Hey all, I have been looking on the board for a topic dedicated to fan mail from comic creators, and was surprised to not have found one! I know Fanmailbiz has a forum for it but I know many more people use the CGC boards compared to that. So I decided to create this topic so we can all share our fan mail successes, and also our unsuccessful letters, and help each other add something personal to our collections from a favorite artist or writer. In my opinion, sending letters to creators is one of the funnest ways of obtaining a hand written response, signature, or sketch, it's such a rewarding feeling getting a personal response back from various creators, although the wait can be long, it is worth it in the end. I'll start off by showing some of my favorite successes from comic creators I've gotten over the years, Success from John Romita Sr. after I sent a letter to him in 2016, he was kind enough to sign and sketch this print, and included a nice note! about a 3 month turnaround. Fan mail success from joltin' Joe Sinnott last year! Huge thanks goes out to Joe and his son Mark for making this happen, always wanted a Thing sketch from Sinnott. Fan mail success from Adam Kubert! Sent Adam a letter saying how much I was enjoying his run on PPSM, and he was kind enough to include this sketch with his response, which I was very thankful for. Randy Emberlin success in 2017, included this great Venom sketch. I have also received responses from Steve Ditko, Peter Laird, Chris Pratt, and others! Looking forward to seeing some of your fan mail successes! Hope we can all help each other out in adding legendary comic creators.

Recently I came into possession of a piece of art done way back in the day of the great comic book illustrators. It appears to be a recreation of the Amazing Spider-man issue 21 inside cover/page 2 where Spiderman is fighting The Beetle. In the original comic this piece was done by the legendary Steve Ditko and to my knowledge this piece looks identical to the image in the comic. And I am assured that it was created around the same time. To that effect it was signed by Stan Lee as he is certain of it's age but not able to clarify the artist (as he's, you know, getting on a bit). Does anybody know if there is a way to authenticate the original artist? I know it can sometimes happen through a signature but other than what could possibly be behind some tip-ex there is no signature to analyse on this piece. I've attached the image for reference. I'm just curious as to whether this can be done as I'm very proud of owning this piece and want piece of mind as to it's value, otherwise I won't be so proud Thanks in advance.

I'm looking into getting a sketch and signature from an artist at an upcoming Convention, but I need to send him the book beforehand so he can start the sketch. What do I need to do to make sure that CGC will still take it and verify it at the Con?

This is going to be a super long shot. A few years back there was a best of the best CGC SS Sketch competition, for different characters, etc. There was one sketch that was done on oils or pastels. It was the best Wolverine sketch I'd ever seen. It was from Mad Dogz I think. I was just hoping to see it again.

Hey guys, I’ve got an amazing original piece of art by Dave Gibbons of Nite Owl from Watchmen drawn back in 1986. It’s a full figure on 11”x14” sheet of paper from a sketch pad. It’s signed and dated by Gibbons. This was Dave donation to the San Diego Comic Con Art Auction that year. Yes, back in the day before the show got too crazy they help an art auction, just like Heoes Con. Can anyone identify the characters or artist of these works? Vintage sketches I uncovered but I cannot find anything about the characters or artist in searches I have done. Any time I search for Rupert all I come up with is that dang Rupert the Bear. Any help would be most appreciated!
