A couple oddities today.  First, a pulp from the UK; other than the quite obvious and significant flaws it's got great page quality.  Figure it was worth $5 for a 80 year old book, in any case:

Picked this up last week at outdoor flea market in Barcelona, published in 1935.

I was familiar with the Golden Amazon and others that were in the scifi pulps but these crime fighting stories were a little too much like Wonder Woman although they appeared before Marston's character.

Picked this one up recently. November 1941 with Schomburg illos and Timely ad

I enjoy those internal illustrations especially those by Burroughs.

When I was younger (much) I read all of The Shadow books with the great Steranko covers and I really enjoyed the series, I also read The Spider because I was into pulps quite heavily but the stories never seemed as well crafted as the Shadow. As a pulp collector however I much prefer The Spider covers.

Just when this topic was about to fall off the first page...The Spider swoops in to save the thread, and its one of the earliest uses of the "woman on a wheel"  theme.
