I have books that I submitted for a in house signing. They needed to be recieved before September 23, and were recieved on September 8th. They have said scheduled for grading since mid September. I'm fine with that, I don't mind waiting. I just want to know if they have been signed and remarqued already, or not. I wish CGC would have a status for in house signings that explains where the books in are in the signing process instead of just the grading process.

Any experience with Stelfreeze at cons?
babsrocks31 replied to babsrocks31's topic in Original Comic Art
I'm late updating this but thanks to everyone for your experiences and tips. Here are the pieces I got from Brian, as well as a sketch cover Cary Nord did. The Batgirl head sketch was a free one Brian did as a warmup since I was first in his line. -

Thank you! Do you recall if he has a card reader? I'm not sure if he would accept Canadian cash. We have almost always had Canadian artists in the past. -
Hey folks, you have been so helpful to me with numerous things as I grow from a beginner hobbyist to a not quite intermediate collector. My smallish Canadian city (Victoria) is getting Brian Stelfreeze at our relatively new con. We have never gotten an American artist of this magnitude before (and Cary Nord will also be there this year). I'd like to check out Brian's table and see about some art or sketches, but I have absolutely no idea what to expect. I know some artists offer quick free sketches, others offer priced sketches or discounts on blank cover pieces, and some will even do full priced commissions, while others will only sell prints... and all have their own preferences for interacting with readers. We've even had some artists charge more for being at our smaller con... Has anyone been to Brian's table before at a show before? What was it like? Any insight is greatly appreciated. And hey, have an awesome day!

Any experience with Black Diamond Comic Art?
babsrocks31 replied to babsrocks31's topic in Original Comic Art
Just an update on this: Miles ended up getting the order processed and was very pleasant. Unfortunately, I had asked for my page to get remarked and was very clear that the remark be of batgirl (since the page features Barbara Gordon in her civies), but the remark added onto my page was Nightwing. I'm trying to decide what to do about this... I think I'll ask for either my remark fee back, or a seperate headsketch of batgirl. And I'll be happy with whichever of the two is easier for them/the artist. -
I am looking to buy a page or other art by Mark Bagley that features MJ... I'm not looking for covers or anything of overly high value... My budget is in the $150 - $350usd range. If anyone has anything you are looking to move, please hit me up... And have a great day!

Thanks everyone. Miles is who I've been dealing. Very polite and seems great, just not responding at the moment (probably because it isn't a major purchase). I'll reach out again in early July... -
This is a relatively new site/dealers (last few years) that rep a handful of higher tier modern artists such as Javi Fernandez and Bruno Redondo, among many others. Their artists work in traditional, digital, and both. I have a commission from them, but it's not late at all, and I also contacted them about buying a page (artist's proof) but requested it be remarked since the digital panel has one panel that is all white... They said no problem but the artist would not be able to do so until July sometime, well that's also no problem for me, but they have not responded to a few emails asking them how to pay. Do they want to charge extra for the Remark or should I just check out with the page? I'm thinking of just following up in early July, but figured i'd see if anyone here has bought from them before and has any idea if this lack of communication is normal or not.

I find them very interesting, but I do think they ought to cost slightly less than a similar published version. Every once in a while I'll see someone sort of sneakily selling an unpublished piece as if it's from the published issue, trying to rake in the $$$. I don't dig that. But unpublished pages are unique in their own right, and if they are a tad cheaper then they can be a fun part of any collection. As for sketches and designs that are done by the artist of a series to actually practice and flesh out his take on the character... I think those are also super interesting, if less valuable

Visible lines that should be hidden? Does it bug you?
babsrocks31 replied to babsrocks31's topic in Original Comic Art
@aaronnear@Will_K For reference, the printed version has the glasses more or less the same. Maybe slightly fainter, if at all. I agree, if it is part of the process then I don't mind seeing it. I did find it slightly odd when reading the book, though. -
What are your thoughts on art that doesn't bother to conceal or "erase" lines that would not be visible in reality? I see this mostly in digital art, but on occassion with pencils too. I was reading Nightwing with art by Bruno Redondo and got to thinking about this. For example, look at Barbara's glasses behind her hair in the top panel of this page. How much does this take you 'out' of the image, if at all?

I have absolutely loved almost all of the of the examples you've posted and have actually found newfound appreciation for some modern artists via your posts, but Fernando Pasarin's art is incredibly hit and miss in my opinion. There are a few issues of that Batgirl run where his art pretty much ruins the book for me. -
Thoughts on modern comic artist? Your fav?
babsrocks31 replied to Laszlo the Mudjar's topic in Original Comic Art
It blows my mind no one has mentioned Alvaro Martinez. I know he has only taken off the last few years, but he is the real deal... By far the best modern artist to tackle Zatanna. -
I'm looking to buy a page, sketch or commission by Mark Bagley that depicts MJ. There are pages out there for $90 that just are really dull, and pages sitting around not selling at $400 to $600. I'm interested in something around the middle, or even a sketch or commission being resold. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg because I don't need Spidey or other major characters featured, but I also don't want a really dull interior page with MJ in one panel sort of thing, no matter how cheap it is.

This is a great post, as is the one by the person you are conversing with. It's refreshing to see posters on any forum having this sort of discussion. But what I like about your post is that it highlights an even lesser discussed avenue for collecting... lets call it the "comparison" approach, and that is the desire to obtain different styles or takes on a character, series, or book (you get the drift) and sort of compare/organize them. For example, I am a huge Barbara Gordon fan. Many great artists have drawn Babs, and which one I want displayed on my wall gets rotated depending on my current preference, but I sure do love having so many iterations of the character at my disposal. If they were all the same it wouldn't be nearly as much fun for me. Being able to compare different approaches towards the character is what keeps things interesting, whether that approach is influenced by the artist, the writer, or even social culture like your wonder woman example. Having iterations that are valuable is a huge bonus, but if that is THE primary focus I'd argue that is closer to investing than collecting. The two can overlap for sure, but I think many people could do well to remember they are not the same thing. Anyway, to keep things relevant... if Liefeld ever wants to learn how to draw feet he could do worse than studying Mike Perkins. -

Some great examples here. All of them, really. Williams' Batwoman run was incredible and is severely underrated due to the polarizing lead (I'm a fan, though).
