Right now it’s $42K ($50,400 w/ BP)

$55,200 now (includes BP), the previous record ($38,200) is shattered with 23 hours to go.  Without any more bids, it's already a very surprising result.

Wow!

So you are telling me at least two individuals want this book bad enough, to pay more than double what it’s been selling past few years?

Apparently, which is even more surprising when it's likely that both bidders know a second 9.8 is coming up on Heritage in November.

I respectfully disagree with your facepalm.

Been predicting this one basically all my life...TMNT was an American cultural phenomenon and it's popularity has endured despite the god awful Michael Bay movies.

The first print of #1 is a book that was organically rare, not manufactured to be rare like all the modern garbage you see nowadays.  3000 printed and how many survived?  Probably a lot of inflation by CPRs on the census too.  It's every bit as deserving of this kind of money as any GA book.  After all, all comics are inherently worthless, their value being 100% nostalgia driven, and enough people who grew up with TMNT are now coming of age, that have too much damn money, and are getting nostalgic.

Wow. Well, that's what happens when you have few 9.8's come up for auction at a site like Heritage for a year. Ebay has had several 9.8's listed since for far less but no bites. Heritage has the access and trust of wealthy buyers. Pair that with a rare comic and boom.

So by paying this premium markup, are these crazy bidders getting ripped off or just basically setting the new "floor" price point for 9.8's of this book for the future?

The premium is very clear and obvious. Price is what someone is willing to pay. In this case right now, someone is willing to pay $75,000. It doesn't matter the seller only would get $62.5K. He'll likely get even less with taxes and other costs already spent. So yes, the floor is whatever the final strike price is, including the BP.

Again book has been a $30K+/- book for 3 years - now $75K ($62K w/out BP) in matter of a day - it’s nuts

di-ck measuring contest between 2 yahoos

reminds me of the time when a Tec 44 8.5 went for 19K (!!!) on Heritage (internet bidding ended at around 4K) when even the Highest Graded Central Valley 9.4 is at 11.7K
