  1. my impression was that the money sort of gets kept in escrow and that spencer/george does not start until payment is received................ and that the money gets held and only released if you are satisfied with the piece. i know he didn't start my commission until after he was paid.
  2. really, how much A+ is out there AND available? a lot of stuff that i saw at the show was priced at A+ levels but not A+ in quality.
  3. Hi folks, An unexpected bill has come up and I am making this available for sale- Avengers 99 page 18 by Barry Windsor Smith and Tom Sutton. The two Olympians Kratos and Bia prepare to drag an amnesia-stricken Hercules back to Olympus over a fallen Cap and Iron Man and Hawkeye, Rick Jones and the Scarlet Witch do their best to stop them. This one is 11K. I will take papal and will split the fees and the shipping with the buyer. There is a small piece missing, very top center (as shown in the scan), as I purchased it from Mike Burkey but this does NOT affect the art........ Signed "Barry Smith". This one is 11K. PM me thru here or my CAF gallery. http://cafurl.com?i=148
  4. that is from the 1982 Silver Surfer one shot, page 30 by John Byrne/Tom Palmer.
  5. I don't feel that those 2 pages were strong enough to do (significantly) better even if they were in an auction alone. good pages, but not very good or great. i think they went for around market- no real bargain to be had there.
  6. I thought that the BWS MCP pages were around market- they were good pages but not "A list" pages. I was more surprised at the price of the Rune pages.
  7. thanks a lot john!... and thanks for the interview, richard! i had a chance to meet a few of the original art collectors while in singapore, including richard , and had a great time. lots of knowledgeable collectors out there in Asia.
  8. I have to laugh at things that are marked as "sold" that were never on the website to begin with.
  9. It was a year of highs and lows for me but art-wise, I did okay. Here are my five- very hard to choose just 5, let me tell you! 1- Avengers 100 page 2- (Barry Windsor Smith): This was a grail book for me as a kid- back in the 1980s, it was a bit more difficult getting back issues where i lived. I'm glad my Aunt was finally able to track it down for me! The first 6 pages of this book are sheer magic as they are all BWS. http://www.comicartfans.com/LowryPiece.asp?Piece=9336 2- Avengers 195 cover (George Perez and Dan Green): From the Task Master Trilogy and with more ants a can of Raid can handle, here Ant Man and Yellow Jacket are off to save the Wasp. Typical insane Perez detail. http://www.comicartfans.com/LowryPiece.asp?Piece=9337 3- Dr Strange 1 page 2 (Frank Brunner and Giordano): From the 1st book my brother ever bought. What a great time to start. After the rather stressful and trippy Siseneg storyline, Clea attempts to provide some levity for a very serious Doc. Giordano's inks look lovely on Brunner's pencils. http://www.comicartfans.com/LowryPiece.asp?Piece=9339 4- New Teen Titans 4 pages 2 + 3 DPS (George Perez and Romeo Tanghal)- This was the book that made me decide to give DC a change and the Teen Titans was the first DC title added to my pull list at my local comics shop. I followed Perez over from Marvel and never looked back and was able to enjoy many, many fine stories involving the DC stable of characters. http://www.comicartfans.com/LowryPiece.asp?Piece=9340 5. JLA/Avengers page 5 unpublished (George Perez pencils): From the infamous unpublished book- Ah, what might have been. I enjoyed the book that was eventually published some 20 years later but I would have loved to have seen this as it was intended. My first page from this book with Avengers on it! http://www.comicartfans.com/LowryPiece.asp?Piece=9338
  10. i would disagree with that- the ebay one says "red version"- maybe it is just an unused, non-published version of what eventually became the cover?
  11. it really is an outstanding page but i would not say 16k qualifies as a deal.
  12. mitch used to rep him- probably could get a hold of him for you.
  13. I agree with that thinking. It is not like the auction just pops up. People have ample time to prepare where they are going to be when the auction ends.
  14. and Paul Gulacy doing Sibyl Channing channeling the Black Widow in Black Diamond 2 (1982) around the time of the famed SQP portfolio: 1.5k
  15. From around the same time period- Avengers 73 with Frank Giacoia making a rare penciling turn: 1.5k
  16. Hi folks, a few things that may interest some of you- the new additions are: Captain America 116- The Avengers versus........... Cap? Gene Colan and Joe Sinnott greatness! 3k Some of the prices in my For Sale gallery here have been reduced: http://cafurl.com?i=548
  17. june 30th, 2016 most of the bws lots were either not bid upon or received lukewarm interest at at best.
  18. you did not think 15k+ for the weapon x panel page was strong? how about the 3k+ for the rune cover with nothing on it?
  19. bws on fire here- couldn't give it any of it away last year on profiles.
  20. p craig russell is quite active on facebook- ask him- he might recollect.
  21. I really enjoyed his work on the Ultimates, as well as the Cap reborn story-
