I'm selling a friends DC/Marvel collection, 1400 books

I would never send a long box media mail.. they would probably destroy the box.. is that how you have gotten it for $20?

This is just a small sampling, but I have received four long boxes via media mail, and the contents have been perfect. It is a risky method , but the books weren't worth THAT much. Two even come from Canada, which is notoriously hard on boxes - I believe that they use them as hockey pucks at the sorting office. grin.gif

I don't ship anything in a RISKY METHOD. Thats why I have 100% feedback.

What if I wanted 25 copies of the "thing 1"? confused-smiley-013.gif

For you my friend I would find them for you. I would also give them to you for the low price of $10 a book.1002.gif

By the way your book is on the way. I'm heading to the Kudos room right now. thumbsup2.gif

Yep. Just went & checked a box I got a few months ago. Over 300 comics in a long box, which was packaged inside a larger box, insured & delivery confirmation from NY to TX for $22.99.

Paging Lighthouse, paging Lighthouse - shipping question...

To pick up board member ICECUBE's collection from a Philly suburb (to be shown at the DONUT-DARTH FIVE TABLE EXTRAVAGANZA next Sunday in Tysons), we rented a truck, which cost $200. Figure an additional $50 for gas, not bad for 28 long boxes. I'm deciding that for collections within 500 miles of me, that's going to be the way to go.

House is on his way home after visiting my parts so he can't answer this until tomorrow! crazy.gif

Cheapest legal Post Office method is to break the shipment into separate boxes of 95 comics each, which skates in at 14lbs and a couple ounces, and send them Bound Printed Matter (the upper weight limit for BPM is 15lbs). BPM is zone-based shipping, but the cost for me to ship from Oregon to Virginia is $8.71 per box, or about 9c per book. Here to Texas is $7.06, and here to Arizona is $6.16.

Even taking into account the cost of boxes, there's no reason why it should run more than 10c a book to ship via Bound Printed Matter across country. Distances of 1200 miles or so should be under 7c a book.

If you're feeling fruity, there are boxes that comfortably hold around 480 comics that fit the size limit for Parcel Post. The box checks in at just under 70lbs when it's loaded, but most people don't realize that Parcel Post rates are incredibly cheap once the weight goes over about 45lbs. 480 comics across country runs just $43.68 via PP. It's $33.70 from here to Texas and $29.49 from here to Oregon.

You can, of course, attempt to sneak a media mail shipment past the inspectors. Most of the time you won't have any problems, and the rates are a little cheaper. But the Postal Service has the right to confiscate the shipment if they choose, and can pursue criminal charges if they decide you're a repeat offender. Just like driving 80 in a 65, it's your call on whether it's worth the risk...

And yes greggy, your parts were fabulous... cloud9.gif

It all depends on your local Postmaster... I have sent several thousand book rate packages myself (back when they used to call it Special Standard) and then one day a new directive came down and the postnazis were everywhere. I have no trouble when I mail from Eugene, but when I mail from Salem, they have about 100 signs plastered all over the Post Office yelling at you about Media Mail and if you try to ship such a package they convene the Parliament of Trees to see if you are worthy. When I mailed a Media Mail package from Durango, Colorado this summer, they opened the package right in front of me to see if it was books (it was). While in San Antonio in July, I mailed a few from the airport post office at 1am and got no grief at all. About ten hours later I mailed one from the main post office on Perrin-Beitel and they were ready to frisk me at the door...

There are places in the country where you can drive 80 in a 65 every day for years and never get a ticket. That doesn't mean it can't happen...

Maybe if I add about 80lbs of muscle they'll give me less grief. I'm sure you walk in and all the female tellers go weak in the knees while their male counterparts start trying to brag about their cars to appear more manly... stooges.gif

'House,

Sorry to hear about your Durango experience! Maybe that postal worker transferred up to my town - I have one branch that gives me grief every single time I present a Media Mail package. So much so, that I don't even go there anymore. The other branches don't even bat an eye about MM. Go figure...

How many times do I have to tell you that it is due to your location ? 893frustrated.gif It may not be your fault that you live in a hotbed of West Coast drug traffic, from militia grown pot to crystal meth...or is it? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Can I help it if the underage girls that want to be in pornos also love crystal? It's out of my hands... confused-smiley-013.gif

Actually, after renting the DVD "Spun" last week, the idea of cooking up some meth is a lot more appealing... not...

Oddly enough it might be my stature that makes me so likeable or intimidating to new employees. All the old time clerks know I am a just a big jolly giant. I do admit knowing the local postmasters helps a lot. I know almost all of them including all the managers. They all like me........ grin.gif So that helps a lot. I hope it never happens that I get a package confiscated cuz whoever does it will have a team of post office employees going to bat for me. grin.gif I don't have that problem with car braggers all the guy clerks and the ladies are older anyway. stooges.gif and my truck would crush any car. thumbsup2.gif

Books in this lot include..

Here is some of the books you will receive. I just started with the first box and entered as I pulled them so what you see does not mean that is all you will receive of that title. It just means that's all that was in that box. These were not kept in any great order. I'm sorry but this is all I have time for. Thank you for looking.
