Ok, so all Comic Link final prices have an additional 3% fee not displayed in the total?

When did they start implementing the 3% fee.  From my understanding, they only charge 3 percent if you use a credit card to pay for your winnings but they put a limit on how much you can you use your credit card.  I don't use a credit card to pay for my winnings so I never pay the 3 percent.

Alas, even TMNT 1 was not immune to the horrid results that generally plagued that last comiclink auction.

-J.

As consignor of the 9.6 I don’t feel like it went for a horrid price.  Would I have liked it to get the all out insane Hulk 181 treatment? Sure, but that market seems primed for a correction.

I got  about double what I got it for 3 years ago... so no tears here.

As for it being 2 k below the last reported sale... who knows a bit of randomness or maybe the effect of so many people getting charged state sales tax now.

It doesn't surprise me at all knowing the fluctuations of books within this price range and this rarity. Next one could be 22K, who knows.

Granted.  But I was mostly being colloquial to characterise what was generally considered soft results across the board in that auction.

Congrats on your sale and profit margin.

100% agree, it was not an overall good auction for CLink  unless you were selling a strange tales 110 Cgc 9.4.

Lo and behold another 9.6 is coming to Heritage. This one is OW/W and starts on Feb. 1!  Cash in your 401K now and buy it! (just kidding of course, don't do that). Last on sold for $18.5K on 11/29/18.

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what I might be able to expect to get for my 9.2 Apparent (slight color touch on cover)?  I'm thinking about trying to sell this and upgrade to a Universal as tax season comes around... Very few Apparent sales figures on GPA though...

The 2 9.0 Apparents (2007 and 2012) have no other sales during those years but appear to be about half (or a little less) of the Universal for the years on either side.

The 9.4 Apparent (2012) also went for a little less than half of the Universal value that year.

With 9.2's going b/t about $8k and $11k over the last year, does $4k sound like a reasonable assumption?

Pretty sure I've posted these scans before, but here's a looksee:

The only way to make sure you are getting FMV is to put the book in auction. Otherwise, you are just guessing at a price.

The short answer is that there's not much data to go on and its been so long since what was there that I would err on the higher end of a listing price.  Auctions can be so hit or miss. Is it your observation that qualified lables tend to go for half the blue label value? From the GPA data I have as well as my observed sales there was only one purple label sale since 2005: CGC #1003475001 in 2011 for like you said, about half a blue label's price. If you have 2 other purple label sales, could you share them?

I have 6 sales of 9.2's in 2018, average price $9,258.

Thanks for the thoughts!  The lack of data is definitely frustrating, but yeah... it does look like a 50% discount is approximately what to expect... Guess I'll see what the tax fairy brings and go from there with the assumption I may be able to get 3-4 out of this one.

The sales I was looking at (am I reading GPA wrong?) were, in reverse chronological order:

9.0 (SP) February 26, 2012: $1,300 (same book as the previous sale)

9.0 (SP) December 16, 2011: $800

9.4 (SP) June 12, 2011: $1,623 (CGC Verification doesn't have a match for this number...??)

9.4 (SP) April 04, 2011: $1,700 (wondering if this is the same book as above...)

9.0 (SA) July 28, 2007: $760 (this is my purchase of the book above.. the most I'd ever spent on a comic at the time! The resub last year turned it in to 9.2 (C-1))

There's this kind of crazy flip of an 8.5 with much more restoration back in 2014... not bad for a week's worth of work!

Ok great thanks for this.

>9.0 (SP) February 26, 2012: $1,300 (same book as the previous sale)

>9.0 (SP) December 16, 2011: $800

This was a very nice flip. Didn't have this data. Thanks.

Not the same CGC#. Teh same on 4/4/11 was the one I referenced above, a Comic Connect sale for CGC# 1003475001. Link here: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=373482

Looks like you got your book for a song. Nice buy! And I wouldn't undersell what you have, btw. Prices have been trending higher for both 1st and 2nd prints since 2017. If I had your book I would price it at $4999 and go down from there until sold. GL!

Thanks for the info again!

I think that's what I'm leaning toward... May toss it up on the boards around $5k depending on taxes and blue label prices next month and see what happens... if it goes too low, I'll consign it somewhere with a couple of other TMNT's and cross my fingers :)

(and yeah, looking back I really got a great deal... I'm pretty sure my high bid was $800.01, and I remember waking up early to watch the end of the auction and nervously submit that last bid.  Good job 10-years-younger-Self!)

An update on this 9.6, Heritage has posted photos and we can see that this book (CGC # 1294822001) sold less than a year ago on 2/23/18 for $14,340, also on HA. It looks like someone is trying to flip from that price which is a bold move since HA takes a big piece of any sales price.

New 9.4 listing coming up for April bidding:

This may end up being a good move for the HA seller as I think they only take 10% on books you resell that you purchased from them.

Additionally they have this 9.6 listed as one of their featured auction items for the first time, previous 9.6s have been Saturday books.

Who knows but this may bring in some non comic savvy whales who wouldn’t normally bid on a book like this.

Just saw this, above $10K there is no commission on resale through HA.  That's a nice perk since they really stick it to you on the first sale.

  • Comics: 50% reduction in seller's commission for all items between $1K & $10K, and no seller's commission for items $10K and over.

Also, the 9.6 on HA is up to $9K with buyers premium.
