  1. I haven't forgotten about you! But I don't have a substantial update yet. My post towards the bottom of page 5 of this thread is still the latest info I have to provide about the general slowness and intermittent errors you all have been reporting in the last few days. I WILL say that the boards are being upgraded to a recently released version (4.2.5) about 10 minutes from now, which means a couple things to you: The boards will be unavailable for about 5 minutes during the upgrade. Some of the issues that people have been reporting lately should be resolved by this upgrade (issues when editing posts, etc) The upgrade will probably NOT solve the general boards slowness, or random errors you all have been reporting lately. But as my post on page 5 describes, we are working on solutions for this. The next release after 4.2.5 (4.2.6) is supposed to significantly improve search speed in the private messages section, especially for people with big inboxes. Hopefully 4.2.6 will become available in the next week or 2. Thanks for your continued patience. Scott
  2. The boards vendor made a fix to hopefully stop people from getting those errors. If anyone sees that error again, please post here! Thanks, Scott
  3. Thanks for the feedback everyone. For now, I'm going to focus on doing whatever I can do to help make the nasty errors that everyone's been seeing today go away. Regarding the long-term slowdown a few people have been mentioned, it's definitely something we've been monitoring and talking about how to solve. Our performance metrics suggest that the average load times have gradually worsened over the last few months. Not by a huge amount on average (less than a second), but still noticeable for a website where you load so many pages. Some features have worsened more than others. Some are mostly the same, while others show a more dramatic difference. In particular, things that involve heavy indexing (searches, using a large private message inbox, pulling up a profile page where activity displays, etc) have had some problems. Some of these problems are supposed to be improved and/or fixed entirely with upcoming boards upgrades. One such upgrade is planned for this Friday morning. We're also exploring other ways to make things better, whether that be changes in hosting, adjusting plugins, or upgrading to higher membership levels with the boards provider (among other things) I'm not exactly sure which things we'll wind up doing or when exactly they'll happen, but I wanted to at least let you know that we're aware of the problem and are working to solve it. I know that every fraction of a second of waiting time counts! Thanks, Scott
  4. Thanks for that feedback. Can either of you help me understand what you mean by "not working that great for quite a while"? Does that mean lots of errors? Slow load times? A combination of issues? etc.
  5. Hi All, I've entered a support ticket for the boards vendor to make sure they're aware of this issue. At this point, I'm not sure if this issue is specific to these boards or something wider-scale. I'll let you know as I learn more. Thanks, Scott
  6. Thanks for reporting this. This issue was introduced a couple hours ago as we were cleaning up the themes, and it's being investigated now. Hopefully it'll be resolved today. Thanks, Scott
  7. Are you saying you still can't sign in to the CGC boards via regular means? The sign in feature should be working correctly now, and the number of online members has looked normal for the last few hours. The CGC boards have a water cooler too by the way... you just need to be logged in to see it
  8. The Profile Page loads just fine for me. Are you seeing this error consistently? If so, are you seeing it for all profile pages or just your own? The profile images issue you're describing is interesting. The source image for Arch's profile banner is a extremely large, and his account has a custom positioning of that image saved. It looks like when the page first loads, it shows the top part of the image (all white), before quickly flickering to the repositioned part of the image he intends you to see. I'm guessing this would be less noticeable if his source image wasn't so big. My profile image looks fine, although I will mention that it will display slightly differently for different devices / resolutions...
  9. I think this was a temporary issue, most likely connected to troubleshooting that is being done to investigate. Are you still seeing this consistently?
  10. Darn! Sorry about that. Could you take a screenshot of what you're seeing and post it here? (or PM it to me if you'd prefer) Also: does that issue go away if you sign out and then sign back in?
  11. Hi everyone, I was very surprised to visit the boards this morning and find that the sign in function was bringing me to the wrong place, and Single Sign On between the boards and the main CGC site was not working. I entered a support ticket for the boards vendor, and they just applied a fix. We haven't done thorough testing yet, but at an initial glance it looks like we're back in business. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience! Please post here if you continue to notice any unusual system behaviors. Thanks, Scott
  12. Hi Deadone, I found your gallery here: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/gallery/album/15-deadones-vcc-test-booth/. I was able to add a strutting eyeball gif to the gallery description without any problems. I think that's the issue you were describing...? I'm sorry, but I'm not that familiar with the Gallery feature so I'm not sure if I'm understanding your issue. You might be better served by asking @Architecht about your gallery questions, because he's more familiar with galleries. Scott
  13. Hi! I've logged issues for these things mentioned in this thread. font color on tabs on profile page Cover photo look / editability when adding a new profile pic search button on mobile gif images being duplicated when copy/pasting from other images on the boards. If you notice anything else, let me know! Scott
  14. Hi everyone, Thanks for reporting the issue with the search button on small screens... we'll try to get that fixed today. This has already been noted, but join date is still accessible by hovering the avatar or username on desktop and it's available on mobile by tapping the avatar or username. For desktop, we can explore making it available without a hover, although I agree with Arch's assessment that this is low priority. I'm not sure about adding join date on mobile. Hiding non essential info/features on small screens is a normal design practice... as it helps you focus on what's most important and minimizes scrolling. Join date is interesting to look at sometimes, but I'm not sure if its important enough to justify displaying it on every post for every author, every time anyone loads any page. Keeping it one hover/click away doesn't seem unreasonable to me. For what it's worth, Join Date is just one of many fields that is hidden on mobile. For example, the custom titles, locations, and Kudo thread links don't display on phones either... What do you think? All constructive feedback welcome! Scott
  15. Hello! I've made a (temporary) adjustment that should allow you to create new private messages once again. I need to follow up with the boards vendor (Invision) for a permanent fix, but you should be good for now. Please ignore your "Member: No Posts" title for now too. I need Invision's help to understand why that group is being applied to certain individuals that it doesn't apply to. Thanks, Scott
  16. Take another look please... this issue should be fixed now!
  17. Thanks for the report. We'll try to get this fixed before the weekend.
  18. I'm using Windows 7 too, and I was able to react sadly to your post here in Firefox too. I'm also using the same theme as you. One thing you CAN'T do is react to your own posts. You also can't react to certain user groups (admins, etc).
  19. Interesting. The destination varies depending on which part of the preview I click. If I click your avatar, I'm brought to your profile. If I click anything else in the top section, I'm brought to your post. If I click the area about the thread your post is in, I'm brought to the first or last post in the thread. All of that behavior seems reasonable. It looks like the preview function is only working for links to specific posts. Links to a thread, or a specific page of a thread just show the red header
  20. Weird! I was able to choose the "sad" reply to your post. What operating system and browser / browser version are you using? (Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post publicly)
  21. Regarding the @ mentions, you may have to click the option in the little menu that loads as you're typing so that it knows which user you are trying to mention. I think someone else may have already suggested this. For example, if I type in @Marwood & I and never click the menu option, it might not be treated as a mention. Which kind of makes sense, because what if there was also a user named "Marwood"... how would it know that I wasn't trying to mention him instead of you? But if I type @Marwood & I and click the option in the menu before typing the word "and", I think it IS treated as a mention. The styling shows up immediately after clicking it in the menu, but seems to disappear after saving. Hopefully we can fix that.
  22. These are still working - I've gotten several notifications about people mentioning me recently. Yesterday's upgrade involved significant updates to the site themes (which control how everything looks on the boards). I'm guessing that something got messed up in the themes so that the @ mentions are no longer being styled distinctly, which we'll take a look at and try to fix. But I believe that the function is working correctly.
