Amazing Fantasy #15 Club

Tom, I'm a little put off by your post.

AF 15s don't fly, they swing. doh! I'd think an ASM collector like you would know better. Another newb mistake like that and I'll start calling you a Superman fan. :baiting:

I stand corrected...

Are you *spoon*-ing kidding me...you don't count sheep falling asleep, you count little flying AF15s swinging over the fence...this book and your DNA are ingrained...you can (frustratingly) state you're off the search, but we all know better...

(thumbs u

Still with the flying--must love Superman...

Are you suggesting I have latent Superman tendencies??? :o

Now I am truly insulted! :sumo:

I am not suggesting anything...

So, anyone wanna take a guess where this copy will land?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330259591706&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching

My money is that it will land around the $1350-$1400 marker. It presents a little more nicely than the last copy (which went for about $1300 or so), so I'm guessing it will land about the same if not a bit more. Seller's lack of background might scare some bidders away though...

Thoughts?

Are you kidding? That's a gorgeous copy! Perfectly straight spine, no Marvel chipping, great color, hardly any creasing, wow!

And the fact that you are the original owner (and you remember where you bought it) makes it even cooler!

What he said... squared.

Gorgeous copy, Harry. How come you didn't get that one slabbed when you did all the others? Or did you get it slabbed and then free it later?

P.S. I am going to guess that's around a 7.0 (or at worst a 6.5 based on what I can see), which of course means that your return on investment was pretty darn good. lol

It may not be the nicest, but it was purchased by me the week of 6/5/62 at Sid's Luncheonette in Orange, NJ...

Dang, I just looked at your Showcase 4. That is a couple of major league hitters and both look very nice. :headbang:

My keeper (6.5) and my reader (2.5)... and one more (2.0) pictured in the group shot. I bought the keeper off of Neat Fun Stuff in 2001 (?). I got a pretty good deal at the time. I hesitated because my girlfriend was with me and I didn't want her to see me spending that much money on a comic. Luckily, she encouraged me to buy it.

Awesome, thanks for sharing. Just curious how you remember so clearly on the date? I was researching date stamps last week on this book, and there were about a three week span that they covered.

Good question - I'm not absolutely certain of the specific date. I, along with the O'Brien brothers who lived around the corner in Orange, bought our copies of AF 15 and JIM 83 the week that the books were released.after seeing evidence that 6/5/62 was the "official" release date, i just put two and two together. I went to Sid's Luncheonette just about every day to peruse the comics, paperbacks (ERB's Tarzan and others were coming out in the ACE editions), Magazines (Famous Monsters, etc) and get my daily fix of Ice-Pops, Sodas, whatnot. So i am positive that the book was purchased the week it was released.... :) i just can't add to the 6/5 vs 6/12 debate........

Wow... :o(worship)

I bought each of those off the rack at Sid's back in 1962 - 1964.

Sold ASM #'s 1-5 for $10 in early 1964 to little friggin Mario - a handsome profit at the time... :insane:

1500.00 reserve and 1200.00 in bids :oPersonaly, I can see it getting the 1300.00-1400.00 easily. The cost of high grade books has people turning towards low grades. I really think we'll start seeing a whole new high with low grades in the near future. My .5 AF15 sold pretty high last month and this book was already pushing 200.00 more.

I dunno... second one wouldn't go higher than 5.5 in my books--spine is pretty rough for a mid grade. I'd need to see the back and insides for a definitive though. Seems to me like CGC was in the right ballpark to me?

That 7.5 "keeper' is a real thing of beauty... (worship)

I agree with mac man that the second one is less than a fine, so a 5.0-5.5 seems about right. there are about 2 dozen spine stresses on that one, with loss of color on the ULC and the small chip on the right edge. but, hey, nothing to sneeze at either... (thumbs u
