USM flaws?

4 posts in this topic

What is the flaw on an Ultimate Spider-Man 1 - red, DF, or white variants - that cause the census current submissions to top out at 9.8? What are you looking for "not to be there" to grant the 9.9 or 10.0 for these books?

Both covers have printing defects. Small light dents in the right edge of the front cover (heavier dents go through the book--also seen on Origins) and there are also indents on the cover (same size & location), particularly on Spidey's foot (heavier indents have color loss).

We have seen books with no printing defects, but they have had handling defects that kept them out of 9.9 & 10.0.

Hope that helps.

Can those defects on the right side of the cover be present and a grade of 9.8 still be arrived at? It seems that 80-90% of the cardstock covers have that roller pinch.

It depends. The pinches vary in size and severity. Also there are some with only one pinch. The best bet is to find one with only 1 light pinch, and of course no other defects that might keep it out of 9.8. Then you have a shot.

It is tough to get a 9.8. Especially on books with common printing defects. A 9.9 & a 10.0 are even harder. We have done 190,000 books or so and only about 200 of them were 10.0's. Thanks for the follow-up question, Doc!
