Looks awesome!!! I was not aware they did re-evaluations....I have some books that boggle my mind....both ways

A re-evaluation isn't terribly common...more of a courtesy service they provide on a case-by-case basis.  In this case the book was shown to a couple CGC employees at a show and they brought up the suggestion.  I think over the course of nearly 10 years of collecting slabs, this is only the second re-evaluation I've had.  In a lot of nice-looking 9.6's I've owned over the years, I can eventually find (or a friend can point out) a flaw that I missed.  It's typically something that's super subtle and only visible at certain angles.  In this case, I couldn't find anything wrong with it.

I'm quite happy with the result.  Fits perfectly in my collection and my sanity has been validated.  :insane:

OK guys, fellow turtlehead's, and the like, here it is. I waited for this for a very long time. Many many many special thanks to Dave (comics and ponies) for getting this done. I'm getting it framed as we speak. I wanted to wait, but can't. Here it is.  To say that Kevin knocked it out of the park is an understatement.  I am now the proud owner of this-----

Wow!! This is awesome!! Congratulations!!

I bought a Tales of the TMNT in Universal 9.8 years ago.  It looked like a solid 9.8 to me.  I had it signed by Steve and Peter a few months later and was shocked that it dropped to 9.6.  It still looked like a 9.8 to me.  So I cracked it and had Kevin sign it about a year later.  STILL came back a 9.6 despite looking perfect to my eyes.  I showed the slab to several friends to see if they could find a flaw keeping it out of 9.8.  None of them could.  Over 2 years after getting Kevin to sign it, I had it sent in for re-evaluation because in my mind, if this wasn't a 9.8, I must not know what a 9.8 looks like.

Looks like CGC came around on this during the re-evaluation.  SO PUMPED!!!

Very nice! Congrats!!

Thanks bro. I hope you've been well! I literally look at it every day and smile. That's what art should be! This is the first piece I've hung up in my room, and will probably be the only one. My wife was "kind" enough to let me hang it lol She rocks!

Funny thing, I show everyone who walks into my house. Most people knew my love for the toys,  but not for the art and books.  Of course, those who judge could kiss my arse. Kevin really left no stone unturned. The next time I see him I'm giving him a big hug!

Very nice Bebop George. Congrats. I like the purple.

If anyone has been wanting/waiting for some early Turtle books in (likely) high grades, I am finally letting my small collection go (details about the group can be found earlier in this thread).  I just finished boxing up the comics for the trip to CGC, and then on to ComicLink for a summer sale (date still up in the air).  I snapped this just prior to packing, darn nice looking group of books when they're all together.

Very cool  set of amazing books!  I'll be on the lookout for some of these this summer.  But if you want to sell that Gold prior to then, definitely hit me up.  :)  Make sure to post back here when these are scheduled to go up on ComicLink.

Also, curious what that light yellow book is in the lower right.  I don't recall seeing that posted before.

Sweet set! I believe thats a program from the con where they first advertised the Gold Turtlemanias.

As an aside, I remember when I had a group set similar to this. I'd gotten my Turtlemanias then shortly after the GGs. And I think within weeks, I'd started selling off. It was a great achievement for me but at the same time I thought well, though not super likely, I have a set that at most 9 other collectors could have. And for some reason just knowing that, it sort of lost its luster a bit for me. Coupled with at the time I'd started getting serious about OA, and beginning to understand that while others might have a similar collection as mines, with art collecting you can truly shape a unique collection thats only yours, that sort of finally pushed me over the edge and allowed me to break up the comics collection. I still have 90% of my raw books and don't see me selling them anytime soon, but I don't feel the pressure to "collect" them nearly as much. I will say I miss the Gold the most! But the art I got in its place more than makes up for it in my eyes. :)

Anybody have any recent sales reports on The Birds, The Bees, and the Turtles?

I don't have a copy of the book but after Stephan was kind enough to sell me most of the OA for the book, I've kept half an eye out but not seen anything further.

(For those not aware, in the late 80s/early 90s one of the TMNT staffers was retiring, and the tmnt crew drew a TMNT themed XXX comic for the occasion and printed up about 50 copies for the staff).

The only one I saw offered lately was about 6 months ago, listed at $10,000 (laughable).

If I remember correctly it was being shopped on both eBay and off as well.  The item is really weird to me as a Turtles collector.

I used to think so when I first heard it described, because you picture something done as "porn."   But, at least IMO, its really not that, its just humorous/ for ghits and shiggles.    Its not meant to get anyone "off" its just meant to make them laugh,  and the story seems to ask "OK forget what's in the comics, what are four single guys sitting around in a sewer likely to want to do in real life?"   And the answer is eat pizza, bone April, and watch porn :insane:    (Probably not that far off the mark).

Hi everyone.  I'm planning to create a variant cover for TMNT #73 (Aug. 2017) to celebrate TMNT, Vol. V (IDW) becoming the longest-running TMNT title ever!  This cover will be drawn by a Mirage-era artist and will be limited in quantity.  If this is something you'd be interested in, I've launched a 30-day Kickstarter campaign to get things rolling.  There are multiple tiers of backing options available (starting at $10 USD) and every tier includes at least one copy of this variant cover when released.  If you're a Turtles comic book collector / fan, a regular visitor to my website TMNT: A Collection (tmnt-ninjaturtles.com), or just interested in backing a cool project, head on over to Kickstarter and help me make it happen.  Your support is greatly appreciated.  Thank you!
