About Me

Found 18 results

  1. Howdy Gang! Starting a new thread, for the most part a mixed grille of 40's through 70's comics, but there will be a small handful of pulps, and a nice smattering of vintage paperbacks. Ol' @Surfing Alien has again inspired me, First off though: DA RULEZ I'll put up a big scan of the FC, note anything else I spot, and as always, if you'd like a scan of the back cover I'll be happy to supply it. Shipping to USA preferred, but if you want something sent to Canada or overseas PM me and we'll work something out. :TAKEIT: rules the roost, but PM's, kibitzing, and general tomfoolery are welcome. $10.00 Priority shipping to the USA for one to four comics, one or two paperbacks, or one or two pulps, well packed in a padded envelope. $17.00 boxed Priority for larger quantities. Canada or overseas to be determined. $17.00 for slabs, double boxed, shipped Priority. CHECK OR MONEY ORDER GREATLY PREFERRED, I despise paypal. If you just GOTTA pay with paypal PM me first and we'll work something out. Returns for any reason on your dime, and for any missed major flaw or bad description on my dime. My Kudos thread: https://boards.cgccomics.com/topic/196720-catrick339-nuff-said/#comments Here we go! Little Max 1 Gotta love an infinity cover, right? Water at both staples, they're rusty with some migation. Small corner off lower RH FC. Otherwise flat and tight. Asking $10 SOLD!
  2. Greetings Gang! I'tls time for another edition of Rick's Quest To Reclaim His Garage, an ongoing saga that actually made some headway this summer. This time around I'm going to list a big ol' pile of misc pulps, all complete, a handful of them quite nice, a bunch more in midgrade, and a handful that are rough. Some nice paperbacks, plenty of Gold Medal and Pocket Books, misc other publishers. Along with them there's a big ol' pile of 50's and 60's comics, leaning toward DC science fiction with a nice mix of other stuff too. EVERYTHING in this thread will be a flat ten bucks, or a freebie with a purchase. 3. Well, as time allows I'll be posting reports from Windy City this year. THURSDAY We hadn't been here thirty minutes before we received a cryptic coded message from an unknown Agent Provocateur!
  4. Howdy page sniffers! Well, I may finally be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. My Beloved and I got our first Covid vaccinations yesterday, with the second due March 24th. A couple small shows locally have opened back up, half capacity, masks mandatory. We might actually be able to come out from underneath a yearlong lockdown in a couple months! Cat and I locked down last year on March 10, and it's been post office, doctor, pharmacy and bank for me, with bank and pharmacy being drive thru, and grocery store for Cat, and except for a couple invitation buying trips, masked and gloved, that's been about it! February was brutal here in Michigan, subzero temperatures at night, teens for daily highs, and a buttload of snow after a warm and open January, we've got cabin fever like you wouldn't buh-LEEVE. So to while away the last dregs of February, I've rooted around in the Basement Crypt of Comics and come up with yet another mixed grille. Couple pulps, some western digests, mixed grille of comics including a SA key or two, and even a couple more Atlas books. I'll probably run this for about five days, maybe six, I don't want to work TOO hard during Cabin Fever Season, DA RULEZ I'll put up a big scan of the FC, note anything else I spot, and as always, if you'd like a scan of the back cover I'll be happy to supply it. Shipping to USA preferred, but if you want something sent to Canada or overseas PM me and we'll work something out. :TAKEIT: rules the roost, but PM's, kibitzing, and general tomfoolery are welcome. $8.50 Priority shipping to the USA for one to four comics, well packed in a padded envelope. $15.50 boxed Priority for larger quantities. Canada or overseas to be determined. CHECK OR MONEY ORDER PREFERRED, I just plain out don't like paypal. If you just GOTTA pay with paypal PM me first and we'll work something out. Returns for any reason on your dime, and for any missed major flaw or bad description on my dime. My Kudos thread: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=4287314#Post4287314 Here we go! Jimmy Wakely 9 An overlooked gem out of the Jim Clark collection, I found it misfiled while digging around this week. Flat, good gloss, white pages, minor general wear. Lower staple nearly detached on CF, touch of foxing along RH and upper FC, Sharp copy for $20 SOLD!
  5. I have what I believe are all Australian digests/pulps for auction. Manty are from the Phantom Book Series and the numbering corresponds to that series. Most measure roughly 5.5" x 7.25" - the Carter Brown is roughly 5.5" x 8.5" - So This Is Love is roughly 5" x 7" I tried to find as much info as I could and have listed it. I cannot guarantee all the info is correct and would welcome any updates. Mostly worn but from I can tell all complete. I think they are somewhat hard to find but I am in the US and they may not be in Australia/New Zealand. I believe they are all from the 1950s but the Carter Brown may be from the 1960s. Oddly, no dates inside on most. Auction Deets: Starting Bid is $10. BIN is $200 Increments of $3 Auction Ends Saturday at 1 pm CST. Paypal Goods/Services. US shipping media mail of $6 (as I believe these qualify for media mail but if mistaken, let me know and they will go Priority Mail $15) International bidders, I will need to get a quote for you. No returns unless there is some egregious flaw I missed but please bid accordingly as these are not the highest grade. If you need more pics, please let me know. If this is somewhat successful, I have a few more I might try that are in better condition but wanted to test the waters with this lot. Included: Bargain in Blood -1953 reprints US Gold Medal Book #162 - tape on spine, first page has just a small amount of writing - if you need pics let me know. Extra staples added. Crime Story Detective Volume #6 #10 - I couldn't find any info on this one - pieces out of covers and spine split about half way but still currently holding together. Great Painted Cover on this one. Hunt the Killer #6 -1958 - Cool cover, and decent condition but rough spine, The whites on the cover are part of the cover but if you look quickly, it appears there are missing pieces which there are not. Knife in My Back #634 - 1955 - Spine roll and glue on spine of cover. Mountain Bride #269 - 1954 - Star Books - stains, small pencil on first page - rougher back cover The Case of the Black Orchids #607 - tape on spine, extra staples. small pencil, pen first page/interior BC Carter Brown #5 Reprints three stories by author Carter Brown - "Lady is Murder" "Cyanide Sweetheart" "Madame, You're Morgue Bound" - glue on spine of cover So This Is Love - My Pocket Library Series - Small pencil first page but this is the nicest of the lot.
  6. Yo check out some of these books I’m selling. I don’t really want to sell them because I’m in love with them. However house stuff is important too. The Books: - Mostly horror/detective pulps. Majority with some sort of skeleton on the cover. I hate to see them go but I have to move them. Priced fair as the market for these has been gradually climbing. Make me an offer via PM’s. Some Rules: No PL/HOS members The first "take it" posted in the sales thread wins. If we reach a deal via PM, I'll mark books SOLD in the thread as soon as reasonablypossible - but if someone else takes the book in the thread before your PM take is acknowledged in the thread (by either you or I), the thread poster is the winner, I'm afraid; so, there is some risk of losing a book if you try to remain anonymous via PM Payment I'll take PayPal only please Shipping Books are going UPS Ground with Signature required. Books are shipped extremely well. If you don’t believe me check the Kudo’s thread. Working in a warehouse with an unlimited amount of shipping supplies. Anyways, enjoy!
  7. Greetings, Gang! Got a regular thread started over in G/S/B, here's where all the weird stuff is going to land. And yes, I have some weird stuff, DA RULEZ I'll put up a big scan of the FC, note anything else I spot, and as always, if you'd like a scan of the back cover I'll be happy to supply it. $15 boxed Priority for larger quantities. Canada or overseas to be determined. SOME OF THE ITEMS I'M GOING TO LIST ARE GOING TO HAVE INDIVIDUAL SHIPPING QUOTES IN THE TEXT, I HAVE SOME BULKY ITEMS AND SOME HEAVY ITEMS TO SELL. BUT I THINK I CAN FIT ANYTHING I'M SELLING INTO A MEDIUM FLAT RATE PRIORITY BOX OF ONE SIZE OR ANOTHER, SO MAX SHIPPING SHOULD BE FIFTEEN BUCKS CHECK OR MONEY ORDER PREFERRED, I just plain out don't like paypal. If you just GOTTA pay with paypal PM me and we'll work something out. Returns for any reason on your dime, and for any missed major flaw or bad description on my dime. My Kudos thread: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=4287314#Post4287314 Here we go! I'm starting out with the coolest children's book I've ever run across. Check the many pictures attached, this one is wild. Gabby Hayes Tall Tales For Little Folks A Bonnie Jack-In-The-Box Book Copyright 1955, Samuel Lowe Company, Kenosha Wisconsin. Same format as a Little Golden Book, but if you look at the front cover you'll see three round spots. Turns out they are little grommets that go through the cover, acting as hinges for...well, take a look at the pictures. Every page shows Gabby dressed in another outfit, as does the back cover. Great fun, and this copy is sharp. Touch of general wear on the cover, the interior is bone white and untouched. Gabby's hinges are gorgeous, there's one tiny tear on the LH boot, otherwise that's IT. I looked this up on ABE Books, there are only three copies listed, one taped up copy at $30+, and two about the same as this one at $85 and $95 I'm asking $75
  8. Howdy Gang! Closing in on 100 days of voluntary quarantine, and no end in sight. Cat and I are locked down through AT LEAST mid-July, and maybe beyond. Michigan is opening up fully, and on our few trips out (Pharmacy, bank, and Post Office for me, grocery store for me and Cat) we're seeing more and more nitwits ignoring social distancing and masks. We're not going anywhere until we see what kind of spikes develop in the Midwest after full open. We've already had two deaths among friends and close acquaintances, and several hospitalizations, including a couple intensive care stays. We're staying put. But that leaves us with a lot of time on our hands. Cat is cooking many odd dishes, with about one success in two, and every once in a while something spectacular. I'm doing yardwork, organizing books and comics, and drinking as much as is good for me, HOWEVER! As boring as things have gotten, I took a little road trip the other day to a buddy's house. He's older than me and has emphysema, so he's been AT LEAST as careful as I have been, so we decided to chance it, I came home with some junk, some interesting cheap stuff, and a few gems. I'm keeping a few items, the rest are going up for grabs. Stand by for a few pulps, a handful of early paperbacks, and a nice pile off Gold through Bronze oddballs Stand by for mixed grille! DA RULEZ I'll put up a big scan of the FC, note anything else I spot, and as always, if you'd like a scan of the back cover I'll be happy to supply it. Shipping to USA preferred, but if you want something sent to Canada or overseas PM me and we'll work something out. :TAKEIT: rules the roost, but PM's, kibitzing, and general tomfoolery are welcome. $8.50 Priority shipping to the USA for one to four books, well packed in a padded envelope. $15 boxed Priority for larger quantities. My Kudos thread: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=4287314#Post4287314 Here we go! Giant Sized Creatures #1 First appearance Tigra, formerly The Cat Nice flat tight copy, bit of general wear. White pages, good gloss. Asking $25
  9. The Books Silver, Gold and Pulp Awesomeness General Rules No PL/HOS members The new board software does not display precise thread post times (either in PMs or in sales threads), which can result in the inability to determine whether a PM post or thread post came first. One thing remains certain - it is easy to tell whether one post in a thread came before another post in the same thread. So, the first "take it" posted in the sales thread wins. If we reach a deal via PM, I'll mark books SOLD in the thread as soon as reasonably possible - but if someone else takes the book in the thread before your PM take is acknowledged in the thread (by either you or I), the thread poster is the winner, I'm afraid; so, there is some risk of losing a book if you try to remain anonymous via PM. (Credit to EC Ed for these rules. I have adapted them with his permission) I kindly ask that you not Quote a book and then make a comment. It makes the book appear to be sold. Payment I'll take PayPal for total sales under $1000 if PayPal is your preferred method. Personal checks, or USPS money orders for total sales $1000 or higher. When the thread is over an invoice will be sent with PayPal address. I'll expect payment within 10 calendar days of invoice, or the book will be available for sale again (unless we've made other payment arrangements) Time payments are available for purchases of $2500 or more with 20% non-refundable deposit and installment payments so purchase is paid in full no later than 90 days and up to 120 days can be available for $10,000 or more (please PM first). If monthly installments are more than 10 days late or payment is defaulted the 20% deposit will be retained by the seller but the rest of monies will be returned to the buyer and the sale will be nullified. I reserve the right to not take time payments. Shipping Terms USA: $10 for raw and $18 for graded in any quantity. I ship USPS priority with signature required. I pack in Gemini boxes in a USPS legal flat rate envelope for raw books and a Med flat rate box for slabs. Please note the shipping prices are slightly higher than they used to be. It is costing a little more these days. Canada: $15 for raw and $25 for graded in any quantity. Overseas- Shipping at cost. I only ship overseas to established board members with references. I now only ship one time a week so please be patient as it could take up to 10 days to ship your purchase. Returns/Refunds General Policy: I will accept returns on raw books within 30 days of your receipt of the books, as long as the books are returned to me as they were when you received them. There are NO RETURNS on CGC graded books. I always accept returns on raw books within 6 months if I missed restoration or the CGC grade is more than 1 grade off (for example I call a raw book a 5.0 and it comes back a 4.5 -no return. If it comes back a 4.0 you can return the book if you want for a full refund plus your shipping to me).

  13. Well, we're now four months away from the 2018 Windy City Pulp and Paperback Convention (April 6-8, 2018), which will be held at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center in Lombard, Illinois. We're pleased to announce that we're now sold out of tables in the dealer room (all 155 of them, our earliest sell out ever!). If you'd like to be placed on the waitlist for a table, please let me know. The hotel has created a website to make it easy to book a room for the convention; the link is below. We hope to see you all there next year! https://www.starwoodmeeting.com/events/start.action?id=1712069512&key=25AC584 Best, Doug Ellis www.windycitypulpandpaper.com
  14. “The Art of the Pulps”, co-edited by myself, Ed Hulse and Robert Weinberg, came out earlier this week, on October 24 from IDW. For me, it was a long wait, but I think the final book was well worth it. Bob and I actually started preliminary work on the book back in January 2016, so it’s been nearly a two year project for me. Bob unfortunately passed away in late September 2016, just as we were about to start working on it in earnest, but fortunately Ed Hulse was willing to step in and help see the book through to its completion. I think Bob would have been very pleased with how it came out. The book focuses on the colorful cover art of the pulps, along with a sampling of some black and white interior pulp art, containing roughly 460 images. But in addition to the images, there’s well over 50,000 words of text, written by some of the top experts in the pulp field. Besides contributions from the co-editors, we were fortunate enough to enlist the writing talents of (in alphabetical order): Mike Ashley (science fiction), Will Murray (hero), Michelle Nolan (sports), Laurie Powers (love), Tom Roberts (air and war), David Saunders (the great pulp artists), F. Paul Wilson (foreword) and John Wooley (detective). We think you’ll agree, if you read the book, that each did a bang-up job! The book should (hopefully!) be available in your local book or comic store, as well as being available online from retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Bud Plant through Bud’s Art Books. If you pick it up, Ed and I would love to hear your reactions, and if you’ve got some time to post an online review on Amazon, B & N or similar sites, we’d appreciate it. We’re trying to get some follow-up projects off the ground, and good word of mouth definitely helps sales, which helps drive the publisher’s willingness to publish more books on the pulps! Doug Ellis
  15. So...lately you have seen auction sites such as HA...CL, ComicConnect offer PULPS for auction....So....Does that mean someone goes through every page of a pulp to make sure there are no missing pages? If you have a PULP with 500 pages do you assume they are all there? What if you win a PULP and it is missing one page,,,,,
  16. Listing some Golden Age books/pulps today, may add more tomorrow. Shipping in the USA is flat $6 for any amount, flat $16 if outside the US (unless otherwise noted). Paypal is accepted, if you are in the USA a check or MO is great too. Returns are fine if you notify me within 48 hours of receiving, buyer pays shipping. in the thread trumps all PM negotiations. No HOS'ers or other delinquents please. Thanks for looking! my kudos thread http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=6514183#Post6514183
  17. Steranko at Windy City Pulp & Paper Convention April 21-23, 2017 The legendary Jim Steranko will be the Guest of Honor at the upcoming Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention, taking place at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center from Friday, April 21 through Sunday, April 23, 2017. Steranko is a legend not only in the comics field – for his groundbreaking work as an artist and a historian – but in the pulp field as well, with his depictions of several classic pulp heroes, from The Shadow to Doc Savage to Sherlock Holmes to G-8 and many more. Steranko will be present throughout the show, and will also be speaking Friday night at 7:00 p.m. As this year’s show is the same weekend as C2E2 (also in the Chicagoland area), C2E2 attendees may want to head to Lombard to complete their weekend. This year’s event also celebrates the Red Circle line of pulps. These were the first publications put out by Martin Goodman, who later would launch the Timely line of comics that eventually became Marvel. The program book is packed with material on Steranko, the Red Circle line, gangster pulps, and more! The cover is attached. The convention also features over 150 tables of pulps, vintage paperbacks, comics, original comic and illustration art, and other related goodies for sale in its massive dealer room. Movies based on pulp stories will be playing throughout the day on Friday and Saturday, while the New Pulp movement will host a variety of panels on Sunday. And Friday and Saturday nights will feature two incredible estate auctions, featuring thousands of pulps, including nearly 200 issues of The Shadow, as well as many other rare pulps. Admission is $35 for all three days, $25 for Friday only, $25 for Saturday only, and $10 for Sunday only. Ages 13 and under admitted free with parent. Hours are Friday 11:00 a.m. to midnight, Saturday 10:00 a.m. to midnight and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The convention is being held at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center, 70 Yorktown Center, Lombard IL 60148.
