Has anyone seen the 7.0 on highgrade. It is a pretty book but should a 7.0 have that much chipping? Bob has it discounted. I just wonder how many folks that turns off versus the number the 7.0 intrigues.

 

I think CGC missed the boat big-time in not downgrading for MC. "Production Defect" :blahblah::blahblah::blahblah: , there are big pieces missing from the cover! It's hard to quantify how much this book was downgraded, but all else being equal, I think if you showed a collector a chipped and unchipped copy of any book in the same (CGC) grade, they'd choose the unchipped book every time.

 

Fortunately, the "market" has sort of corrected this discrepancy with unchipped copies of any particular book bringing more than chipped copies, but I think the difference would be much greater if chipped books were downgraded accordingly. I personally won't buy a chipped copy of any book if I can avoid it (and I did buy a nice AF 15 this year, unchipped of course!).

Is that true ? I thought they did downgrade for chipping depending on the grade, the higher the book is overall the more they treat it as a defect as opposed to a lower grade copy where they don't downgrade as much.

 

Based on that idea I do think they treat it a little bit too lightly.

Thanks, cloudofwit, for all your work compiling the list. Very nice to see my beater assigned a grade of GVG, for some reason. Alas, it's surely no more than a 2.0. In fact, if anyone wants to throw in a grade guess, please check out the image on page 46. (I know there's a separate PGM thread.) The inked-in eyes, ragged spine (but attached), heavy chipping -- no way it's a GVG. Thanks anyway, and I'm grateful to spidervariant for this thread! Always interesting!

I've never had a SS before. Could someone tell me what Stan & CGC charge for the SS service? Also, it seems like there would be a bump in value for SS books. Is there a concensus on what the price bump would be for a SS comic? I noticed the last AF15 3.0 blue label sold for slightly more money than my 3.0 yellow.... maybe there's no bump at all.

Also anyone know what an ugly chipped 5.0 owp - wp would go for? It has a crease on the cover as well - not sure how it went 5.0.

 

Someone is asking 9500 for it locally, I'm wondering if I should pick it up.
