Id like to hear CGCs reasoning for not following their own guide to grading with the X-Men 9.9 then. Should be interesting.

I see 2 defects. A mis-wrap and a dent from the staple under the cover. The mis-wrap is a manufacturing defect. The dent is a handling defect. = 9.8

To me, NM is off the rack condition = 9.4 What you see on this cover is probably common with that book and most likely from being boxed, shipped and then unboxed/shelved. Look at all the slabbed copies that you can find and do some research.

Ill never buy a graded book with a sig that wasnt witnessed.

Well, the dude on Pawn Stars authenticates sigs for Rick but he didnt witness them being signed.

So CGC is acquiring the authenticating team? And when they all eventually leave to start their own company? CGC gonna train people to authenticate sigs? Frightening.

Kinda looks like a slight bend in the pics though...above the "d" in "and"...could be lighting I guess. It probably didnt get pressed and maybe had the type of bend only the expert eye can catch.

Hey, when I was a kid in the 80s my comic shop in Providence, R.I. was called Excalibur. Well, Starship Excalibur to be exact but its still cool to see another shop called Excalibur...even if it is in Canada.

My oldest comics are from 1979/80 and I have all my books in current size bags/boards. They fit perfectly, slide right in - right out...and look fantastic. Even the double sized books fit in current bags.

Yeah but who really cares if an issue of Spectacular Spider Man is a 9.6, 9.8 0r 9.9?

Should be a 9.8 because 9.8s are not perfect. Thats why we have 9.9s and 10s...right?

Id probably pay double the price of a current omnibus but im guessing out loud.

I just did a reholder on a 9.8 signed book and it was no problem at all...came back to me perfect. So if you dont like the old slab, send it in for a nice crispy new one. Im not a CGC historian but grading was probably more strict in 2004. You could even crack it out and resubmit it for a press and grading and you may get a 9.9 ! Theyre giving them out more frequently these days.

That chart says 9.4s shouldnt have color breaking spine stress lines. I have a CGC 9.8 with a color break ...and more than a few CGC 9.6s and 9.4s with multiple color breaks.

Is it just yellow ink?

I was standing in front of the "New Arrivals" rack the other day and I honestly dont understand why anyone would spend money on what is being put out these days. #1 issues everywhere...terrible artwork...thin books...$4 cover prices Older collectors trash the 90s era and I often wonder what they think about todays offerings. That aside. I saw a Spawn run (1 - 100) sell at auction for damn near $800 on Ebay this weekend. $8 a book for what old school collectors call modern dreck? Comic collecting isnt going away. Comic production may though.

Not the line itself, but Ive noticed that on most copies there seems to be what looks like a tear along that white line. Check out some copies on Ebay and youll see what im saying.

Quick question. Im shopping around for a nice UXM 130 and ive noticed that most copies have a weird decect/tear at the top of the font cover, along the white line of cover art. Is it a tear from being pulled during manufacturing?...kind of like the bottom of most copies of ASM 361? Not all copies have it but Im seeing many high grade copies that do. Thanks.

It didnt take too long to unlock but It did lock again after 8 or 10 more searches. It is what it is, i guess. I hate having to stop when im in research mode!
