About Me

  1. Today, March 22nd, is Nostalgic Investments’ Comic Art NEW ART FRIDAYS! Featured Artists: Neal Adams Alex Toth Ramona Fradon Featured Page: Captain Marvel #17 p14 ( First New Captain Marvel) by Gil Kane There may not be a greater, or as important, page in the whole Captain Marvel storyline as this particular splash. Here’s where Captain Marvel comes back from the Negative Zone and dons the costume, for the very first time, that he will be forever remembered for. Thank god he finally discards that terrible green costume that not too many of us were fans of. I think a good part of his popularity stems from how great this costume looked. This really is an epic first appearance in the annals of Marvel comics. NEW ART FRIDAYS update this week includes art from Giordano, Gil Kane, Jim Mooney, Don Heck, Neal Adams, Jack Kirby, Mike Zeck, Bob Powell, Sal Buscema, Alex Toth, Ramona Fradon, John Stanisci, James Fry, Jerry Bingham, George Papp, Don Heck, Jose Delbo, Carmine Infantino, and Ed Smalls! Detective Comics #447 Cover by Giordano Captain Marvel #17 p14 ( First New Captain Marvel) by Gil Kane ThunderCats #4 Cover (Signed) by Jim Mooney Avengers #11 p18 (Spider-Man vs Spider-Man) by Don Heck Teen Titans #22 p9 (Rare-Adams) by Neal Adams Thor #144 p14 (Signed)(Large Art) by Jack Kirby Captain America #282 p4 by Mike Zeck Tales to Astonish #65 p6 (Large Art) by Bob Powell Defenders #21 p27 by Sal Buscema Moby Cartoon Model Sheet by Alex Toth Super Friends #37 p2 by Ramona Fradon Iron Man Annual #12 p52 by John Stanisci Marvel Saga: The Official History of the Marvel Universe #18 p1 by James Fry Superboy #93 p3 (Large Art) by George Papp Captain America #246 p23 by Jerry Bingham Tales of Suspense #56 p10 (Intro-Origin Unicorn) by Don Heck Wonder Woman #284 p2-3 (Double Spread) by Jose Delbo Flash #116 p3 (Signed, Large Art) by Carmine Infantino Action Comics #199 p5 (Large Art)(Congo Bill) by Ed Smalls See all these New Art Fridays pages at www.nostalgicinvestments.com/fridays and hundreds of comic art pages at www.nostalgicinvestments.com/comic-art Payment plans and trades are always available.
  2. Today, March 15th, is Nostalgic Investments’ Comic Art NEW ART FRIDAYS! Featured Artists: Bill Everett Frank Thorne Joe Quesada Featured Page: Tales to Astonish #78 p1 (Large Art - Splash) by Jack Kirby, Bill Everett You would be hard pressed to ever find as dynamic an art piece of the Hulk as this. To have it drawn by Kirby and Everett takes it to an even higher level. Images like this are rare to find and are sought after by most collectors. Whosoever gets this extraordinary splash from me will never regret it after they frame it up and enjoy it daily as I have done. 3. Today, March 8th, is Nostalgic Investments’ Comic Art NEW ART FRIDAYS! Featured Artists: Jack Kirby Doug Wildey Mike Mignola Featured Page: Green Lantern #56 Cover (Large Art) by Gil Kane If I didn’t have my large art Green Lantern cover, I would never give this one up. There are very few of these covers that have ever come on the market or even are in existence. Certainly not many that are this good. It also doesn’t get much better than having it drawn by Gil Kane and Murphy Anderson. To put the price in perspective, the last 2 wonderful George Perez covers sold for $288,000, one a Justice League cover and the other an Avengers. Last night a good, not great, Bob Layton, Iron Man cover sold for $82,000. Of course I can offer up many more examples both cheaper or more expensive but my point is you could spend a lot more money on other covers and not necessarily get the same visual impact that this cover will give you. NEW ART FRIDAYS update this week includes art from Jim Starlin, Gil Kane, Jack Kirby, Mike Mignola, Herb Trimpe, Matt Broome, Andy Kubert, Craig Brasfield, George Roussos, Jerry Talaoc, Doug Wildey, Ed Hannigan, Rich Buckler, John Romita, Jr, Mike Sekowsky, Ric Estrada, Carmine Infantino, Jeff Rebner, Philip Xavier, and Jim Mooney! 4. Today, March 1st, is Nostalgic Investments’ Comic Art NEW ART FRIDAYS! Featured Artists: Brian Bolland Graham Ingels Basil Wolverton Featured Page: Amazing Spider-Man #45 p14 (Extraordinary) by John Romita, Sr. There may not be a better battle page by John Romita Sr. that has been offered up for sale. I did see a nice page that Heritage sold last year for around $140,000 from issue 69 but that was from the small art format and not like this one that’s a lot bigger in the large art format. Every panel is great on this page and Issue #45 is considered one of the great storylines from Romita’s run on Spider-Man. What’s interesting is that it’s much harder to find a great, early Spider-Man original art page drawn by John Romita Sr. than it is to find a great Ditko Spider-Man page considering that John only did issues 39-53 which were in the large art format — so only 15 issues compared to the 38 issues that Steve Ditko drew. Being penciled and inked by John Romita also makes this page stand out. In the large art format Romita only did both for issues 42-48. A lot of these issues are mostly complete so hardly any pages come up for sale. So for these reasons the page is very exceptional. NEW ART FRIDAYS update this week includes art from Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, John Romita, Sr, Todd McFarlane, Basil Wolverton, Jack Kirby, Graham Ingels, Richard Howell, Ron Wilson, Brian Bolland, Tom Sutton, Ron Wilson, Ed Hannigan, Matthew Marsilia, Luis Dominguez, Carmine Infantino, Greg Land, Lee Elias, Kurt Schaffenberger, Al Williamson, and Fran Matera! And just as a bonus it’s signed by Bob Kane. Truly rare and delightful. Featured Artists: John Byrne Jack Kirby Tom Sutton Featured Page: Captain Marvel #35 Cover by Ron Wilson What more would you want in a Captain Marvel cover but to have him large and imposing with a great Villain, in this case you have the Living Laser, and of course having Rick helpless and needing Marvel to save him? As a kid I thought the Living Laser was just super cool and his outfit was “neato.” I’m sure I’ve dated myself. Featured Artists: Alex Toth Jack Kirby Frank Brunner Featured Page: Batman #14 p10 (Large Art) by Jerry Robinson This is truly one of the greatest pieces of original comic art that I’ve ever offered up for sale. It may not be the most expensive or even the most beautiful but when it comes to rare and historic it’s hard to beat this piece. There are not many of these early Batman pages in existence and to have one drawn by Jerry Robinson plus have it showcase Batman and Robin prominently simply boggles the mind. This page belongs in a museum. Featured Artists: Billy Graham Dan Adkins Roy Krenkel Featured Page: Batman #0 Cover by Greg Capullo This is one of Capullo’s most recognizable images of Batman. Because of how iconic the image is it was chosen as a popular tee shirt design. It was also a part of DC’s New 52 launch. I know there’s another Capullo Batman cover on a site for $75,000 and a few have sold this year between $50,000 and $65,000. A friend who knows that market better than I do told me he sold his for $65,000 and then helped me write this blurb. 18. Today, June 23, is Nostalgic Investments’ Comic Art NEW ART FRIDAYS! Featured Artists: Frank Frazetta David Mack Irv Novick Featured Page: Batman #32 p7 (Large Art)(Rare) by MR. Sprang This is the only story that exists that MR. Sprang both penciled and inked. The page is incredibly striking. What an extraordinary artist! The only reason this story survived is that Sprang asked for this back because of his love for Dumas and The Three Musketeers. This is truly historic. NEW ART FRIDAYS update this week includes art from MR. Sprang, Frank Frazetta, Humberto Ramos, Bryan Hitch, John Byrne, James Sherman, Irv Novick, David Mack, Larry Stroman, Werner Roth, and Jack Manning! Batman #32 p7 (Large Art)(Rare) by MR. 19. Today, June 9, is Nostalgic Investments’ Comic Art NEW ART FRIDAYS! Featured Artists: Mike Zeck Jack Kirby Gene Colan Featured Page: Fantastic Four #287 p15 (Large Art) by John Byrne How important is Dr. Doom going to be when the FF movies enter the Marvel Universe? He is, undoubtedly, the greatest villain that Marvel has to offer. What a great battle page featuring Doom and the Invisible girl. That close-up of Dr.Doom is ridiculously good. I love the fact that it’s in the large art format so you get a lot more art for your money. Featured Artists: Tim Sale Brett Booth Sal Buscema Featured Page: Power Man #33 Cover (Signed) by Ron Wilson Growing up, this was one of my favorite Power Man covers. 22. Today, February 17th, is Nostalgic Investments’ Comic Art NEW ART FRIDAYS! Featured Artists: Jack Kirby Mike Mignola Russ Heath Featured Page: Spider-Man #16 p8 (¾ splash) by Todd McFarlane This is one of the great stories in the McFarlane run of Spider-Man. I’m sure he wanted to go out in a big way considering that it was the last issue that Todd worked on in the title. The X-Force are well represented on this title: Shatterstar, Warpath, Domino, and even Juggernaut's mammoth hand makes an appearance. NEW ART FRIDAYS update this week includes art from Todd McFarlane, Mike Mignola, Russ Heath, Jack Kirby, Cliff Chiang, Don Heck, Jim Mooney, Kurt Schaffenberger, Gerry Talaoc, Frank Thorne, and Ron Frenz! 23. Today, January 20th, is Nostalgic Investments’ Comic Art NEW ART FRIDAYS! Featured Artists: Jack Kirby Gene Colan Larry Stroman Featured Page: Wonder Woman #194 Cover (Signed) by Adam Hughes No wonder Adam Hughes is considered a master when drawing the female heroines. When I first saw this cover in a collection, I was hoping that I would get a chance to eventually trade for it. This is clearly one of the best Hughes covers that I’ve ever seen. NEW ART FRIDAYS update this week includes art from Jack Kirby, Adam Hughes, Gil Kane, Luke Ross, Mike Sekowsky, Win Mortimer, Gene Colan, Larry Stroman, Jim Aparo, and Werner Roth! X-Men #17 p20 (Splash) by Jack Kirby and Werner Roth This is clearly the biggest image of Magneto that you will ever find. 25. Nostalgic Investments’ Comic Art SPOTLIGHT MONDAYS SPOTLIGHT MONDAYS - On Monday we will spotlight a special piece of art for your collecting pleasure. DOCTOR DOOM and FRANKLIN vs MEPHISTO Fantastic Four Annual #20 Cover (Signed) by Ron Frenz I think we all would like a Fantastic Four cover featuring Doctor Doom. This cover also has Franklin Richards teaming up with his family's arch villain trying to take on Mephisto. When Marvel Studios announces the Fantastic Four movie, a cover like this will be much more expensive.
