discerning about the distinction between “superhero stuff I thought was cool when I was a kid” and “this might not be my cup of tea but it’s obviously thematically ambitious and aspiring to literary/artistic merit.”
