  4. New Arrivals [5/10/2023] Our recent featured collectible, Snatch Comics #1 CGC 7.0 1st printing with off-white to white pages. Here is an opportunity to own a very rare and important comic book from the underground comix genre. Snatch #1 (Apex Novelties, 1968) was written and penciled by Robert Crumb and Clay Wilson! I wouldn't say that this book is on a lot of collector's want list, but when you think about its rarity and influence on the indie comics creators who came after, one should wonder why it isn't! The print run is debated, but I have read numbers anywhere between 250 (publisher Donahue's estimate) and 800 (historian Jay Kennedy's) for first printing. And given the antiquated printing press they used and DIY assembling, you can be sure a small fraction have survived. After receiving criticism and outrage from all sides for "deviant" content in their Zap title, Robert Crumb and Gilbert Shelton basically decided to double down with Snatch #1. Not letting the comic book authority code hold them down and taking full advantage of the counterculture movement at the time (though Crumb didn't care much for the hippies), it almost seemed like the book was a tip of the hat if you will, to their embattled predecessors at E.C. Comics. The copy available at Bedo's is a first printing at a CGC 7.0. There are currently only 20 non-restored on the CGC census. . 6. New Arrivals [4/22/2023] Here is an original art by one of the most celebrated and influential comic artists of all time and founder of Image Comics, Todd McFarlane. The piece is an interior page from the period of McFarlane's historic Amazing Spider-Man run and for which he is best known! Page 20 of Amazing Spider-Man #305 (1988) features McFarlane's iconic take of Spider-Man in action with long-time associate, the Prowler behind him. The page has an image area of 10" x 15". . 7. Before I decided to become a full-time collectibles dealer, I was a software engineer for nearly 20 years working with some of the smartest, creative people I've ever met, together doing some amazing things. So I'm really taken back by your comment and a tiny bit offended. I would be interested to know where you worked and in what department(s). Then again, I wouldn't want to clutter up this thread. Clearly, some of the dealers/auction houses already mentioned have hired highly competent developers who have helped to give their employer a competitive advantage.
  8. In my opinion, reececomics.com is the best comic dealer site right now! Good work on the new release.
  9. New Arrivals [2/10/2023] Our latest featured collectible is widely regarded as one of the most important comic books of all time, All Star Comics #3! This Golden Age comic book was published in Winter 1940 by All-American Publications (modern-day DC Comics) and introduced the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America. The team's roster was composed of previously introduced characters: Flash, Hawkman, Hour Man, Spectre, Sandman, Green Lantern, The Atom, Doctor Fate, and Johnny Thunder. Arguably more important than the first appearance of the JSA, is that All Star Comics #3 is the beginnings of what we now know as the DC Universe. A highly sought after comic book in any grade by serious collectors and classified as an investment collectible, All Star Comics #3 is a rarity, with only 60 non-restored copies registered with CGC. The copy for sale at Bedo's is a CGC 3.0 with off-white pages. The cover has retained its vibrant original colors! . 12. New Arrivals [1/7/2023] Our recent featured comic book is one that I am absolutely thrilled to share with you and consider it a privilege to offer. Marvel Mystery Comics #9 is indeed a holy grail to the majority of comic book collectors with the added benefit that it has historical significance in the context of the Marvel franchise. This is an incredibly scarce comic book from the golden age and considered by many collectors to feature one of the greatest comic covers of all time. Currently, there are 40 universal copies reported in the CGC census. A copy of MMC #9, let alone certified graded, comes to market only once or twice a year About its significance. This is pretty close to ground-zero for the concept of a Marvel Universe as it gets. Issue 9 is part 3 in a 4-part story arc (Human Torch gets name dropped on the last page of #7) that establishes the very first superhero shared universe. From that point forward, crossovers became more common place - all the spectacular crossovers and story tie-ins during the Silver Age up to the Marvel Cinematic Universe trace back to Marvel Mystery #7-10. DC would do the same in Winter of 1940 with All Star Comics #3 by uniting several characters to form the Justice Society of America. And what about that cover?! In typical Alex Schomburg fashion, it is absolutely epic! Battling superheroes (first time on a cover), Sub-Mariner effortlessly crushing steel, cops rushing to the scene, a derailing train... Incidentally, Marvel Mystery Comics #9 precedes Captain America Comics #1 by six months! The copy for sale at Bedo's is a CGC 4.0 with cream to off-white pages. It is an exceptional copy with vibrant colors on the front cover and presents very well for its grade - no spine splits, stains, or chews. 16. @marvelmaniac gave a great response, so no need to repeat! I'll just say that I'm not a big fan of services that provide raw comic book FMV - no one right now has figured out an approach that produces reliable and statistically valid results. HOWEVER, I am following Overstreet very closely with their new Access app that they launched this year and presented at SDCC. If there's any company that has the potential to do it right, with their resources and corporate backing, it is Overstreet. For the FMV info, they charge from $3/month.
  17. Regarding your comments that I bold typed, for the most part, I think you're right! Having worked in corporate hell long enough (Warner Bros. included), I think I know how this works. So I'll say this from experience... from conception to launch, large projects move at a very slow pace with millions poured into them and that are mired in politics up and down the hierarchy chain. At some point during the project, the stakeholders, who at most have a surface level understanding of the technology, come to realize NFTs are not the future. BUT...it's a moving train and they figure it's best to see it through to the end. They'll write off the losses, maybe also offset those losses with downsizing, err.. I mean "rightsizing", and deal with the short-term bad publicity. Then again I could be way off and DC's NFT project becomes a disrupter in the collectibles space.
  18. Given what the comic books went for, I would say absolutely provenance played a big part in the sale of those. I am not so sure about the OA, hard to say. And I wasn't surprised by the OA results. By the way, I got to see many of the pieces in person at the Beverly Hills preview room a couple weeks ago. That was a real treat. While there, I met J. Michael Straczynski, who as many are aware, was a good friend of Ellison and served as his estate executor.
  19. Yeah I can see how CGC recognizing newsstand could motivate MCS to get with the program (so to speak). Obviously I'm in no position to speak for them, but by experience I know that this sort of thing could take a while to rollout.
  20. I see the benefit of a newsstand indicator for both MCS and buyers, but adding that property to comic books where applicable is no small feat. It requires a proper cost/benefit analysis. To put it into perspective, seeing that the online store is database driven, one or more table fields have to be introduced and queried for. Then the UI has to be updated to display the indicator where appropriate (eg. title in search results, on product page, etc.). Plus visitors might want to filter their search by 'newsstand' which means modifying the search functionality - a critical component business might be very hesitant to touch at all. Finally, assuming business doesn't test new development in production, then you add all the QA work that goes with it. MCS has to be sure all the time and money poured into the project is quantifiably worth it.
