I just realized I don't know whether this Marvelman #25 is the same one that was sold last year. Maybe Ewan knows. I went back and checked and the only sale I'm aware of prior to last year's was in August 2010.
-
And then there's Marvelman #25, the first appearance of Marvelman. The exact number in existence is disputed but I don't think anyone believes there to be more than ten known to be in existence. The same seller has it up for $75,000 OBO. I'm also in discussion with him about some of the info in his description, and regardless of whether you think the price is justified or not, he makes a good case (I'm admittedly biased) for the future potential and importance of this character within Marvel. I've had a Marvelman search on ebay for well over a decade and I've only seen this issue auctioned one other time, more than ten years ago, IIRC. Fellow boardie Ewan, I believe, made a private sale of one last year. Those are the only other two I believe are known to have come to market in probably 20 years, if not more. Marvelman #25 -- $75,000 I'll be surprised if the seller gets this price, in this market. But then, crypto bros and hedge-fund bros have surprised me before. So, we'll see!
-
Well, that escalated quickly. The seller makes some slight misstatements in the description, but seems to be operating out of a lack of info rather than intent to deceive and I'm in discussion with them. Marvelman Family #1 -- $15,000

Little skeeved out here, but thanks. Just checked and the other $2-apiece books included Blood Syndicate #35, Deathstroke 15, Icon 31, Marc Spector 35, Punisher Annual 2, Punisher War Journal 6, and Static 43. Later Milestone books show up at flea markets, I find, I just can't always remember when those runs ended... -

Dammit. I wish the past would stop making things I have to buy in the future. -

LOL I knew no one would like the story. Guy had piles of almost all dreck for “$2-3” each. So I was making myself a pile, saw this and thought “That looks like ‘80s TMNT, maybe it was a catalogue insert or something.” Had nine other books, offered the guy $20. I had never heard of it before! -
Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay

The nice thing for those of us in it for the long haul is that when the speculators bail… it’s because they can’t find buyers. So it goes into dollar bins and gets beat up or gets tossed entirely. And the extant copies become more rare. Happens for every age with each bust cycle… -

I believe 41 USED to be thought of as Adams but then got dropped. Hasn’t been listed as Adams in Overstreet for years. -

Looking forward to contributing! And you have his old site’s checklist, I trust? -
It could be of interest once awareness increases.

You’re arguing children are in danger from seeing males in dresses. Not even bothering to explain the alleged causality let alone offer evidence. But when I point out the HARMLESS history here — aka actual evidence — you call my argument ridiculous. You don’t even have one. If this isn’t the place to debate it, don’t offer the false proposition in the first place. And maybe at a time when people stupid enough to believe you are targeting drag clubs, have the decency or shame to keep your ignorance to yourself. People DIED in Chuck’s state last month. Get yourself a shred of decency. And whatever your issue is with drag queens, good luck with whatever inner personal discoveries await you if you get yourself some therapy.
-
What exactly do you think happens to children who see men wearing dresses? Because in Shakespeare’s day all the parts were played by males. Maybe stop insinuating that people who are doing nothing bad are a danger to children. You’re helping to incite violence against them. Be better.

Are prices still climbing or have they eased up a bit???
JTLarsen replied to InfantTerrible's topic in Comics General
I worked at one job where employees got stock. They would cheer when the price went up… eyeing the paper value but not realizing that meant they were getting fewer shares—without realizing the paper value. If you don’t have to sell, a dip is good. Sell high, etc. -
