Hey there, folks! I'm pretty new to all this grading stuff and would like to hear your opinion on my latest purchase (- just bought a few hours ago). Please tell me, what your grades would be and why you would grade it like that. I wanted to get this signature of Stan "The Man" Lee verified by CGC, but there doesn't seem to be an option to get it verified - without having it already verified at a Comic Con or something. Unfortunately, there was no CGC official standing right next to the deceased legend. The signature still looks valid in my opinion. If it's a fake, it's a pretty good one. I've also seen the scratch (~ about 1", if you ask me) on the fourth picture, which doesn't seem to affect the cover and the color doesn't seem to break. What do you guys think? Edit: color of the pages > white Thank you for your time and all the best from Germany, Dan P.S. I don't have any high hopes for this beauty. Just because of the scratch and the probably non-white pages. I'd probably grade it with a 7.0, even if it looks nice. But I don't know, if this would be realistic. Everything higher would be great!

I resubmitted one of my Stan Lee autographed comics for a new slab (case). It was returned without the requested Stan Lee Label. When I called CGC, I was informed that CGC no longer has the rights to put a Stan Lee Label on any resubmitted Stan Lee autographed submitted comics. CGC did not secure the rights to continue using the Stan Lee Label on autographed Stan Lee comics after his death. This news is very disappointing So beware, if your "Stan Lee Autograph Label" case get's cracked, chipped, pressed and regraded, you cannot get a Stan Lee Label anymore. Thanks CGC!- 18 replies

Hello people of CGC. Just haven't made a post on this forum in a while. I need help trying to price my “New mutants #87” signed by the late Stan Lee and Rob Liefeld at the current market value at a grade of 9.0 off white to white pages. You see I am trying to sell this signatured key issue from 1990 at the current market value by auctioning it off. And I can’t risk on spending like $38.63 and later getting ripped off if the item does not sell for 514.99. Because ebay can’t refund sellers of the item does not sell in the auction. Which I find hypocritical. I need help on finding a reserved price at market value and see if I can exceed that amount to a premium. And if I am thinking about selling it for like $514.99. Give me an alternative to an auction site like ebay that offers selling a item at $514.99 at a cheap price. Thank you. -

I have discovered that CGC will not honor Stan Lee with a "Comic Book 1st Appearance". For those of you who have done your research, Black Rider (#8) #1 released by Marvel Comics in 1950 is the "1st Comic Book Appearance of Stan Lee". Representatives at CGC will even tell you that it is if you ask them. I confirmed this with CGC many months ago. But, when I got my issue back of Black Rider #8 (#1), 1950 Stan Lee Photo Cover, CGC refused to add "1st Comic Book Appearance of Stan Lee" on the label. I was told that the reason for this is because Stan Lee was a "Real Person". Off the top of my head I checked my CGC of Marvel Premiere #50 , issued by Marvel Comics in 1979, it notes "1st Comic Book Appearance of Alice Cooper". I guess real people do get acknowledged with first appearances in Comic Books, depending on who they are. When I brought this issue up to CGC, I was only told "sorry". Stan Lee has appeared in hundreds of comic books and has appeared on hundreds of comic book covers. I was asked a few years ago what his Comic Book 1st Appearance was? I thought it was a very good question, So I confirmed my research with CGC. Yes, they agreed that the Black Rider #8 (#1) 1950, was Stan's 1st appearance. I feel this dishonors the man who has done so much for the comic book world, especially when real people like Alice Cooper are clearly acknowledged with a 1st appearance. How many more "real people" have been noted with first appearances in Comic Books? But, CGC refused to add to the Black Rider Label that it is the "1st Comic Book Appearance of Stan Lee". Even though they will freely tell you that it is. I guess they don't recognize real people, except Alice Cooper and probably many others, with a 1st appearance, but Stan Lee is not worthy. Please comment on this and let me know if you feel that CGC is dishonoring Stan Lee. They obviously do note first appearances of real people, Alice Cooper is proof of this and their are probably many more. But I guess the late, great Stan Lee is not worthy of a 1st appearance, but Alice Cooper is. Please comment. Thank you.

Recently I came into possession of a piece of art done way back in the day of the great comic book illustrators. It appears to be a recreation of the Amazing Spider-man issue 21 inside cover/page 2 where Spiderman is fighting The Beetle. In the original comic this piece was done by the legendary Steve Ditko and to my knowledge this piece looks identical to the image in the comic. And I am assured that it was created around the same time. To that effect it was signed by Stan Lee as he is certain of it's age but not able to clarify the artist (as he's, you know, getting on a bit). Does anybody know if there is a way to authenticate the original artist? I know it can sometimes happen through a signature but other than what could possibly be behind some tip-ex there is no signature to analyse on this piece. I've attached the image for reference. I'm just curious as to whether this can be done as I'm very proud of owning this piece and want piece of mind as to it's value, otherwise I won't be so proud Thanks in advance.

And getting books signed that are eligible for CGC Signature Series Grading is becoming more difficult. The date of this signing has been set for beginning of July. This is NOT a convention signing. Desert Wind has been authorized to announce accepting books and will accept books up to the submission deadline, so submit now so you don't get caught by surprise and miss the signing. The price to get a book signed and CGC graded is $175.00 for a modern tier. That price includes grading of a modern tier book, our witnessing and handling fee and Stan’s signing fee. It does NOT include return shipping or the CGC $5.00 form fee. Please refer to the Celestial-comics.com website for other grading tiers and costs such as shipping and fast track fees. You must fill out a Celestial-Comics submission form found on our website to submit with any books submitted. There is NO limitations to the number of books submitted. De-slabbed 2.5 Restored with small amount of glue on spine(I believe it's down at the bottom staple, which is barely hanging on! Top staple is secure. Comes with label. Book has been pressed. A restored 2.5 just recently sold on eBay for $932.00 with color touch and tear seals to cover along with the glue on spine. Hello. I found a "The Amazing Spider-man" #252 Mark Jewlers variant key comic signed by Stan Lee and Micheal Zeck graded by CGC at a high grade of 9.6 white pages. And it was selling for $37.00 on mrbeaina.com. https://www.mrbeaina.info/amazing-spiderman-252-cgc-96-dual-signature-autograph-stan-lee-michael-zeck-item-31959.html When I saw this I was asking myself if I was lucky or not. I mean it's a rare key comic that is hard to come by which is the first appearance of the black spider-man suit, and it's the Mark Jewlers variant it has two signatures from Stan Lee and Mark Zeck and it's at a high grade at 9.6. Well it was 72% off on that website. I mean amazon and ebay woulden't sell it at a price lower at $37.00. The most prices for that comic with Stan Lee or another signature that worked at marvel whether on amazon or ebay would be at high price. For mrbeaina. I think I might have gotten lucky.

But it does not stop there , elder abuse, trying to force Stan Lee to change his will...to write his daughter out of the will. "Stan Lee claims he is afraid for his life!" I had always heard stories about Max his manager , tales of embezzlement , even of elder abuse. But those were just rumors even from reliable sources until proven are just that , there was never any factual evidence provided. If the above article is indeed true , than its just awful. And i feel terrible for Mr.Lee and his daughter. ( and hopefully no nasty remarks about "Kharma being a person_without_enough_empathy". please keep in mind that elder abuse of any kind is very serious and terrible ) Has any collector had any interactions with Max, anything that stands out as being inappropriate ? Max was always buying high end original comic art at comic conventions ,was he using funds that may have been embezzled , was he trading in autographs for art? He also always bragged that he had at least 25,000 Stan Lee autographs stashed away for a rainy day when Stan passed. Just curious? -
