About Me

  1. I am considering submitting my Spiderman #11 2.0 CBCS signed by Stan Lee. The book looks very fragile and I'd like to get some people's opinions on whether I should clean or press it before submitting? Also, the big question, will the 2.0 grade hold up? Let me know your opinions and advice. Appreciate the help!
  2. I submitted my Daredevil #158 to the recent Frank Miller signing. When I got the book back I was surprised to see it came back a 7.5, but then I looked at it and was shocked to see the bottom right corner was folded up and pressed. The book was not in that condition when it was sent in for pressing, signing and grading. I have both photo and video evidence of the before and CGC just emailed me back saying it could have happened in transit and that graders base the grade on the book they receive. Totally understand that, but the book was pressed and signed before grading. Also, shipping damage wouldn't fold only the corner of the cover up, it would have bent the whole book. I think they are just trying to get out of responsibility. Thoughts? Attached is the scan of the book I sent in and the book now in the case.
  3. Hi all, completely new here. Looking to submit some of my books from the 90s, and just came across a mind boggling error from the store my mother used to pick then up from. The store would hold issues and give a 10 % discount. Apparently they wrote my last name and 10% on tape with a ballpoint pen and now that I'm examining, LEFT AN IMPRESSION ON THE BOOK(s) (two so far)! Is this something that "pressing" would help with? Is this something that would take a 9 point something and knock it down to 8 or lower? Make it not worth grading/encapsulating?
  4. I have a higher value modern book that is pretty flawless except the bottom staple prongs overlap and it has created a small dimple in the pages and front cover. I want to “uncross” the staple before sending it to try and get it pressed out, but don’t want to do anything that would be considered restoration. Does anyone know if that would be considered restoration or if I could send it in for a regular (not quick) press and keep my fingers crossed. Thanks!!
  5. Evening - I've got a 9.6 Ms Marvel #1, and wondering if it has defects which can be addressed and resubmitted for a potential 9.8. Alas there are no grader's notes. The thing that is of interest is the back cover tiny corner fold, which I think can be pressed out? The only other potential detracting features are the 2 spine corners on the front - the bottom is a little rounded with minimal colour loss. The top corner looks to be a bindery issue? In your opinion, woud you press out the corner fold on the back and resubmit, or are the other issues going to negate this? Thanks
  6. Good afternoon. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with posters. GCG grades posters but very little is known. Has anyone had experience with pressing their posters prior to grading? I'm told that a call into CGC resulted in the CGC person not even knowing that pressing of posters was done. It all seems to be a mystery. Anything you can add is appreciated.
  7. Hi all- Apologize for the potentially obvious question here... but I do not seem to be able to find any topics or forums here dedicated to concert poster grading. My specific questions relate to poster PRESSING, but not sure where to post this. The board appear to be primarily about comics, since poster grading is relatively new. Anyway, logged a call in to CGC today to ask a few questions about pressing, and while the customer service person was VERY friendly and helpful, she did not even know that CSS offered pressing for concert posters! That gave me some pause, because my inquiry was about pressing vs screening vs whether or not it was worth it, given the extra time and expense it requires. So any thoughts about where this could be posted, or if anyone has any advice here on poster pressing, that would be great. I certainly appreciate it. Attached is a photo of one of my posters... that has an obvious corner issue. I wonder what, if anything, the pressing can do for this?
  8. I'm trying to figure out if my book has any potential for a 9.8 with a press. The only grader notes are "very light spine stress lines break color." The book was graded in June 2018. I see from the CGC scale a 9.6 has "several minor...handling defects" and a 9.8 has "negligible handling defects." I know a press won't help with stress lines that break color, but I'm wondering if the fact that they are very light (I can't even see them at all when looking at the book) means I could possibly improve the book slightly with a press and then get lucky with another grader to get a 9.8. Also, as shown in the cover picture, there does appear to be a 1mm length tear on the top left corner spine. I'm also considering having it signed by McFarlane and Michelinie and then pressed. Unfortunately my scanner added a bunch of dust artifacts or something, which makes it look like the book is covered in scratches, but the pictures should at least give a good view of the spine. Thanks for any help!
  9. I had my first experience with pressing and I was hoping the group could give me an opinion about this pressing. Here's a picture of the Uncanny X-Men 266 I received in my family's small mailbox in 1990. The book had some obvious bends. Here are what those bends look like now after pressing and grading. They are obviously better than before but still noticeably present. I know pressing can't fix color breaks, but I thought they would be able to get rid of the bends on a modern cover. Should I be satisfied with this?
  10. I wanted to see what others thought. What grade would you give this? And would a press and clean be beneficial, like always thanks in advance for the responses.
  11. Hey all, I'm new and from Champaign IL. Recently went through my old comic book collection and it kind of got me back into the hobby. Does anyone know of reputable pressers/cleaners in the central Illinois area? TIA
  12. Ok, First let me say I'm sorry if this is somewhere else in the forums, I promise I tried to search and find the answers. The more I go through the board looking for answers, the more I get confused. I have a swamp Thing # 1 that I want to get graded but feel a pressing would really help due to some small indents in the cover. My question is can I send in just one comic to press and grade? And what tier should I go with as I think its an awesome grade but I'm no grader.and should I go quick press or the full press?? I'm sorry if this sounds like an insufficiently_thoughtful_person question but keep in mind I am a disabled veteran. I wish I could get my whole run done at once but I'm afraid we vets don't get as much as some may think to live off of. Thank you for any input and points in the right directions. Peace.
  13. Obviously if you think it's worth it for a shot at a 9.8, and, if so, do they charge you to grade it? (re-grade it if it moved to the 9.8 after the press) Thank you!
  14. I submitted a copy of Incredible Hulk #377 (3rd Printing) for grading about a year ago and it came back as a 9.0 with grader notes of light creasing to cover and light spine stress lines to cover. I started researching pressing and thought this would be a good candidate to get a higher grade. So I submitted it last month for pressing and re-grading. To my surprise it was re-graded at 9.0 with the following grader notes: indent center of front coverlight creasing to coverlight spine stress lines to coversmall crease left bottom In effect it had more flaws after pressing. I know there's no guarantee it would grade higher but how are there more flaws after pressing? Also did I misinterpret what flaws pressing can improve? Thanks in advance for your comments.
  15. I’ve never submitted comics through the online service here and sort of need some guidance with the process. I actually have a few questions also if anyone is able to help. First off I only have 6 books I’m sending in and want 1 signed by Donny cates and stegman. 2 of the 5 other books I want pressed but when I go to add it to my order it says I need a minimum of 15 books but I don’t have 15 books to send in. Can I still get my books pressed if I choose that as an option? I added the 5 books to my cart including the ones I want pressed but when I went to select the option to get a signature it wouldn’t let me choose it. Idk if I’m answering my own question here but do I need to check out my current order of the 5 previous books first and then purchase the signature as a separate order or something? Like I said I’ve gotten comics graded I just have never submitted anything online before.
  16. Hey All, I recently picked up a copy of ASM 238. The book is already graded at a 5.5. The only real flaw with the book is a large subscription crease running down the middle. Grader notes say : Crease full center of front cover- breaks color, crease left top of back cover, spine stress lines. I am wondering if the book should be pressed and re-graded, to try and get the crease out. Does anyone have any insight into this? Any idea if the crease would come out with pressing, or is it something that cant be fixed? Thanks in advance!
  17. I'm sure most collectors are familiar with the non-color breaking crease that runs vertically on the front cover next to the spine on thick, cardstock covers like the one on the Killing Joke and Dark Knight Returns. Can those kinds of covers be pressed? Does the crease affect the grade or was that an effect of the production process. Can embossed covers be pressed? Thanks in advance for any help.
  18. Hey guys, so I had a question about whether or not I should have a book that’s already been graded pressed and sent back for potentially a higher grade. It’s an Uncanny X-Men #94 at an 8.0. In the grader notes all they pointed out were some creases on the front and back cover. One crease breaks color though so I know there’s nothing a press can do about that, but what about the others? Do you guys think it’d be worth it? I plan on keeping this issue a long time and want it in the highest grade possible. I’ve attached a picture of the grader notes as well.
  19. Hi, I recently got my X-Men 101 pressed and graded by CCS/CGC. Unfortunately, the Grader Notes indicated: "light crease left top of back cover" and "spine stress lines". However, when I looked closely at the back cover, I noticed a bunch of creases near the spine, which looks like a pressing error. Unfortunately, I didn't take a "before" picture of the back cover, just the front, but I don't remember seeing these creases. Even if they were there before, shouldn't pressing have eliminated them? Should I ask CCS to re-press this book to address this problem? Also, I could not see the "light crease" on the left top back cover, can anyone else see it?
  20. I have A signature series white widow #1 swimsuit edition that came back at a 9.0 the graders notes listed issues that can easily be corrected if I had it pressed, but I’ve received mixed intel on if it can be pressed or not. Some say that it would be rejected and sent back. Any ideas?
  21. Hi everyone. I recently submitted this issue of X-Men #130 for pressing, grading and signature verification to CBCS, and got it back verified (John Byrne signed it on the first page in ink) and graded 9.6. I was hoping for a 9.8 after pressing, but it received the following grading notes: "signature(s) verified by BAS" "tiny spine stress front & back cover does not break color" "few light bends to cover" I am thinking of taking the book to a comic con to have it signed by Chris Claremont and witnessed by CGC (which I believe would get a qualified signature series yellow/green label) and then have it repressed and regraded by CCS/CGC. I am hoping that getting a CGC Qualified Signature Series label (Claremont seems to be popular these days) along with a possible grade increase after a CCS pressing (since there are no color breaks and only a few light bends and tiny spine stress) will be worth my trouble. Any thoughts or opinions on the possible wisdom or lunacy of this plan?
  22. Just picked up this nice raw copy of ASM 72. The seller claimed in the description that the centerfold was hanging on without a picture of any of the interior. Got the book a few days ago and inspected it page by page and then found four full pages detached from the bottom staple. From the fourth image you can see the lower staple end seems to be clipped. Could this be a defect? I've caught two books from 1968/1969 in the last few months with a lot of staple issues. Anyone have any insight? Thanks
  23. Change to CCS Screening Service Emails We're making a change to the CCS screening service emails. Prior to today, we have sent customers an email indicating which books were approved for pressing and which books weren't. This would typically include a fee breakdown for CCS. Moving forward, if books are submitted to CCS for press screening, customers will only receive an email when books are rejected for pressing. For example, if 25 books are submitted for press screening and five are rejected, an email will be sent to indicate which five books are rejected. All other books would proceed to be pressed at the rates indicated by the customer on CGC’s order form. This new change also applies to screening for restoration removal.
