I posted these in the "Pre-Hero Marvels!" thread, but figured they would be appreciated here as well.

I'm new to collecting, but this is my favorite series so far.

Those books are awesome. I love the JIM horror and monster books. I started on this run a couple years back and half roughly about half. Every time I come across a dealer and tell him Im working on that run they are surprised of the progress ive made.  Everyone has the same ones and never any of the early issues. I cant say enough how under valued that JIM line is. ITS GOLD!

I have a 7.0 OW/W copy of JIM #84.  It cost me $1,200 about two years ago.

I figured maybe I would try upgrading to an 8.0, by bidding here:  https://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item.asp?id=1389644

I knew going in that last year, an 8.0 OW/W sold for $2,760 on Heritage.  That's a lot of money, more than double what I paid for my 7.0, but I was ready to bid in that range or above.

By this evening, I was surprised to see that the bidding on this copy was up over $3,600.  Huh?

Then later on tonight, the auction closed at $8,651.  :whatthe:

I've seen plenty of crazy auction results over the years, but this one has me scratching my head more than most.  Huge congrats to the seller ...

Thor is hot still super cheap in my opinion JIM 83. It almost tripled at one point in the last 12 months in value but still cheap in almost all grades. In my opinion should rank higher than it is in the TOP SA books.

That may be so, but I don't think outlier sales like this one truly set the market, I think they are just outliers.

Just last month, a similar thing happened with JIM #85.  There were two 9.0s on the market -- one with a Buy Now price of $8,250 on eBay and another up for auction on ComicLink.  The ComicLink copy (no better or worse than the eBay copy) sold for over $15K.  I thought I was quick to go after the eBay book, but somebody beat me to it.  Sure enough, they put it up on ComicLink, where I won it for $7,600.  They didn't lose a ton of money, but they also didn't double their money like they thought they would by flipping the book.

$8600 is crazy! Then again, you rarely see this being offered anything above an 8.0 which is why it went for huge $$

Book would have tanked if it was on an eBay auction  haha

I remember buying a JIM 85 9.0 W from a seller on eBay offline for 2500...Sold it on comiclink for about what I paid for it around 2006 and bought artwork which turned out to be the better investment in the end but I do miss the JIM 85 occasionally now that I'm back into comics
