So here's the book I teased about a few days ago.  This has been on my wish-list forever, and while I've come close a few times I've never actually been able to acquire one before now.  This is a scarce book, and this is by far the highest grade copy I've seen.  The cover is super-clean, smooth, and glossy.  Pages are insanely white.

The cover is by Norman Saunders, signed "Blaine" (his middle name), to protect his reputation.

Big thanks to Dwight for the Saucy Stories.  I know all the Saucys he got out of that collection last year had bone-white pages as you can see above.

The primary book I gave up to get it, Thrill Book from Sep 15 1919, went to pulp scholar and collector John Locke.  Thrill Book is an incredibly rare and important book in its own right, but you have to make sacrifices sometimes!

What makes this particular issue important?

They are just all extremely tough to get pre-1920, and because it is shorter run it’s highly sought after and rare.

It's a sci-fi/fantasy/weird title before those genres had even been defined.  The editors at the time called them "different" stories.  The entire short run of the title is rare and important as a forerunner of Weird Tales, Amazing Stories, Astounding, Unknown, etc.

Double Detective, Feb 1938

Cover by Emmett Watson

It took years, but I finally acquired a nice copy of this stunning Double Detective cover by Watson.  I wouldn't expect this issue to be too tough since most are readily available, but this one never seems to turn up.  Probably because no one wants to part with it. (shrug)

I can see why you’ve been looking for one. It’s beautiful.

I could stare at that Spicy Mystery for hours...

Yep, it's incredible. There are a lot of menacing, green hands on covers, but how many covers feature two menacing green hands?!  hm
