  1. I found The Death of Superman TPB at Kroger in early 1994, I was 11 going on 12, this was the beginning of my journey into this wonderful hobby. I had heard of this “event” but I was so late to the party that it was over, the Death and Return of Superman saga was a trilogy of three storylines, "Doomsday!", "Funeral for a Friend" and "Reign of the Superman!", all ancient history by '94. After I got The Death of Superman TPB I searched out issues for "Funeral for a Friend" and "Reign of the Superman!," not an easy task for a kid with no job (or allowance 'cause I never did chores), who's only transportation were his parents or the school bus. I was able to catch up thanks to several Toys R Us trips, where late comers like myself could pick up various sets of comics, with a lot of Superman books. I found most of the issues I needed for "Funeral for a Friend" this way. As I got more into collecting I decided I wanted to have the individual "Doomsday!" issues, even thou I had them nicely collected in TPB form, after another Toy R Us trip, I got all those issues from a box set. As I started accumulating price guides, poly bags and backing boards a monster began to gestate, who became concerned about condition and value. I then discovered there were actually multiple printings for many of these issues, and that the first printings were worth more! Each printing after the first edition was notated by a roman numeral, next to the issue number and price on the top left corner of each cover. While the cover art was the same with each subsequent printing the title logo color scheme changed for each issue’s printing. Suddenly, the 2nd, 3rd and so on printings I had were tarnished in my eye. All of my "Doomsday!" issues were later printings, and not worth the paper they were printed on, and most of my 'Funeral' issues were the same. As the years went on, and the prices went down, I replaced many of my later printings with first prints, recycling the paper rags I had before. Then CGC came along.... Around 2007 I decided to start CGC Registry set for this storyline, all 9.8, first prints only. By the early 2010's I re-discovered the later printings, where I became enticed by the thrill and challenge of trying to find these books in high grade. I love how unexpected all of this was, I know I never thought the later printings would ever be collectible, and I think it's safe to say I wasn't the only one. Here are my CGC examples thus far, keeping the thrill of the hunt alive. Some of my childhood books also survived, thankfully.
  2. I've been building the perfect beast that is my CGC Death and Return of Superman set, going on 12 years now. My set is an assemblage of subsets, including the "Doomsday!" and "Reign of the Supermen!" chapters, along with all the multiple printings of the various issues, Platinum Editions (Superman #75, Adventures of Superman #500), and Collector's Editions. Another subset, or beast, is the "Funeral for a Fried" chapter, a collection of nine books that tell the story of a world without a Superman. I consider this to be the best chapter of the saga, with those closest to Superman mourning with the citizens of Metropolis, other characters in the DC Universe, President Clinton and the rest of the world. With the exception of Superman: The Man of Steel #21, each cover is fantastic. Outlined with a black boarder, these books are a challenge to find in 9.8 grade. I scored Superman: The Man of Steel #20 recently, now I'm only three issues away from having all the first prints in 9.8 holders. Requiescat in pace, Superman.

Anything over $200 will need to go signature required. Returns for any reason, but the book must be returned in the same manner it was shipped within 7 days of receipt. Shipping costs are to be paid by the buyer. No list people please. Several of these I submitted, if I did, I have notes as to whether they were pressed and cleaned, so I'll note that in the ads. Prices are my guesses from GPA/eBay and any other place I think of looking. Most of these are not common, so I might be wrong, if I am, just send me a PM (if I'm too low it might be too late, lol;) so just if I'm too high;) I'm planning one more sale next weekend, Raw GA, and that will be it until I get some CGC books back in a few months.
  7. Hi guys, I need a bit of help from the experts; I was happy to buy the original art to this nice Dave Cockrum pinup from THE COLLECTOR #24 fanzine, published in 1971 (in full color !). You can see the published version in 'additional images' (thanks to Ken Meyer Jr.'s 'INK STAINS' blog: https://comicattack.net/2015/06/01/is-72-tc-24/). I'd like some help from Dave Cockrum experts - is this the first Superman or Superboy image he'd published (in a fanzine or elsewhere) ? If not, please let me know when and where was his first (fanzine) Superman published. Many thanks, Gal

  11. I love comic books. Ever since I was a kid, the lure of the hand-drawn art, as well as the adventure to the local comic store alone, was the highlight of a long school week. As I got older, the comics I loved became art and soon I was collecting graded comics to keep forever in perfect (or close to perfect) condition. The one problem I found was always displaying them. No matter what the product it always seemed flimsy or not “clean” looking enough. I wanted something that could support my habit and also provide a minimal way to showcase them without bulky and expensive covers and matte frames. So, I began 3D printing, designing, and modeling. After months of trial, I finally had what I wanted. Simple to install bracket that minimally holds the graded comic without sacrificing that perfect cover art. BEHOLD! The Mountiee! Mountiees are resin printed brackets that hold just the lip of the graded comic without hiding anything else from that beautiful case. The design also lets you slip your comic in and out at your leisure so your display can change as your mood does. Simply mount the bracket with the included screws and wall anchors and BOOM…its on the wall. We designed the bracket with collectors in mind meaning we used high-quality UV resin to make the bracket stable without worrying about weight or grip. They are light weight but can hold any graded comic from standard case to newsprint. Mountiees come in 3 colors: Dark Night (Black), Classic Gray, and Semi-Transparent. No interested in using screws? Renting? Head to your local home improvement store and grab double-sided removable mounting tape. It's that easy! We want you to start displaying your “preciousnesses” as well, so head on over and grab your brackets today! 12. I finally got to scanning more books from my collection, these will be more Superman books about 25, I will probably do 1/2 today and the rest tomorrow night.. I take Paypal, MO's or checks. Shipping in the US is $6.00 for a well packed Flat Rate envelope. use at least one Gator board plus cardboard. Someone once told me you could drive a truck over the Gator boards, I have not tried that;) but they are strong. I can fit up to 2 books safely in a FR envelope, after that I'll use a box (no extra charge). If you want to start with a box, I charge exact shipping. If you are out of the US, I'll ship however you'd like, for the exact amount. Out of the US, please pm me before buying if you need a shipping price. I pay for private insurance so that is included. If the book is over $250, it must go signature required. That means if you are out of the US and it's over $250 it has to go priority or Fedex. I take returns for any reason, but you must let me know within 3 days of receipt and the book must be returned within 7 days shipped the way I sent it and packed it.. Buyer pays return shipping. First Take it wins, but I must see the take it if it's in a pm, if I have not acknowledged a take it in a pm, and someone posts one on the boards, then the board one wins (because it's sometimes hard to see the time in a PM). Payment is due within 3 days unless we have an agreement about time payments before you post a take it. All my comics come from a smoke free home. To the best of my knowledge none of these books have been pressed.

  22. NO BUYER'S PREMIUMS — What you bid is what you pay! The Joel Shuster illustration on this cover is a classic of simplicity and dynamism and has eye appeal above its grade. It is important to note that this is only the third appearance of Superman on the cover of a comic and that there are just fourteen copies of this incredibly rare issue that have been certified unrestored by CGC. We almost never see the book on the marketplace let alone at auction - you can throw away the guide on this one! Also of note, this is only the third time that we have offered an unrestored example of this highly desirable and truly scarce tenth issue. Out of Superman's first three cover appearances, Action #10 has the fewest unrestored copies certified by CGC with a mere fifteen issues. With over forty unrestored copies of the mega key Action #1 and twenty-seven issues of Action #7, it's no surprise that Action #10 surfaces far less often. This issue is special in terms of it's significance as well as it's scarcity, and has a great pre-World War II cover with Superman destroying an enemy plane with one mighty punch! Serious Superman collectors already know how tough this early issue is. It should be noted, that an opportunity to acquire such a scarce and desirable issue like this one does not present itself often. Overstreet Guide 2018 VG- (3.5) value = $41,300. If you are a new customer planning to make a first-time purchase over $25,000, please contact us 24 hours in advance of the item closing at 212.895.3999 or support@comicconnect.com so that we may approve your account for bidding. (This policy was instituted to protect consignors and bidders against bids from fraudulent accounts, and to ensure the integrity of the bidding process.) Once approved, please log out of your account and then log in, for the approval to take effect. 24. I'm planning some home renovations this Winter/Spring, so I'm going to have a series of sales. The next few will b raw 10-ct Dcs, from the 50's and 60's. I might toss in a few exceptions, but not many. This group will be 10- cent Action Comics. I will post 12 books this morning and about the same tonight at 8pm est. Combine shipping with the Adventures I had listed last week:) U.S. Shipping is whatever a regional box A costs (usually about $7.50 for the east coast and $9.80 for the West coast. I can fit at least 10 books in one of those safely. Tracking is included. If you buy more than I think can fit in a regional box A, I'll cover the difference for a larger box. If you prefer, I can use a priority flat rate envelope. I can safely send up to 4 books that way, I use very strong boards. I think boxes are even safer, but it's up to you. I send anything over $200 signature required. I pay for private insurance, so that is covered by me. I will ship anywhere at cost (no handling fees) (so Canada to the South Pole, etc, is fine;) Paypal and checks/MO's are accepted. Time payments are possible (but ask me first before posting a Take It) General rule is 20% down (non refundable) due within 3 days. The rest of the payment schedule we can work out, but the payments must be completed no later than March 2nd. If they are not, I will refund the balance minus the initial 20%. Take it rules. You can post in the thread or in a PM. If you post in the pm, put the time. I don't expect ties, but if there is one, the tie goes to the post on the thread. Returns. I accept returns on anything. You have 7 days from the day you received the book to return it to me. It must be packaged the way I packed it. Please let me know before returning anything. No list people please. If there are any questions, or you want me to try to take more pictures, just pm me.
