  1. I do the exact same thing. Monday at lunch I watch the latest Game of Thrones episode and I watch Preacher Monday evening when I get home. I look at them as entirely different types of fun. GOT is obviously way more enjoyable but Preacher still has been a fun show so far. Me too. Throw Outcast into that list as well. I love all three, but they're really incomparable. Of course, GOT has been kind of blowing everything else away in the OMG category for many years. Half the time I can't keep all the storylines straight, but that doesn't make it any less awesome.
  2. It's sort of weird, but I wasn't overly enthused with what I saw the first time around. I ended up watching it a couple of more times and now I'm in love with the show. I'm pretty confident this will only get better with time and become a juggernaut of a series.
  3. Yeah, the 1975 movie was good for an 11 year old Doc Savage fan. I was 7 when it came out, and loved it simply for the fact that all of the characters were actually in the movie and the Doc logo from the Bantam paperbacks was all over everything (first shows up on the snowmobile he's riding to the Fortress of Solitude). Plus, they (basically) got the story right from the first Doc adventure. Unfortunately, there is not much by the way of accurate depictions of the original stories and pulps in ANY medium. I'd love to see an actual period piece movie that was identical to the minutest of details, but I'm not sure that they'd be able to put enough butts in the seats to justify how much the budget would need to be to pull that off. And that's not even figuring out who to cast.
  4. Man, I love Doc Savage and have for almost forty years after my dad got me the Golden Press series of hardback books when I was six. I've since completed my Bantam set and have read all of them. Happy they are trying another feature film and I love The Rock, but just do not see this as a good fit AT ALL. Doc is a brilliant, smart, serious, no-nonsense guy without a speck of humor in his character makeup. I'm struggling to think of one example in The Rock's body of work where he played that type of guy. I just don't think this character is in his range. I'm pretty bummed about this casting, honestly. Despite being fairly faithful to the source material (the campyness aside) the George Pal film was pretty awful. Hopefully they won't repeat that tradition.
  5. The finale was kind of terrible. I agree with all of this (it's almost like you read my mind)...but I still want to like the show. Felicity either has to go or turn evil or something because her character as it is currently being portrayed is as annoying as hell. I find myself feeling the same way about her that I have been feeling about Ray Palmer in Legends. I.E.: not minding if they got hit by any of the number of stray weapons that fly around in those two shows. Arrow can still be good (hell, it could be great), but the writers/producers/show runner(s) are really going to need to step it up next season.
  6. That would be fantastic. Cisco's evil doppleganger was cool too, maybe they could resurrect him while they're at it. I loved the finale, especially Shipp in the costume at the end...brought back lots of memories of watching the first series. After the crud-fest of a mess that was the Arrow finale, this was miles better. Next year should be crazy.
  7. Me too. I think it sort of gets lost in the shuffle with the DC Superheroes TV juggernaut that is The CW. Gotham has a ton of potential (providing they don't let Fish Mooney drag it down again).
  8. I'm surprised there haven't been any comments on the finale. While this show has its problems, I've really grown to like it. I'm not sure if that's because it's been so crazy or despite that, but I always enjoy watching it. I'm really intrigued as to how they will progress Bruce's character as he gets older. If you go back and re-watch the first season, he has aged considerably in this short time span.
  9. Only thing I could think of was Jocasta, but I'm sure that's wrong. It's an AI character, right? Glad they didn't kill off Fitz or Simmons.
  10. Great episode, I can't wait to see what they do next season. I thought they screwed up killing the kid everyone thought was going to be everyone's favorite clown prince of crime, but perhaps not
  11. I've really grown to like this show, despite a few quibbles. Loved the finale...can't wait until it comes back next year. I really hope they delve into hell more but am guessing they probably won't do that very much.
  12. This guy's acting is what's keeping me watching the series the most. Second-most is the guy playing Riddler's acting. The guy playing Gordon is third. Me too. In the same order (though Nigma is giving Penguin a run for his money as far as being interesting goes). Loved Paul Reubens as dad, thought that was a perfect casting. Turns out that Hugo's method of brainwashing isn't all that effective when some psychos kill your dad right under your nose. Now let's see what happens to Barbara.
  13. Minor quibble, but I believe he said impeccable rather than imbecile. Still loving this show, though...and am curious where they plan to take it. Great news about the renewal!
  14. I enjoyed it too, but it really bugged me that Hex's clothes looked like they were straight out of the dry cleaners. Not a speck of dirt or wear that I could see, which isn't all that realistic for a town in the old west in the 1870's. But whatevs, I guess.
  15. Ugh. That title card looks like something a beginning Photoshop student would make. Not a fan. Really looking forward to the movie, however. I have a really good feeling that they'll finally (mostly) get Spidey right.
  16. Anyone watch the premiere last night? I have high hopes for this show. Unlike last year, I think that there is some potential in some of these characters once the writers flesh them out. I'm a little nervous about it not being based on Kirkman's stories, but that could be a positive if they don't screw it up because they won't feel tied to the books and can do whatever the hell they want.
  17. I had a lot of problems with this show, but am watching it for the second time through and like it a lot better than I remember the first time around. It's still not perfect and there are glaring problems, but I'm looking forward to the second season. I thought I remembered hearing that someone from the Flight 462 mini episodes would be added as a regular cast member. I'm guessing it'll be the chick. Maybe the kid. If that actually happens, that is.
  18. I think there may be some misunderstanding between the two factions where one of the groups had problems with the first half of the movie and the other half did not. I'd just like to clarify my position for those that liked the first half. I didn't particularly care for the first half of the movie. The problems I had with it had nothing to do with 'being confused' or 'not understanding' the plot points or 'needing to be spoonfed'. I understood what was happening and why for the most part (and the parts I did not understand, I could infer). No, the problem I had with it was that it felt very disjointed and awkward. I didn't count them, but it felt like there were a million 30 second scenes and they just kept jumping from one to the other at a rapid-fire pace. I didn't find it all that confusing, I found it annoying. I thought that the first half could have been paced a lot better and would have flowed a lot more smoothly if it had been edited better. Again though, I'm sure the extended version will help with this problem. If that was addressed, I'd probably end up loving the movie much like I did with the extended Watchmen cut.
  19. That was a great episode...you can tell they had fun shooting it. I think I smiled through the entire hour
  20. Just got back from watching. I thought it was good, not great. And the problems I had with the movie aren't the problems I was anticipating. I'd probably give it 6/10. I love Cavill's Superman. I actually really liked Affleck as Bats. Yeah, I know. Shocked the hell out of me too. Wonder Woman was fantastic (echoing pretty much what everyone else has been saying). I thought the last half of the movie was very good, approaching excellent. The story was good, pretty much as expected. About halfway through the movie I was about ready to throw in the towel and admit that it sucked...because at that point it was a hot, disjointed mess, in my opinion. Too many cuts and short scenes and confusion. I thought the first half was overall just not very good (at best). Was that the Flash in the early dream sequence? I couldn't tell and have no idea what he was saying to Bruce Wayne. mess like that bugs the hell out of me. But then when they actually got into it, things picked up and by the end I was satisfied and I'm thinking that their next time out is going to be a lot better. Unless they are complete insufficiently_thoughtful_persons, they'll learn what not to do for the JLA and other solo movies. I think this movie might've been overly ambitious....and perhaps all that cut footage that will be on the uncut DVD will make the whole production feel a lot less fragmented. And here I was thinking I was the only one that saw Wonder Woman's little grin after getting knocked on her . Best scene of the movie!
  21. Just finished up the finale. I don't want to spoil anything, but will say that I thought it was exceptional. There's a lot going on in that last episode and I wasn't all that sure they'd be able to tie most of it up, but damned if they didn't do it. Love these Netflix shows but it's always over too quickly.
  22. I get that. I went back and looked and Frank was credited only for 'creating Elektra'. But we wouldn't have this (exact) TV show if there had been no Frank Miller. It probably wouldn't even remotely resemble what we are watching today. Miller didn't 'shape' this story. He (basically) wrote it. Stick, Elektra, The Hand, DD fighting ninjas with an arrow sticking out of his body. Most of the look and feel of the show started with Miller in the books.
  23. Maybe I just missed it, but how is it that Frank Miller did not get prominent creator attribution for this series (or at least this season). As most of you know, much of this material is lifted right from his first DD run. I know Lee and Everett are a big part of the credits...it just seems to me that Frank should be acknowledged as much as those two considering the show lifts giant chunks directly from his source material.
  24. Not for nothing, but that logo is very underwhelming.
