    Marvelman #25 (Reprint)

    • Reprints 1st appearance of Marvelman from Marvelman #25
    • Produced in very small numbers (around 5 of each Marvelman issue) by Bryon Whitworth
    • This was one of the comics created by Whitworth from Denis Gifford's copy

I’m not sure when these reprints were made. Possibly the nineties…? Anyone know for sure?

    Thanks :x

I took some scans of the books and posted them in the "Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?" section last month, but here (although the #25 might only get a 3.0 because of the spine split lol):

Wow! Congrats! What are the other issue numbers? Where’d you get em? How much? Why is the sky blue? Where do butterflies go when…

    Captain Marvel Adventures #20 and #24 :x

    • #20; 2nd mention of Marvelman (Micky Moran).
    • #24; Title change to The Marvelman. Marvelman logo appears on cover, final issue before transition to new title: Marvelman #25 (detached front cover).

Love these. I wouldn’t call it a title change but it’s definitely a transition issue. Glad you found em!

Picked this one up a while back. Likely one of the rarest AH covers. This was a program for 2005 Mid-Ohio Comic Con. However, the programs were delayed and actually didn't show up in time for the con. In order to get one, you had to have requested to have one mailed to you after it ended which I doubt many ever did.

Currently off for a pressing and grading!

I used to wonder why I virtually never see this one… till I saw the story about the con. Very tough book.

Interestingly, Dredd’s appearance in Prog 1 is unique because preview or not, it’s in the same magazine. We don’t see this with the Turtles first appearance in Gobbledygook 1. Even further from the “connection” are the ads for a character that appear in another book or preview publication like Marvel Age, FOOM (New X-Men Team), or Previews (Spawn). Dredd’s appearance in Prog 1 is special because it’s 2000 A.D. and he’s the essence of that comic magazine. Dredd was already created when Prog 1 exclusively for 2000 A.D. Tharg made sure readers and the world knew that in Prog 1.

Prog 1 is the biggest “undiscovered” Bronze Age book because of this.

Or… the mags that had Dredd’s actual first appearance are…

To wit, you haven’t discovered them yet.

I agree you can find plenty of consigned books we're listing that are posted at prices that are too high. One thing I'd caution whenever anybody mentions overpriced consignment listings is to be aware of survivorship bias. BIN listings that are priced fairly to market tend to move quickly, and once they're purchased they're not there to be seen. What's left is the accumulated unsold overpriced listings that can give a distorted view making it look like EVERYTHING is priced too high.

It's something we as a company can definitely improve on, and are working our way toward--adding mechanisms to encourage consignors to price more reasonably, and probably also worth making some changes so that items that are clearly overpriced and common are maybe not even visible on MCS or posted to eBay, since they are very unlikely to sell and create negative feelings in buyers.

Thanks for this. I think it would be a great benefit to everyone if you also added sales histories to your already amazing wealth of information about every book…

Depends on when but yeah i could easily see 90k as starting point as long as its a 1/1  Still a very visable, viable, and  bankable major popular IP unlike the aardvark. Scoobs star is probably near as big now as ever.

I wish the Flintstones was at Scoobs level, I'd be sittin' pretty

    Well this was prescient.

  8. Maybe it's me but I've been seeing more errors than ever in this year's Overstreet. It's not just blatantly missing books that should've been broken out years ago. It's literally screwing up the title alphabetization on multiple occasions.

And now I just hit Sonic Disruptors. Which are apparently worth $10 in near mint. Each.

It kind of kills me to see this. The way the book is formatted and the price guide is constructed is probably impenetrable to people new to the hobby. AND it's giving bad information. Sad. And with a year to put together each new edition (with the benefit of half a century beforehand) it's just really not excusable. Maybe the new digital service will yield enough community input and feedback to straighten things out for next year's edition. I hope.

Captain Miracle #1 self-published by Mick Anglo as Anglo Features in 1960. Precursor to Miracleman.

Found this in a long box and other than information about its history from sites like Wikipedia, I can't find any for sale or historical values.

Hard to believe it's a unicorn so anyone have any idea on relative scarcity and value?  Nothing online to base it on so all insight appreciated.  No ebay listings or priors for any issue in the short-lived run.

    TIA.

They’re quite rare but not impossible, I’d say. There’s a whole realm of Miracleman/Marvelman-adjacent titles that are undervalued that a few folks out there (ahem) are happy to pick up when opportunity strikes. Nice going!
