About Me

  1. Today, December 3rd, is Nostalgic Investments’ Comic Art NEW ART FRIDAYS! Featured Artists: Jack Kirby Milo Manara Jim Starlin Featured Page: Thor #139 p8 by Jack Kirby This page really has a lot going on if you read it carefully. Ulik the Troll, and Thor’s main nemesis, is wielding both his Mallet and Mighty Mjolnir, which he captured from Thor in the last issue. Thor, of course, came back and reclaimed it in the last panel. Considering we just had a Thor splash sell for $100,000 this seems very reasonable. I’ve been seeing some Thor small sized pages sell for $15,000 to $20,000. NEW ART FRIDAYS! update this week includes art from Alan Davis, John Byrne, Carmine Infantino, Milo Manara, Jack Kirby, Jim Starlin, Andrew Wilman, Gil Kane, Don Newton, Ken Lashley, and Rich Buckler! Eternals #5 p11 by Jack Kirby Excalibur #44 p1 by Alan Davis Byrne Black Canary Robin Commission Daredevil #152 p7 by Carmine Infantino Genius #7 p26 by Milo Manara Strange Adventures #2 Cover by Jim Starlin Thor #139 p8 by Jack Kirby Venom: Carnage Unleash #4 p30 by Andrew Wildman Warlock #1 p26 by Gil Kane Batman #371 p18 by Don Newton Excalibur #85 p24 by Ken Lashley Saga of the Sub-Mariner #7 p27 by Rich Buckler See all these New Art Fridays! pages at www.nostalgicinvestments.com/fridays and hundreds of comic art pages at www.nostalgicinvestments.com/comic-art Payment plans and trades are always available.
  2. Today, October 22nd, is Nostalgic Investments’ Comic Art NEW ART FRIDAYS! Featured Artists: Jack Kirby George Perez Nick Cardy Featured Page: Wonder Woman V4 #48 p5 (Splash) by David Finch This may be one of the best Wonder Woman action splashes that you could hope to own. David Finch has really come into his own and has garnered a huge following for his art. NEW ART FRIDAYS! update this week includes art from Herb Trimpe, John Byrne, David Finch, Nick Cardy, Jack Kirby, Moe Marcus, George Perez, Bart Sears, and Gene Colan! 7. Today, June 21st, is Nostalgic Investments Comic Art’s SPOTLIGHT MONDAYS! SPOTLIGHT MONDAYS! - Every Monday we will spotlight a special piece of art for your collecting pleasure. Ditko Magic Eerie Yearbook 1970 p30 Splash by Steve Ditko Wash pages are usually special in that they add depth and texture to an art page. Having it drawn by Ditko makes it more special. These splashes don’t come around often. If it was two years earlier and Spider-Man, this splash would be selling in the $250,000-$500,000 price range. So this page is clearly a great value. The equivalent Wrightson splash would be two to three times more for even more perspective. 8. Hello, My name is Philippe and I own and operate Philippe Labaune Gallery in NYC. We showcase original comic art by 20th and 21st century artists. Our inaugural exhibition was a homage to Katsuhiro Otomo and showcased almost 30 international artists creating works paying tribute to Otomo's "Akira". Opening July 1st, the gallery will be exhibiting drawings by Dave McKean from his 2012 graphic novel Black Dog: The Dreams of Paul Nash. In addition to rotating exhibitions I also have available works by: Moebius, Philippe Druillet, Glenn Fabry, Geof Darrow, Tim Lane, among others. I am attaching a wonderful triptych that I currently have available by the master himself Moebius, and a spectacular Glenn Fabry from Batman Judge Dredd: Die Laughing Issue #1. Please feel free to visit my website philippelabaune.com or our instagram @philippe.labaune.gallery It is wonderful to find this forum and meet fellow comic art fans! Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. -Philippe

Featured Artists: Michael Golden Herb Trimpe Jim Aparo Featured Page: Fantastic Four #256 p7 (Large Art) by John Byrne These large art Byrne pages look so good in person. 10. Today, June 14th, is Nostalgic Investments Comic Art’s SPOTLIGHT MONDAYS! SPOTLIGHT MONDAYS! - Every Monday we will spotlight a special piece of art for your collecting pleasure. Gil Kane at his Best Marvel Team-Up #26 Cover Pencils: Gil Kane I’m sure I’ve said this before, but most collectors are big fans of Marvel covers that have more than one hero. Because of Chris Hemsworth, Thor has become one of the most popular heroes in the world. The cinematic and collecting world loves him. The Human Torch is just at the start of his worldwide popularity now that Marvel is about to launch the Fantastic Four movies in their next movie phase. Considering that Sal Buscema covers are now $50,000- $100,000, this Gil Kane action cover seems very reasonable. 12. Today, May 17th, is Nostalgic Investments Comic Art’s SPOTLIGHT MONDAYS! SPOTLIGHT MONDAYS! - Every Monday we will spotlight a special piece of art for your collecting pleasure. Hulk and Alpha Flight Byrne Cover Alpha Flight #28 Cover by John Byrne What makes this cover truly special is that it’s both a Byrne Alpha Flight cover and a Byrne Hulk cover. You also get the added bonus of having a rare appearance of the Beyonder. Those who read comics in the 80’s will remember this character. This is an example of how to put the price of this cover in perspective: the $38,000 is what you would pay for a pretty good, but not great, Byrne X-men page. Featured Artists: Jim Aparo Nick Cardy John Romita, Jr. Featured Page: Marvel’s Greatest Comics #31 Cover (Stat) by Jack Kirby Here’s the cover that was used for Marvel’s Greatest Comics 31. It’s a stat cover because the image was taken from FF 39. If the original art to the FF 39 cover ever came to market, it would sell for north of $700,000. Unfortunately, it probably doesn’t exist, so this is the closest that any collector will get to enjoying this historic cover - though you will undoubtedly enjoy the heck out of it once you hang it up. 14. Today, May 10th, is Nostalgic Investments Comic Art’s SPOTLIGHT MONDAYS! SPOTLIGHT MONDAYS! - Every Monday we will spotlight a special piece of art for your collecting pleasure. This Week: Captain America spread by Kirby Captain America #199 p2-3 (Spread)(Signed) by Jack Kirby There aren’t many things better in our collectible than a Jack Kirby double page spread. This Cap and Falcon spread is wall to wall action. Cap may very well be the single greatest character that Kirby ever created. Captain America and Kirby traversed from the Golden Age of comics (1941) to the Silver Age (1960’s) to 1976 when Kirby came back to Marvel and drew Captain America issue 193. These Kirby double page spreads are nearly impossible to find, especially one featuring Cap, and the now exceedingly popular Falcon.
