That seller lost money and must be feeling  I have mentioned before, that the Silver Age market has currently peaked late last year and we need sometime to recover. If we weren't in a down market, that AF15 8.0 would have gone higher. This is a great time to buy, if anyone has the extra funds.

:preach:

I wish I had some extra funds

There is a copy out there for you and you'll get your chance :wishluck:

Unrestored 5.0s with no marvel chipping OW w/good eye appeal sell fast at $10K. I believe the 5.0s are the perfect economical grade in that you can get a nice front cover at a still reasonable price of $10K

The Mound City 8.0 ended last year at $78750. I agree. It needs to be pressed up to an 8.5, otherwise the buyer will be sitting on dead money for a while. Based on the recent sales of AF15, I think a nice eye appeal 8.5 should be value around $80K-90K.

Rich, I was looking at the previous auctioned Mound books today and I believe the AF15 went for $75,000 plus a BP of 15% or a total investment of $86,250.

And no where on the book does it say "Mound City" as a pedigree. Just another no name 8.0 (of course an 8.0 AF15 is a KEY book & grade) with average OW PQ. This has to be a record price paid for an 8.0. See link below (lot # 868).

I sleep better, now, knowing I paid almost 1/2 that price for just 1/2 grade lower (with MUCH better PQ)...

I wonder why GPA listed as $78750 hm I wonder if the top highest bidder backed out and it was sold to the second highest bidder. Maybe someone here would know. You made a smart choice and investment for your copy (thumbs u . I purchased two books in the MC auction. It was the Brave and the Bold 28 7.0 and the Iron Man 3 9.6 which I felt was decent price and has very little downside and will appreciate in the long term.

Nice book but you can see the TONING effect on the cover. In other words, it's an "unwelcomed" dull brownish color instead of the "welcomed" bright gray. Many AF15s have this discoloration due to improper storage, heavy transfer stains, poor paper stock, etc. Focus on the bottom 1/4 inch grays then you can see the light tanning elsewhere. The PQ normally follows this pattern.

(Years ago when raw, AF15s would sell for premiums when copies had bright grays, superior PQs, unscuffed sienna browns, etc. Since slabbing, no one cares).

And that 8.0 on C-Link is slightly miscut top to bottom. That's the "shortest" top area (sienna brown area above the yellow letters) I've ever seen on an AF15. Not trimmed, just slightly miscut.

A very nice respectable 8.0 AF15, but not my cup of tea...:blahblah:

That's what I was thinking. At $78750 that make sense, I guess it was won by a floor bidder.
