  1. Greetings, I’m looking for raw, 9.8 candidates for Adventures of Superman #505, specifically the ‘Direct’ Edition, not the Newsstand/Barcode Edition. There is only 1 9.8 in the census that belongs to a friend, so I know it’s not going to be for sale anytime soon. I’m particular on cover alignment also, I would also be interested in a bulk lots also for those with large inventory. I would like to see photos to before working out an offer. I hope I don’t sound stuck up or unreasonable here.
  2. Hello, If you have one of the three 9.8 slabs in the census for this issue with WHITE PAGES and are interested in selling I’d pay $150.
  3. Remember when Superman had a mullet?! From 1993 to 1996 Superman, a.k.a. Clark Kent, sported the mullet hair style. Depending on the artist the mullet varied in length. Superman first appeared in mullet form on the last page of Superman: The Man of Steel #25 (Sept. ’93). This issue was part of the Reign of the Supermen storyline, chronicling the four Supermen who appear after Superman's death and ultimately revealing the one true Superman. In Superman #82 (Oct. '93), the Reign of the Supermen ended, beginning the reign of the super mullet! I did not care for the look as a kid, I used to take my comics and place my fingers over the end of the mullet to get a glimpse of the short haired Superman, pre-death and return. Unconfirmed fact, I read years ago that the Superman creative teams decided on the mullet to match the look of Dean Cain, who was to star in the then upcoming Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman t.v. show (1993 - 1997). Okay, the hair is a little long in the back but I wouldn't call that a mullet. Check out Clark Kent with a ponytail. In 1996 Superman finally got a hair cut in Superman: The Wedding Album. Thank God! A wedding is a good reason for a haircut, also, if I remember correctly, Superman had lost his powers around this time, so it must have been easier to get a hair cut. Yikes!
  4. Trying to establish a grade range for a set of Superman comics. Posted one of the earliest/worst ones before. This is one of the latest/better ones. Thanks in advance.
  5. Sorry we didn't use a dark background for these photos. Complete novice here. Not sure how to describe. Hopefully photos will suffice.
  6. Posters, Prints, Art, and More I'm doing some maintenance on my collection. Removing some odds and ends that I don't need any more. I'll have up to a dozen posters, prints, sketches, and other similar items. Rules: PayPal only. Payment due within 2 days. No Returns. I'd be happy to send more pictures or descriptions upon request. First unedited take it in thread wins and takes priority over PMs in progress. US bidders only. Nobody on any type of list. Shipping is at cost. I will get your mailing address, package the items, and send you a final amount to be paid based on weight. Items are noted as shipping rolled or shipping flat. I do not charge you for supplies - just the shipping cost by USPS via PayPal. I will ship to the address in PayPal. I'm finding these items a little difficult to price. Offers are always welcome! Thanks for looking!
  7. My journey into this wonderful hobby began in early 1994, when I found The Death of Superman graphic novel at Kroger, I was 11 years old then. The graphic novel collected the seven issue storyline "Doomsday!", the comic book colors inside hooked me. I had heard of this “event” but I was so late to the party that it was over. The Death and Return of Superman story arc was a trilogy of storylines; "Doomsday!", "Funeral for a Friend" and "Reign of the Supermen!", all ancient history by '94. After I got The Death of Superman graphic novel I searched out issues for "Funeral for a Friend" and "Reign of the Superman!," not an easy task for a kid with no job (or allowance 'cause I never did chores), who's only transportation were his parents or the school bus. I was able to catch up thanks to few Toys-R-Us trips, where late comers like myself were able to pick up various two packs and packaged sets of comics, with a lot of Superman books. I found most of the issues I needed for "Funeral for a Friend" this way. As I got more into collecting I decided I wanted to have the individual "Doomsday!" issues, even thou I had them nicely collected in TPB form, after another Toy R Us trip, I got all those issues from a box set. As I started accumulating price guides, poly bags and backing boards a monster began to gestate, who became concerned about condition and value. I then discovered there were actually multiple printings for many of these issues, and the first printings were more valuable! Each printing after the first edition was notated by a roman numeral, next to the issue number and price on the top left corner of each cover. The cover art remained the same with each subsequent printing but the title logo color scheme changed for each issue’s printing. After realizing this the 2nd, 3rd and so on printings I had were tarnished in my eye. All of my "Doomsday!" issues were later printings, and not worth the paper they were printed on, and most of my 'Funeral' issues were the same. As the years went on, and the prices went down, I replaced many of my later printings with first prints, recycling the paper rags I had before. Then CGC came along.... Around 2007 I decided to start CGC Registry set for this storyline, all 9.8, first prints only, yet by the early 2010's I re-discovered the later printings, becoming enticed by the thrill and challenge of trying to find these books in high grade. I love how unexpected all of this was, I know I never thought the later printings would ever be collectible, and I think it's safe to say I wasn't the only one. Here are my CGC examples thus far, keeping the thrill of the hunt alive. Updated 11/01/2019 Some of my childhood books also survived, thankfully.
  8. I've been building the perfect beast that is my CGC Death and Return of Superman set, going on 12 years now. My set is an assemblage of subsets, including the "Doomsday!" and "Reign of the Supermen!" chapters, along with all the multiple printings of the various issues, Platinum Editions (Superman #75, Adventures of Superman #500), and Collector's Editions. Another subset, or beast, is the "Funeral for a Fried" chapter, a collection of nine books that tell the story of a world without a Superman. I consider this to be the best chapter of the saga, with those closest to Superman mourning with the citizens of Metropolis, other characters in the DC Universe, President Clinton and the rest of the world. With the exception of Superman: The Man of Steel #21, each cover is fantastic. Outlined with a black boarder, these books are a challenge to find in 9.8 grade. I scored Superman: The Man of Steel #20 recently, now I'm only three issues away from having all the first prints in 9.8 holders. Requiescat in pace, Superman.
  9. It's a bird. It's a plane! It's Superman: From the 30s to the 70s. The book that started an obsession, and ended up becoming my mission. I'm sure my father bought it for me, but I have no idea why I obsessed over the thing. The art was mostly crude. The stories were universally terrible. (If he had given me the Batman: From the 30s to the 70s book I probably would have gotten into Batman.) But something about the history of the thing, those early covers with their bold colors and dynamic layouts pulled me in. I never read the stories, but would go back to that dusty hardcover again and again and flip through it, stopping at each double page spread of covers, from the early issues up through the 1970s Neal Adams ones. My kid brother at some point got a hold of the thing and destroyed the cover, then went to work on the pages with a magic marker. I kept it anyway. When @Point Five pushed me to buy an old, crappy copy of Action Comics 59 at a New York comic con 15 years ago, I should have known better. The cover was detached. It had color touch. I later found out that the cover was married. It didn't matter. In what was to become a decade-plus journey to complete a run of golden age Action Comics, all CGC'd. At first there was no plan. It just kind of happened one day, a few years into collecting them, when I realized I had a dozen. Then 2 dozen. Then 3.... My journey ended about a month ago, when I finally received the last book I needed to complete Action Comics 15-63, Action 23, courtesy of @Cosmic Boy. Getting that book back from CGC was a saga unto itself. But it will have to wait. I spent nearly 5,500 days building this collection. I'm gonna take 49 days to post them here. One book a day; each book a story.
  10. So I have a Superman 75 platinum edition Still in polybag never opened But I've heard several different Things some people say leave it in bag and others say have it slabed what should I do and if I do decide to have it slabed how should I go about it

  14. Hey all I'm trying to learn more about the history of this goldenage Superman Comic. From what I've gathered, it's from the 1940s, Swedish, & done by Nordpress. The problem I'm having is the Volume # of said series and trying to find out what exact year this book was published. I plan on getting it graded, and there's a small cutout on one of the pages, which is a shame for such an old book. Regardless, getting it Slabbed so it's protected. Thanks for your time & help!

  19. I have a Justice League of America (1960 1st series) #179 Whitman Variant comic that I cannot seem to find any information on whatsoever. I was hoping someone could help me estimate the value of this item. My guess is that it would achieve around an 6.5-8.0 grade (or more) but what do i know. Last one I found for sale was a 5.0 for $2300 USD on ebay. Please let if you know if you can offer expertise on this comic as I am inclined to know more about it!

Low Grade Read Description. This was once a incomplete copy. The cover, 1st & 2nd wrap and centerfold were missing. Now it is complete with extremely high end reproductions of the cover, first 2.wraps and centerfoldThe wraps are even done on newsprint just like the original was. It is all put back together with original staples. So the cover, first 2 wraps and CF are high end reproductions and the rest including staples are original. Feels nice in your hands. Totally readable and would look amazing in a slab. This book would grade a "NG" with CGC and a .1 with the "Other" company. GPA on the last incomplete coverless copy was $1300 so asking $1300 OBO on this copy.
