I don’t know how old you are but I don’t ever remember things being as bad as it is now.

Crime, theft, hate crimes and gun violence are so bad the authorities can’t even catch, process and lock people up fast enough in big cities.

Stealing comic books are the least of our worries and can be minimized in most cases.

It’s not hard to look up crime rates, which are quite low compared to previous decades. Some big cities are quite safe compared to some rural areas. Facts matter.

Woah that's still fairly low but exactly! Utterly agreed! Ah #26 :P

Great points! Possibly right there! But that's a great addition with #101! His only 70's appearance? :O I managed to get one of the /400's as I posted in it in the Miracleman #1 "Gold" Club thread ~

FWIW it’s not NUMBER 101. It’s Comics 101. Like a college course. It was a UK convention and Mick Anglo did a one-page Marvelman but which to my knowledge is the only ‘70s appearance of Marvelman.

Really? But was the print run in the 1000s? I just meant that I wouldn't be surprised if someone had it outside the few including Derek, but I know how awkward it was to find #26 ~ Any new additions to your collection?

I don’t recall the source but I think someone once estimated a 5000 print run. But comics got pulped in the UK in much higher numbers—and the UK didn’t appreciate their own comics. And yeah that’s a great point re 26!

And that was with MARVEL hunting it. For 25 I know of Derek’s and Ewan’s. I think Ewan’s MIGHT be the one that just sold for $12k but I’m not sure. Those are the only others I know of.

I haven’t been buying as much Marvelman now that prices are taking off. I did finally get his first annual and his only ‘70s appearance: http://boysadventurecomics.blogspot.com/2020/09/comics-101.html?m=1 it’s a one-page strip by Mick Anglo. You?

I was about to message you about that lol -- I sure did ~

The fact it's detached and in poor condition isn't helping ~ If Batman #1 (1940) is around $67k at 2.0 there's no way that issue is $50k -- overpriced ~ There' still quite a few of those issues out in the UK I'd imagine ~

Quite a few? I doubt Ewan would agree!

    Thanks :3 What? ^_^

Also I sure have and I've seen your thread -- not sure I agree with the price of #25, let alone his other MM/YM books lol

It's all speculative whether or not the character is adapted (which the seller is banking on -- no pun intended lol) ~

Even if he’s not adapted, it’s a big Marvel character first appearance so who knows.

I mean, what if they got it slabbed and put it up at one of the big auction houses…?

I was 16 when Watchmen was published and I purchased each issue from my LCS monthly.  So I was just the right age to really be into comics and understand more mature storytelling.

HOWEVER, Watchmen was about as interesting as watching paint dry.  I tried again 10 years later, and yet again when the movie was released.  My opinion has not changed, so tell me, what’s the big deal about Watchmen?  What makes it interesting, the ‘best’ mini series, etc?

Pretty sure the internet is filled with accolades making the case for this better than I could. Time magazine I believe named it one of the best 100 novels of the 20th century. Not graphic novels. Novels.

  7. Watchmen, without peer, obviously, and undisputedly outside the hobby.

Other contenders for distant second could include Ronin, From Hell, and Moonshadow.

We’re doing greatest, folks, not favorite. There’s a difference so let’s try to be discerning about the distinction between “superhero stuff I thought was cool when I was a kid” and “this might not be my cup of tea but it’s obviously thematically ambitious and aspiring to literary/artistic merit.”
