Grading help please?

I'm looking to buy a Silver Age book that is a 9.2 to 9.4 but has a 1/8" tear at the top edge of the front cover. How much of a grade deduction would that be? It's a tough book to find in highgrade but I don't want to pay 9.0 guide if that alone brings it down to a VF or lower.

I have a book that's more like a 9.0 with the same defect. I think a 1/8" tear is allowed in the VF grade.

I asked the same question a while back, and someone posted a book that had this defect graded at 9.4 (?)

I sent mine in and got an 8.5.

It didn't seem to hurt the grade too much.

As long as it's clean and not distracting, I'd think it counts about the same as any other 1/8" defect.

I had one with that size tear on the back. They downgraded it from a 9.2 to a 9.0. I would guess it'll probably end up a VF+ from CGC, LR.
