Strong logic, Wayne-tec.....It's have to say the universe of remaining copies is 3,500-4,000

My initial instinct was to say around 10,000 - 15,000 copies, but that doesn't seem to be too realistic. The majority of the copies we see made available are slabbed, at the very least over 50%.

If you doubled the total of slabbed copies, it would only total 3,600.

I think wayne tec is in the ball park at 10k copies...I believe I had at one point seen the print run somewhere in the 250K range?...surely 5-10% still exist today, as is the case with most early SA books...we were post paper drives, and already into the era of collecting...

the statement "the majority we see available are slabbed" is pretty indicative of the market...if folks decide to sell an AF15, they typically do slab it...but the number of copies "for sale" is not indicative of the number of copies out there that are raw that are "not for sale"

I know a collector in GA, that has (last time I was at his house) an entire short box of AF15's (all raw, probably 100+ of them)... I have seen hundreds of raw copies in travels, compared to maybe 10-20% that number slabbed

10K is probably a conservative # imo

I entire short box?? 100 hundred plus copies?? Yikes!! Can you please get a pic of this next time you visit? I would LOVE to see that!

A 4.0 copy closed at $9300 on ebay last night (had a $10k BIN).

Seems like the prices are still holding strong, if not rising a bit.

I saw that sale as well. A strong price for a 4.0, but then again the eye appeal was very high. I don't think there is any stoppage of high sales for AF 15's

Sweet! I have a 4.0!

4 is the new 5

I guess so.. Congrats to the new owner! You made a wise decision to spend your money on if you had to choose a book :applause:

There have been times in the last couple of years I have had 12-15 copies "in stock" at the same time. Folks like metro have had a dozen raw copies on walls of shows in recent past...my point is there are a ton (literally) of copies out there that folks that only frequent this board and reg on line venues don't know about. 50+ copies might seem like a lot, and in today's economic reality , financially to some it is a lot, but there are many collectors out there that hoard books , and in this case it is not limited to just af15. A few boardies know of this individual and he has multiples (many in the dozens) of all sa keys. And this is just one guy !

You mean like this - Buuuwah-ha-ha-ha :insane:

It must be cool to have so much of something everybody wants one of, I guess it's like having power over everyone. While I furtively finger my one measly copy.

Let's do some MATH here.....

Before you scroll to the bottom to see the total $ ask yourself "What would a shortbox of AF15s be worth?"

I don't know exactly what the "Georgia AF Hoarder" has obviously, but if we kind of follow the bell curve of the census, his collection might look like this:

65 Amazing Fantasy 15s

Gr - # - ave price - Total price

9.4: 1 $325,000 $325,000

9.2: 1 $190,000 $190,000

9.0: 1 $150,000 $150,000

8.5: 1 $107,000 $107,000

8.0: 1 $83,000 $83,000

7.5: 1 $46,000 $46,000

7.0: 2 $41,000 $82,000

6.5: 2 $25,000 $50,000

6.0: 2 $19,500 $39,000

5.5: 3 $14,000 $42,000

5.0: 4 $11,000 $44,000

4.5: 5 $9,500 $47,500

4.0: 6 $8,000 $48,000

3.5: 6 $7,000 $43,000

3.0: 8 $6,000 $48,000

2.5: 5 $4,700 $23,500

2.0: 5 $3,800 $19,000

1.8: 4 $3,500 $14,000

1.5: 4 $3,400 $13,600

1.0: 3 $2,700 $8,100

TOTAL OF 65 Amazing Fantasy 15= $ 1,422,700

This total would actually be closer to $1.5mil because the 9.2 price I gave him wasn't current.

You need to up your prices on the 7.5 to 8.5 range. A 7.5 could go for 50+ and an 8 could go for 90 to 100. An 8.5 could push 120+.

Tomorrow, it could change. :insane:.

I think following the census is kinda unrealistic

Those higher grade sent in are usually prime examples. I bet you this hoarder has a range from 7.0 down.

Prove me wrong as i'd love to see them.
